Super-Talent Pico USB drives: lose 'em even faster
Score, another "world's smallest" USB drive. Never seen one of those before. Super-Talent's latest Pico drives are mighty small though, and if one of you is somehow running the Tiny USB Hall of Records, it measures just 1.5 by .5 inches and holds 8GB in swivel, retractable, and waterproof versions. $35, should be out now.

Why would anyone need a USB drive that small?!
Mark @ Apr 8th 2008 10:31PM
whatever??
Anthony @ Apr 8th 2008 10:32PM
I have a really small one like this to keep on my keyring. It's big enough as it is so having a micromini Sony is nice. 8gb would be much better.
vdogg89 @ Apr 8th 2008 10:43PM
Lawl @ Mark.
and why wouldn't you need a flash drive that small? Just think of the cool-factor for the first hour that you haven't accidentally swallowed it yet!
Greg @ Apr 8th 2008 10:58PM
Yeah, I don't carry any of mine on my keychain because my pockets are packed enough. A really small one would be nice.
rektide @ Apr 8th 2008 11:35PM
Why would anyone need a flash drive any bigger?
Onetruebill @ Apr 9th 2008 1:15AM
BECAUSE... You will have to swallow it when the feds come for your kiddie porn
Tyguy @ Apr 9th 2008 8:34PM
I own a 2gb stick that's basically the same physical size and will be getting this. Why would you want one this small? Because, for me, its actually harder to lose. You see, I keep it in my wallet and I always have my wallet. Hence, I always have my thumb drive. My wallet has a flap for the driver license that folds down and covers the pocket that I put the thumb drive in, so when my wallet is in my pocket there is no way for the usb drive to fall out of it. And the thumb drive is so thin you can't tell its in the wallet. Normal sized thumb drives were always one more thing to keep in my pocket so I usually kept it in my bag. But I often find that I needed the drive for a chance IT support session in places where I don't carry my bag (seeing as that just goes with me to and from work and I often forget it for just that). Plus, I don't trust usb drives on key changes, etc so I like how something this small is protected by my wallet.
Kurian @ Apr 9th 2008 6:46AM
I'm sure I've seen a smaller black one somewhere. The part that sticks out of the computer is only like 4-5mm. Waay smaller that the above.
Russ @ Apr 9th 2008 11:48AM
Following tyguy's comment, I have the 8GB Sony Pocket Mini Bit (outside of Japan called Micro Vault I think) drive, which is about this size, and sure enough, I always keep it in my wallet. It's definitely more convenient for me than a keychain would be, as it basically takes up no room at all. I'm typing this post off a Portable Firefox installation right now, actually.
holycow @ Apr 8th 2008 10:29PM
How big is the Kingmax Super Stick ?
holycow @ Apr 8th 2008 10:31PM
nmind just found it:
"Product Dimensions: 1.3 x 0.5 x 0.1 inches"
So the Kingmax one is even smaller...
cluff @ Apr 8th 2008 10:47PM
no this one is smaller (if the picture is correct over engadget) it says its 31.3mm. if google conversion is right then its only 1.23 inches long, not 1.5.
rayw @ Apr 9th 2008 12:52AM
And besides, I think the Kingmax one is maxed (cough cough) at 4Gb. Certainly not King. This one says 8Gb.
geetarume @ Apr 8th 2008 10:38PM
maybe you could hack an ipod and stick one of these on the inside
telepheedian @ Apr 8th 2008 10:42PM
Ummm... no.
thelittleleaguecoach.com @ Apr 8th 2008 10:39PM
I would lose it.
Anonymoose @ Apr 9th 2008 12:08AM
i bet you're wondering when you could do the same with your virginity, eh?
bdawg @ Apr 10th 2008 2:17PM
@Anonymoose
Prick.
mushrooshi @ Apr 8th 2008 10:42PM
Lets keep them at this size please. No smaller.

looks like my eePC is getting an upgrade.
v3xx @ Apr 8th 2008 10:44PM
welcome to the world of yesterday's news, aka engadget. i already have the pico c (smallest form) in 4gb. 15 bucks on ebay.
rtlong @ Apr 9th 2008 1:03AM
Yeah, slick... this is the 8GB version.
rutsy5 @ Apr 8th 2008 11:06PM
Yay! Finally something to fit into my MBA!
Aguiluz @ Apr 9th 2008 12:43AM
Yeah, now you have no USB ports left.
(Except if you open it up.)
Jeff @ Apr 8th 2008 11:08PM
My A-data microSD reader (with card inserted) is smaller, actually.
That doesn't make it any less ridiculous though.
galla @ Apr 8th 2008 11:17PM
I wanna buy it but I cant find it anywhere. Can someone tell me where? (like maybe a whole address so that I can just copy and paste, then buy)
schmitty338 @ Apr 8th 2008 11:21PM
I bought the KingMax super stick 4GB for $17 from this place: http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=013194&cid=990.420
I also bought 2 of the 1GB versions for $7 each...they even come with a keychain springy-robe-thingy and a tiny silicon sleave...plus it has a lifetime warranty and it completely waterproof. I use it constantly...

I'm more interested in SuperTalent because they have the fastest drives available:

Woot for tactics
rektide @ Apr 9th 2008 12:41AM
For the record, no affiliation, just another whore for numbers. Besides who likes waiting for file transfers? Spent a while looking for fast ones, the only thing better I found than the SuperTalent is the OCZ Rally2 Tubo, but the SuperTalent was 40% the price.
Actually if was to shill for anyone, it would probably have to be http://xbitlabs.com . ;) Great reviews, very concise computer news.
Andrew @ Apr 8th 2008 11:41PM
World's smallest, my ass. I bought one of these on Amazon.com some time ago: http://www.amazon.com/DATA-MICRO-Reader-microSD%2BUSB-interface/dp/B000VE2PCG
It's awesome--smaller, and is a Micro SD card reader, to boot ($25 for 2GB, not too shabby). It is so small it barely protrudes from a USB port. There's no 8GB version, though, so I suppose this Pico drive has the edge there.
Juice Daddy @ Apr 8th 2008 11:42PM
the jump drive air™ ?

8 Gigs for thirty five dollars is not bad at all.
nxtiak @ Apr 8th 2008 11:59PM
Sony has one of these called the MicroVault. It's 31x15cm
Destro @ Apr 9th 2008 12:53AM
Yes, I have one of the 4GB versions.

31x15cm?! THAT'S FREAKIN' HUGE.
:-D I
scott @ Apr 9th 2008 12:03AM
It's not how small your USB drive is, it's how big the storage capacity is.
Tony Colonello @ Apr 9th 2008 12:54AM
I have several of the Kingmax Super Sticks.
It is fun going through security at the airport with them hidden in my socks and even in my mouth as they are waterproof.
This one might be small enough to hide in your nostril or other bodily opening of your choice.
Honestly I do keep several on a lanyard around my neck. I use dabs of my wifes nail polish to keep track of which is which. They are small enough that I almost don't notice them.
Michael L @ Apr 9th 2008 12:59AM
By the way, I wish cameras would just use an internal USB port that could take small USB flash drives like this one, instead of using SD/CF/MS/xD cards. It would make it easier to transfer images to your computer if your computer doesn't have a built-in card reader.
Michael L @ Apr 9th 2008 12:59AM
I have a Kingmax and it's awesome. Some ask why would you need a drive this small. I keep mine tucked in my wallet, and it's worked great. I had lost two bigger ones from my keychain when the connections broke.
sillyrabbit @ Apr 9th 2008 1:16AM
What is this? USB for ants?!?!? It should be at least...2 times as big.
jblock @ Apr 9th 2008 1:27AM
is this the pico C model?
Ubuntu 7.10 WindowsXP @ Apr 9th 2008 1:57AM
I actually think I have a friend with one that is smaller than this. So 8 GB of lies and slander. LIES AND SLANDER!
mstorman @ Apr 9th 2008 2:13AM
Im going to buy one. I modded my Dell 700M with an internal USB hub for a bluetooth dongle, but I still have a free slot. So ill just slide one of these in for internal storage.
eWiz sells them for about $30
