Yamaha bringing Tenori-on Stateside this month
If you have a hankering for making pretty pretty pictures with your music, Yamaha's finally going to fill that urge with a US launch of its Tenori-on music maker. The handheld device is sort of a Lite Brite for music, with 256 push-button LEDs for sequencing music and adjusting tones. The concept was first unveiled way back in 2005, but we're glad to see it come full circle and land in America. Yamaha will be hosting launch events in New York and San Francisco on April 16th and 18th, respectively.

and this will be how k-fed makes his stunning musical comeback.
Anonymoose @ Apr 8th 2008 4:21PM
uhh, not that he's gone anywhere. k-fed has always been in da heezy
*breathes sigh of relief as i avoid the inevitable backlash of the fiercely rabid and loyal k-fed fanbase*
i'm being serious about that last statement. his moms is crazy, yo.

that reminds me, the New Kids just announced their comeback. but no Marky Mark? oh yeah, i forgot he's getting departed italian (hand) jobs!
btw, i preferred Tenori-off. was more power efficient.
Mark @ Apr 8th 2008 4:38PM
whatever.
phanbouy @ Apr 8th 2008 4:53PM

gadjitfreek @ Apr 8th 2008 4:23PM
I want one of these. I am using this guy's Electroplankton software for the DS and it is wonderful.

Uh...didn't Edmund Scientific (don't know if they exist anymore) used to sell "light organs" et al to do this sort of thing?

Need to see pricing. Thing is like 630 pounds in the UK. That would make it about $1300 of our fake money. I'd pay $500.
Wwhat @ Apr 8th 2008 4:41PM
Yeah it's nicely made expensive so that it doesn't end up a kids toy or amateur gadget and you can play it as a 'musician' without looking silly.
But I'd say they pushed it perhaps a bit too far, $500 would work well enough.
adam dworak @ Apr 8th 2008 4:40PM
Too spensive, not enough features. I'll stick with my current midi controllers

My Micro Korg would love this.

open source ftw: monome.org
tb @ Apr 8th 2008 5:35PM
if they would use midi instead of the non compatible with pro host OSS something over rj45
kevin @ Apr 8th 2008 5:49PM
instead of the what?
their serial protocol is well documented and interfacing software goes to OSC and MIDI.
tb @ Apr 8th 2008 5:31PM
over 500$ would make it a no buy for me (and I want one since they showed in in 05, it was supposed to be cheap)
i'd take one with a 16 width by 8(or 16) matrix to really be able to program drums tr-style
a midi out would also be usefull
tb @ Apr 8th 2008 5:33PM
oups, I meant 32 not 16 (to have 1/32nd resolution to program measures taht are a bit less stiffy than 1/16th(hi hats))
erik @ Apr 8th 2008 7:06PM
How much pray-tell?
Axton @ Apr 8th 2008 8:46PM

Didn't Trent Reznor have something like this already in one of the YouTube videos when he was recording Ghosts I-IV? Seems pretty sweet though!
