Canon Rebel XSi shows up on Amazon with a ship date: April 27
We knew Canon's hot new Rebel XSi was due this month, but it looks like Amazon is once again to the rescue with a specific street date: April 27, which is a bit after the previously-rumored date of the 15th. That's what, just 5,000 pennies a day to get one by launch? Totally doable.
PS. -Don't forget, if you can't wait that long, we've got a hands-on gallery right here.
[Thanks, Dan]

This showed up like 3 months ago.
It was originally listed with a date of April 15th, which was probably a guess -- the 27th is new.
Wow, Engadget. You guys REALLY need to take some photography intro courses.
The pictures in that hands-on gallery are horrible.
The only good pics I've seen recently on Engadget were of the Dash Express.
Yeah, they used a Canon TX1 to take the pictures, no surprise there.
What in the hell does the camera they were using have to do with it?
The April 27th release date has been known for a while...
And you are basing this judgment of being crappy in low light on what?
There have been no solid reviews of the camera yet. If this thing is anything like the 40D, it would outperform the competition in low light.
Is that all you ever do is post negative comments?
It's a crappy camera and even crappier in low light.
Wow that looks really cool. I wonder how much it is.
Oh.
The camera is already available at Ritz Camera. for $899 with a free printer.
Its funny cause when you call canon they even say it doesn't ship till late this month.
I bet the printer is on a rebate. I'm still trying to get my rebate back off Apple, who now say it's out of date after 2 months trying to get it!!
been there for a month+
Had my order in for weeks.
The XSi has been available in Canada for about two weeks now. The camera store I work at has seen a slow but steady stream of cameras coming in over that time period (we are still filling orders, but almost caught up and should have regular store stock shortly).
I was originally eying the XSi big time. However with the several price drops on the 40D that can now be found online for around 1,050 or so the price difference makes the 40D tasty. If it would just drop another $100 there wouldn't be any doubt.
Amazon has had this "ship date" since about mid-February. Before that it was the 15th. This is not at all breaking news.
OMG, its the infamous Mark. Heard lots about you man. Keep up the good work
i'll pass. I'll take the 5D or the replacement for the 5D..
The Canon 3D.. any rumors on this???
Not to shabby at that price.
Ive already got a 35mm Canon, and if I could afford a D-SLR, this would definitely be near or at the top of my list. (cross compatible lenses, and I like the quality of my current Canon)
There is a report than Canon is losing market share on Digital SLR to Nikon. That is no surprise since the only hot product from Canon is Canon 40D last year. With Canon XSi, it is very interesting to see how Canon compete with Nikon. So far, all Nikon entry level DSLRs do not have live view LCD.
I work for Ritz Camera and two of them showed up for sale in my store on 4/8/08.
It's already in stores in Denmark. Nice camera, but LiveView sucks. It's just too big a compromise.
I already have one. Wolf Cam/Ritz already has some in stock, and B&H photo is shipping them out now.
Late
I just got a "in stock" notification from Circuit City. It shows available to order but not in any local stores.
I'd much prefer a Nikon D80 successor...
I work at Black's (Canadian Camera Store) and we've had the XSi for over a week, probably similar timing as Comics mentioned. I haven't had much hands on with it though, we've been getting lots of new cameras that were announced.
Hmmm, these are all over the internet, now. Circuit City, bhphoto, and others, as other people have stated. The XSi is the upgrade from the XTi. The 40D is a high-end line. This little camera has a LOT going for it. Can't wait to save up the money for it.
It's now June 15. Go look at Amazon.
