The USB Smart Cable: cheap and flexible, just like your prom date
We like small, we like convenient, and we love cheap. As such we're dripping our super-happy nerd juice all over this new $9.00 USB Smart Cable. The charging cable doubles as a microSD card reader (take that Plug It!) and is available in three versions supporting mini-USB, mini 18 pin, or Nokia DC 2.0 devices. Sassy.

Lol, you guys must have had great prom dates.
heyguy @ Apr 9th 2008 6:10AM
My prom date was small, convenient, and cheap.
LondonConsultant @ Apr 9th 2008 7:05AM
So, there are Essex girls in the US as well...
Leo @ Apr 9th 2008 8:38AM
I've gotta tell ya, my mum is an Essex girl - the stereotypes are founded on 100% truth. Bless her slutty heart.
ReggieXuk @ Apr 9th 2008 11:19AM

This Thomas guy should write for family guy. Hes an edgy bastard.

Hinhale @ Apr 9th 2008 6:13AM
Most of my nerd juice ended up on my keyboard after reading that post. Must stop drinking before breakfast.
DiscoCat5 @ Apr 9th 2008 6:25AM
haha you nerds and your juices.
DiscoCat5 @ Apr 9th 2008 6:25AM

DiscoCat5 @ Apr 9th 2008 6:27AM

Ondra Soukup @ Apr 9th 2008 6:26AM

Almost, this version adds microSD support. Plug it carries it now too but calls it the BeetleSD. I updated the post to be more clear.

Ah, Thomas!
Glad to see you still got to keep your job after yesterday's abortion debacle. Your titles are still the funniest...

just couldnt find the right words
John Stracke @ Apr 9th 2008 8:58AM
The "just like your prom date" was annoying, but the "nerd juice" was disgusting.
insertAlias @ Apr 9th 2008 11:57AM
Oh, grow a sense of humor, you wet blanket.
Chris @ Apr 9th 2008 8:58AM
god bless flexible electronics, and flexible slutty girls :)
Othello @ Apr 9th 2008 9:17AM
What? Nooo, I just bought 2 PlugIts last week, and these are even cheaper!
ScreamingSkull @ Apr 9th 2008 11:03AM
I'm in the same boat!
Simon @ Apr 9th 2008 9:21AM
Never mind the jokes and innuendo - I'm actually interested in the product!
Anyone know if this is truly USB2 (i.e. fate transfer speeds) and if they are available in the UK? I need a small USB cable like this for my 3G modem...
Wolfticket @ Apr 9th 2008 10:45PM
Ditto. (although I imagine it is 2.0, in this day and age)
Backlin @ Apr 9th 2008 9:48AM
Wait a minute! She may have been flexible, but my prom date definitely wasn't cheap!
That night cost me about $200.
jperry @ Apr 9th 2008 11:13AM
If that night only cost me $200...I would be ecstatic...
Now that I think of it...It would have been cheaper to just buy a hooker...
Depressing

OK, Thomas Ricker is officially my favourite Engadget blogger.
John @ Apr 9th 2008 10:21AM
So...the MicroSD card actually fits inside the USB plug? Is that how it works?
Justin @ Apr 9th 2008 10:47AM
Does anyone know if the mini 18 pin cable is compatible with the LG vx8500. My phone has 18 pins, but I don't know if the form factor is the same. Any Ideas?
Ana @ Apr 9th 2008 11:01AM
Glad to see misogyny is still considered valid doctrine among techies.
jsh4ft @ Apr 9th 2008 11:11AM
i would buy one if it was miniusb and nokia dc 2.0 together
doesn't seem like it would be that hard... guess i might buy one anyway
thezero4 @ Apr 9th 2008 12:41PM
Wow I was looking for something exactly like this, ordered I like how the Micro SD fits in the bottom half of the USB plug and gets jammed into the computer, I wonder if you can use the reader and sync the phone at the same time?
Sum Yung Guy @ Apr 9th 2008 1:49PM
Am I the only one who read this and thought "Nerds, with prom dates?"
BeyondtheTech @ Apr 9th 2008 2:18PM
What, no iPod connector? Blasphemy! (C'mon, you guys knew you were waiting for someone to mention that...)
Ian @ Apr 9th 2008 2:33PM
no, no we weren't.
Ian @ Apr 9th 2008 2:36PM
yea i have to say my prom date was not cheap either, what with the tux, the ticket, the limo, the dinner, and the flowers. must have cost me at LEST 250. Jperry was right it might have been just cheaper to buy a hooker to go.
