Wii's Virtual Console hacked on video
We'll be straight with you -- it's a bit of a mystery what exactly is going on here, but famed Wii hacker Waninkoko has apparently figured out a way to take Virtual Console titles and play them on another Wii. The good news? There's a video -- which many aren't hesitating to blast with "fake!" -- of the trick posted after the jump. The bad? There's no how-to in sight.

If you had actually read the articles you linked to or any of the other numerous BBC iPlayer articles on the web you'd realize it's just another streaming video player you'll be able to access via the Wii Opera Browser.
That means that:
A:) PS3 users will be able to take advantage of the iPlayer as well.
and B:) Wii owners who have not paid for the web browser channel or downloaded it when it was free are SOL, since the Wii does not come with the Opera browser natively.

Err, I'm glad there isn't a how-to, otherwise Nintendo would be patching these holes like crazy and it'd be a huge step back for Wii homebrew. Wii homebrew has been progressing amazingly in the past few days, it would be a shame for these holes to get plugged so that no one could run homebrew easily. Basically, this probably relies on the same bug that allowed Team Twiizers or whatever to make the homebrew launcher channel (which they still haven't released a final version of, just a 10 minute demo which I haven't tried) so if Nintendo fixes the bug in a future update it would force people to resort to using Twilight Princess each time to boot homebrew again, which would be a shame if the Homebrew Channel actually comes out sometime soon.

my first guess would be tis a hack in the gift option in the shop channel but could be deferent

samphex @ Apr 9th 2008 11:52PM
wouldn't it be easy for him to make a copy .iso on to his computer?
and then make it a torent?
and upload to btjunkie.org?
and let us download?
and let us burn ont dvd and stick it into the wii?
And play Mario?
Simple steps. Way simple. SO WHY HASNT HE DONE IT YET?
ihaveathumb @ Apr 10th 2008 12:06AM
Waninkoko has no intention of releasing this. If he did, just imagine how quickly nintendo would be up his ass. Waninkoko is well known in the wii homebrew community and has even had his picture posted at one time so nintendo would have no problem finding him. Other homebrewers are trying to hack the VC as well. We will all just have to wait until that happens. I repeat, Waninkoko has no intention of releasing this!!!!!
Kozzi @ Apr 10th 2008 8:21AM

@iofthestorm, Nintendo already has semi-fixed the homebrew channels (Trucha Signed). But until they release another update or channel the fix won't be implemented. But at least the twilight hack will never be fixed. Hopefully though, the community finds another way to fake channel signing; if not we're going to have to refrain from updating our Wii's ;P.
