Canon Rebel XSi release date pushed back?
After seeing that spy shot and the Amazon link with an April release date, it seemed like Canon's Rebel XSi was bound to drop any moment, but now that may not be the case. According to the latest info plastered up at the online-retailer, you won't be able to get your hands on the new DSLR until June 15th, which is basically a lifetime if you've been waiting on this. It could just be a minor mixup, but frankly we're not holding our breath.
Update: According to a number of commenters, this camera is available pretty widely right now. Apparently, Amazon is the only place on Earth where the release is being delayed. Sweet!
[Thanks, Kirill]

Sucks for those who are looking to buy... but to the rest of us, not so much.
gad get @ Apr 13th 2008 7:32PM
Very insightful. Way to state the obvious.
Mr.Tech @ Apr 14th 2008 2:53AM
That's odd because when I went to BestBuy it was already there. Heck I never took some pictures http://tiny.cc/canon01 and http://tiny.cc/canon02
Mr.Tech @ Apr 14th 2008 3:04AM
I meant to say even not "never"! I got no idea how that got there =D! O yeah sorry for the tiny url, I forgot that engadget upgraded their scripts. http://img367.imageshack.us/img367/4662/dsc06101oz6.jpg and http://img366.imageshack.us/img366/663/dsc06102ru9.jpg will direct link you to the pictures :)

"...you won't be able to get your hands on the new DSLR until June 15th..."
Unless you go to Circuit City, where they have at least a few in stock at each store.
Peter Sills @ Apr 13th 2008 7:13PM
They are out at Best Buy here. Sounds like traditional short-shipments which have already sold out.
hp540 @ Apr 13th 2008 7:13PM
5D MKII please
dark @ Apr 13th 2008 7:14PM

Dean Kollet @ Apr 13th 2008 7:20PM
+1 for seeing it @ Circuit City
gad get @ Apr 13th 2008 7:29PM
Just an Amazon thing, Engadget.
Wes Joyce @ Apr 13th 2008 7:36PM
Yeah i have seen people post pictures with their new XSi. Amazon is just screwing their customers over...call you local electronics stores to see if they have any in stock...
Warren @ Apr 13th 2008 7:38PM
I had one on pre-order from Amazon and got the e-mail about it being pushed back. I called around to a few Ritz Cameras and found one that had it in stock (said they got two yesterday and had sold one already). Just picked it up... awesome camera!
Gil Margolin @ Apr 13th 2008 8:39PM
is this the body only version?
Warren @ Apr 13th 2008 8:51PM
black body + kit lens... MSRP of $899.
Ignatius @ Apr 13th 2008 8:58PM
God, am I the only person to think it's stupid to spend nearly a THOUSAND DOLLARS on a camera?
Citrico @ Apr 13th 2008 9:50PM
Depends what you use it for. Just taking snap shots of your kid doing adorable things? Yeah, it's not worth it. But if you're planning on doing any serious photography, you're going to want a DSLR.
For some it'll be worthless, but I know I'll buy one.
Za @ Apr 14th 2008 2:04AM
Actually, this is to citirico -
In all seriousness, it depends on whether cherishing memories matters to you. Having taken pictures of my baby sister's tennis games, piano recitals, and so on, I can definitely justify having a nice camera+lenses.
I sold camera for a couple of years and *most* of the Rebel XT/XTi customers were looking to shoot photos of their kids. No one who seriously shoots goes for the XT/XTi/XSi - they would go straight for the EOSs.
Remember - a picture is a moment in time captured and SLRs just do a much better job of allowing you to catch it compared to point and shoots.
stefan @ Apr 14th 2008 2:48AM
@Citrico
1000 dollars aren't really what they used to be
dezmond @ Apr 13th 2008 7:43PM
Hi guys, this is Dezmond from Vancouver, BC Canada. Yesterday, I went to my local camera dealer and they were selling the Canon Rebel XSi. I even got a hands on test with the live view, 3 inch screen. I wonder why amazon has it delayed until june 15th hmm...
lakailb87 @ Apr 13th 2008 7:45PM
Thats wierd, i work at circuit city and i saw 2 in so far.. one was for a pickup. Our site says that were are now selling the black one but the silver isnt for sale yet
KevinS @ Apr 13th 2008 7:54PM
Hmmm... I just bought one at the local Wolf Camera store in Denver on Friday. They said that they have had them for a week.
cesium @ Apr 13th 2008 8:00PM
Amazon has been doing this lately.
They list the Nikon S600 as coming out in mid-May, although you can buy it in stores and online as of early March.
Michael Holcomb @ Apr 13th 2008 8:05PM
Bought mine already at CC on Friday night. I live in the Atlanta area.
Kobe_No_Means_No @ Apr 13th 2008 8:09PM
Inaccurate report. XSi is already available. Check leading photography sites such as Fred Miranda's or DPR for further info.
digitalsy @ Apr 13th 2008 8:43PM
I want a 40D or Nikon D300...
Za @ Apr 14th 2008 2:06AM
And I want a K20D or an A700? Really, how is that even constructive in the least?
Mitch @ Apr 13th 2008 8:59PM
Perfect day to release it, it's my birthday. Wish I could afford one :(
Shinigami @ Apr 13th 2008 9:27PM
Means its the worst day to release it :P
Mario @ Apr 13th 2008 9:00PM
We had 3 At my Best Buy this weekend, Sold them all Though.
Gil Margolin @ Apr 13th 2008 9:13PM
has anyone seen the canon xsi body only in black in stock?
Striker @ Apr 13th 2008 10:45PM
I'm sure it is around. Any Rebel DSLR is pretty sick in black (my dad has a Digital Rebel XT that he got for our Alaska cruise, and it is still sick).
kyle allen @ Apr 13th 2008 9:24PM
lol like anyones going camera shopping on tax day
scout @ Apr 13th 2008 9:26PM
I had an order at amazon for estimated delivery on April 29. I was "watching" local stores as well. Last friday (April 11) local Circuit City showed that they have it. Went there around 10am they had 2. One is mine now!!!
Canceled amazon order. The camera is sweet! Love it!
ilkhan @ Apr 13th 2008 9:45PM
anybody think if I send this in as a news item if engadget would quit printing stupidity?
http://img441.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img0589rx1.jpg
Jim @ Apr 13th 2008 9:45PM
I was able to man handle it at London Drugs on Saturday. Spent nearly an hour playing with it.
Too bad the tax return money will not be in for another few weeks.
casey @ Apr 13th 2008 10:00PM
The Best Buy I work at had a few in stock earlier this week but sold out pretty quickly. I checked inventories at nearby stores for a customer earlier today and there were about four other locations with at least 2 in stock. I'm sure Amazon just made a mix up since the SLR is pretty widely available.
Blademan @ Apr 13th 2008 10:06PM
Based on this Engadget link last Friday:
http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/11/canons-rebel-xsi-turns-up-in-retail-spy-shot/
I went to my nearest Circuit City and bought one on April 11.
Very nice, btw. Sharp shots, and fast focus.
nfuentes86 @ Apr 13th 2008 10:25PM
I work in a high end electronics store and we got this guy in 2 days ago. But it sold out in less than an hour. It may have been released but it's probably hard for most to get due to the demand. I never even got to play with it, that f*cking sucked.
Jumpingmanjim @ Apr 13th 2008 10:29PM
Forgive my ignorance, but what exactly makes this camera a "rebel"?
Striker @ Apr 13th 2008 10:46PM
Your mom makes this camera a rebel.
Aziel @ Apr 14th 2008 1:39AM
It's Rebel because Americans wouldn't buy a camera called "Kiss" (what the Japanese market calls it).
Aaron @ Apr 13th 2008 10:44PM
that's my birthday!(: ... i know, that was way off-topic, but i just had to say it.
PG @ Apr 13th 2008 11:06PM
Got mine today at CC...in Compton and BB in Torrance had them as well. Used CC for the % discount.
farfisa @ Apr 13th 2008 11:15PM
Maybe it's just the silver one. You know, like all the mint green or panty-hose-coloured PSP's are sold out, but you can still get a PSP.
kageneko @ Apr 14th 2008 12:24AM
I literally have one sitting in front of me right now. I bought it yesterday. I posted brand new photos from it today.
Sucks to be Amazon, apparently.
onin @ Apr 14th 2008 12:26AM
Blacks photography store here in Canada has it already. its like $900 something with the lens kit.
jim ayson @ Apr 14th 2008 12:27AM
I don't get it. That model is known internationally as the Canon EOS 450D and has been on sale for weeks now. The Philippine suggested retail price is about PHP 37,000 which is about $889.
Musouka @ Apr 14th 2008 4:04AM
This always happen with SLR cameras... the first shipment(s) simply got sold out (pre-orders) so those who were lazy and did not pre-order have to wait. I remember that Nikon D300 had a December 15th release date on Amazon because of that.
Alex Moyler @ Apr 14th 2008 6:19AM
I've held one, it's not that exciting. Waay too costly as well. Unless you want something small I'd say get the 40D with the 17-85is kit which isn't that more expensive and essentially gives you a brilliant lens with it for free.
Musouka @ Apr 14th 2008 6:32AM
Hmm, the 40D comes with the 28-135 and sells for almost $1310 on Amazon. A 40D body ($1089) and the 17-85 ($414) will cost you $1503... the bundles are even more expensive so that is at least a $600 difference.
