LG's touchscreen T80 media player only has 4GB
LG's giving our Danish friends a little something to look forward to: the 3-inch 400 x 240 touchscreen T80, which has 4GB of storage, DVB-T and FM tuners, and OGG support (as well as the usual MP3, WMA, MPEG-4, etc.) in a chubby 0.5-inch thick package. We hear it's priced at a hefty €299 (~$470 US), which might prove a tad prohibitive to sales among the intelligent.

Is this a joke? For that price you can get a 32gb iPod Touch... minus WMA and FM tuner of course- but does anyone seriously use those even?
Tony @ Apr 13th 2008 2:54AM
Yes, the FM tuner is especially useful when I hear a song on the radio and want to know more about it (some MP3 players will let you know the song name and artist) and having greater compatibility is never a bad thing.
Still, this doesn't look like something I'd want to buy.
Erik @ Apr 13th 2008 3:03AM
Also minus the DVB Tuner...and OGG Support...
nak @ Apr 13th 2008 3:52AM
32GB iPod Touch is €469, the 8GB is €289 (in France where the €299 price of the T80 was reported). At €10 more for half the storage it seems pricey, but if you're getting content OTA it really isn't that bad.
nak @ Apr 13th 2008 3:56AM
I guess it'd be better to get the price in the Netherlands, which is €10 less than France. Therefore the T80 is €20 more, but still, if you get content over the air, something not possible for free on the iPod Touch, storage is less of an issue.
JohnTitor @ Apr 13th 2008 4:00AM
"but if you're getting content OTA it really isn't that bad"
umm you do realize that there are much cheaper non-touchscreen PMPs that probably do a much better job at everything
d840 @ Apr 13th 2008 4:04PM
EVERYTHING....MUST..... HAVE.... TOUCHSCREEN!
That's just the way things are headed, and it's about time....
Skater5Hater @ Apr 13th 2008 2:46AM
Looks sweet, Danes get all the luck. LOL..guess I can throw my LG viewty away, and get ready for the T-80!!!!! I want this phone.
Michael LaFramboise @ Apr 13th 2008 2:49AM

Michael, I have to say, your avatar scares the living crap out of me.

I was wondering why you said that. Then I realized this is the same person whom I blocked their avatar too.

All the replies above mine, I've seen them all before somewhere. Shockingly accurate Deja Vu.

throw in 60 more GB's of SS awesomeness, and I'm down.

Come on LG you can do better than this. The iPhone is coming up to a year ago release and this is all we get? Up the storage and add Wifi, damn it. I'm sure the style and functionality wont be there either. My Verizon plan ends in July and I just want a phone like the iPhone. :( Hell, just give me a nice big screen and wifi. I'll be set.
cesium @ Apr 13th 2008 3:21AM
for the last time, it's not a phone!
Jaws @ Apr 13th 2008 3:26AM
anything that even resembles a touchscreen product now a days gets taken for a phone (or iPhone) product...
remember all those N810 release statements followed by comments asking which carrier would hook up with that phone...
people just can't read.... I guess the literate people in the world have to turn a blind eye. ;)
Rex @ Apr 13th 2008 3:34AM
Sounds like Ryan Block has something against LG. I would assume that that price point is far fetched. LG would be smart enough to price the T80 at Samsung's YP-P2's price point. But with the DVB-T, that's pretty good for an mp3 player.
Hany Hanna @ Apr 13th 2008 4:03AM
well put engadget.....I can't fathom intelligent people spending this much on 4 gigs....apart from Cowon, Korean companies just don't get it. Give me 60, 80, 120 even 160 gigs on an HD and I'll buy 1.
BChau @ Apr 13th 2008 5:09AM
Wow! Free to air mobile TV (DVB-T) included. In an all-in-one package. I'm sold.
Morten @ Apr 13th 2008 5:17AM
To get the facts right, in Denmark an 32gbyte ipod touch is 3549 Dkr, or acording to google 755.22 USD. The price in stores is actually 2499 Dkr or 531.8 usd. But it is none the less 70% of the ipod touch.
The thing I don't understand however is why they are basing it on dvb-t, as dvb-h is already in the process of being rolled out. But I guess first to market is important, and maybe the content will be different?
Ihar `Philips` Filipau @ Apr 13th 2008 6:07AM
Hey Engadget, stop playing stupid. As if you do not know how to properly convert Yuropan prices into US ones: drop € on the end and prepend $ in the front.
Tony @ Apr 13th 2008 8:15PM
You remind me of my brother—when he was six.
Yuri @ Apr 13th 2008 11:42AM
I'm still liking my YP-P2, which after owning a touch and the P2, the P2 is by far my favorite.
I guess this price is because of the OTA support, but I'd still much rather see the price drop a bit on this. LG has always been a bit steep in price though, oh well.
JJ @ Apr 13th 2008 12:29PM
When the iPhone was released, I never imagined that a year later every phone maker would make a buttonless finger touchscreen phone.
As an Apple fanboy, you wonder if it would happen, but every week on Engadget, a new iClone steps into the ring.
Shinigami @ Apr 13th 2008 1:03PM
Guys just wait for iPhone 3G with a better camera and other improvements. Possibly this year. Possibly...never.
Oh and the "phone-wishing" audience should read the title.
"LG's touchscreen T80 ****media player****...", not *phone*
YoMomma @ Apr 13th 2008 1:07PM
Wow that's an ipod touch ripoff seriously!!!!!!!!
and with all that money i can get myself a PS3 or Xbox 360 (not the wii cuz it ain't available here.
Rowdehaj @ Apr 13th 2008 6:35PM
LG sure is clinging to that 'Viewty' look...
inspector neck @ Apr 14th 2008 12:05AM
you guys are all silly willies. not only is it a phone, it's a whole lot more. and it's pointless. we're just spinning around in space with nothing to do apparently. think about what you would do without all of your electronic distractions. now go do those things.
