We're not sure who nodded off in the art department, but we're fairly certain they're going to be wide awake come Monday morning. Apparently,
Radio Shack is running circulars this week featuring the
iPod touch... with the Installer and MobileChat icons. We're sure Apple will be stoked to discover that a jailbroken iPod is hanging out in one of America's most-viewed ads, and we're equally sure that buyers will be pleased to learn they don't really get an IM application with their purchase. Champagne for everyone!
Update: Take a look at a screen grab from the circular after the break.
[Thanks, Matt & Oscar M]

Lol

(This is a bit better than yelling "FIRST!")
-back on topic-
Maybe the picture is there intentionally as deceptive ads. Besides, after Circuit City botched a car in an attempt to install a GPS, of course they use the ever-so-reliable Google Images rather than to take pics of their products. Darn corner cutting jerks!
Juice Daddy @ Apr 13th 2008 3:17PM
hilarious!
deyanimay @ Apr 13th 2008 3:23PM
I was so tempted to say first, jk. Hey maybe we can sue them for false advertising when we go to the store and find out that the ipods are not really jailbroken.
Matthew @ Apr 13th 2008 4:28PM
I'm not sure who nodded off in the art department at Engadget but scanning a circular makes a much cleaner image than taking a picture. ;-)
James @ Apr 13th 2008 4:41PM
Shows you how much Apple are idiots and don't make the phone unlocked in the first place, even their ads are jail broken.
RikF @ Apr 13th 2008 5:21PM
You know it isn't a phone, right?
NoAndThen @ Apr 13th 2008 5:21PM
@James:
Dude, read the post. Reasons you're an fanboidiot:
1.) It's an iPod Touch, not an iPhone.
2.) This has absolutely nothing to do with the iPhone being unlocked or not, regardless of the fact it should be, but blah blah blah
3.) You clearly have no idea what it means to jailbreak, much less the difference between that and being locked to a cellular carrier.
Read, then think, THEN speak... not the reverse.
mymaclife @ Apr 13th 2008 6:33PM
The ad says 'Authorised Ipod Reseller' for how much longer?
CUBSWILLWIN @ Apr 13th 2008 6:51PM
same thing in my chicago circuit city ads. Seems like they can't wait till June
chezzo @ Apr 14th 2008 5:43AM
I'm pretty sure when you scan something in you can't really call it a "screengrab"

Indeed.
Why people would even bother with a product from a company as controlling as the SS I may never know.
computer.dude.28 @ Apr 13th 2008 7:47PM
I hope this means they're Pre-Jailbroken!!
Chris @ Apr 13th 2008 3:11PM
I am pretty sure this is firmware v2, not a jail broken iphone
Matt @ Apr 13th 2008 3:16PM
Installer is there. It's jailbroken.
Ray @ Apr 13th 2008 4:19PM
I am pretty sure your an idiot
Seth @ Apr 13th 2008 4:20PM
Yep, it's firmware 2.0 with an Installer.app on there. Yup, and Steve Jobs has hair. So true indeed.
peter @ Apr 13th 2008 4:54PM
Ray @ Apr 13th 2008 4:19PM:
I am pretty sure your an idiot
Not that I don't agree with your (note correct usage) sentiment but come on. When accusing someone of being an idiot, don't be one yourself. You're. YOU'RE. You are. You're = you are. Get it? Seems to be contagious as others can't get a handle on it in more recent comments too.
Tony @ Apr 13th 2008 5:46PM
uh oh! Grammar police!
Ray @ Apr 13th 2008 6:06PM
i got pwned
mymaclife @ Apr 13th 2008 6:30PM
As it's a pro-noun I think 'police' should be 'Police'. ;)
DreadConches @ Apr 13th 2008 7:38PM
Don't shorten proper noun to pro-noun. A pronoun is completely and utterly different than a proper noun.
hypereric @ Apr 13th 2008 8:27PM
"completely and utterly" are synonyms; therefore, your comment contains a redundancy. I will deduct one point from your ranking.
Chase M. @ Apr 13th 2008 9:26PM
You should've capitalized the first letter of your sentence.
Deathalo @ Apr 13th 2008 10:45PM
Jesus Christ, I'm pretty sure that this is the most intellectual reply string ever posted on Engadget.
Jon Kit @ Apr 13th 2008 11:06PM
I'm only replying to this because I feel that if I'm part of this thread that my grammar and overall IQ has increased.
Jon Kit @ Apr 13th 2008 11:08PM
...and of course by "has increased" I mean "will increase"...
Mr. Jeff @ Apr 14th 2008 1:05AM
Though technically correct, Chase, I would avoid using the contraction "should've," especially when speaking. It gives off the impression that you are saying "should of", which is quite obviously incorrect. When used in writing, it gives off the impression of being slang, even though it is acceptable grammar.
greeneyes @ Apr 14th 2008 5:40PM
I'm glad that other people get so intense with proper grammar usage. And apostrophe placement :)
The chain of grammar comments amuses me.
mymaclife @ Apr 14th 2008 2:19PM
@ DreadConches @ Apr 13th 2008 7:38PM
Don't shorten proper noun to pro-noun. A pronoun is completely and utterly different than a proper noun.
If you wish to be pedantic, then your whole sentence modality is flawed, it should read 'One should not shorten proper noun to pro-noun'.
hypereric @ Apr 14th 2008 8:58AM
"it should read 'One should not shorten proper noun to pro-noun'."
I proffer that --- for the sake of clarity --- your attempt at correcting his grammar is not clear enough for educational purposes. Since it is proper grammar that we are seeking, the implicit recognition that clarity is derived from proper grammar is simply not a facet we can spare to overlook.
Therefore, may I humbly suggest the following revision?
'One should not shorten the [term] ["]proper noun["] to pro-noun'.
Or perhaps the following would invoke the clarity necessary for this discussion: 'One should not shorten the [term] ["]proper noun["] to the [term] ["]pro-noun["]'.
hypereric @ Apr 14th 2008 9:14AM
@Chase M:
I do realize that you are correct ...if it had been my quote. As it was not not my quote, I merely left the capitalization and grammar intact so as not to offend the original author. A form of literary device.
I probably should have prefaced the quote with, "The phrase 'completely and utterly' ..."
However, I will admit that I was being grammatically lazy, as were you with "should've". Therefore, I am marking both of our comments with a negative one.

I vote to stamp out and eradicate superfluous redundancy.
Oskin @ Apr 14th 2008 2:38PM
What's with all the fuzz here? Maybe his first language isn't english (i.e. mine is french)... Altought I do believe it would be a lot better if we would make an effort when we post something, just saying...
hypereric @ Apr 14th 2008 3:36PM
@Oskin: This thread is the logical outcome of Ray posting, "I am pretty sure your [sic] an idiot".
One must exercise due diligence in his choice of words and grammar if one intends to use the word "idiot" to describe another poster.
As an aside: his proper usage of "an" instead of "a", along with the proper sentence structure, would suggest he is capable of using the correct grammar for "you're".
Besides, nearly everyone here has an elevated sense of self-worth; hence, they want to prove their intellectual prowess by berating others for their grammar. This thread has given such ones the ability to do this in a safe, controlled enviroment.
Plus, its' fricking fun !!!

you mean to say, I found this mine radioshack paper to[o].

None of the Circuit City circulars in California have the jailbroken touch picture, just the regular one. Hmmm...
Ollie @ Apr 13th 2008 3:16PM
Too funny. Just checked the RadioShack website and sure enough the picture is there on the weekly ad.
