Metal Gear Solid 4 gets its own Bluetooth headset
First the console, now a Bluetooth headset -- what's next, Metal Gear Solid 4-branded bed linens? All kidding aside, the MGS4 headset that had been making the rounds of late is apparently very real. Slated to arrive on June 12th alongside the highly-anticipated title itself, the $59.99 unit will offer up 8-hours of talk time (160-hours in standby) and will function just fine with any other PS3 games that support online voice communication. Yeah, you can also pair this with your cellphone and use it in public, but we can't say we'd recommend all that.[Via PS3Fanboy]

Bed linens would be cool!
Esat Dedezade @ Apr 14th 2008 3:57PM
I suppose it's the closest you could ever get to sleeping with snake.
farfisa @ Apr 14th 2008 4:11PM
Or Under-roos.
Esat Dedezade @ Apr 14th 2008 4:21PM
And thats the closest you'd get to getting a *CENSORED* from Snake.
What? I mean't comfortable nether region support. What did you think I meant?

First of all, the PS3 comes equipt to connect to most bluetooth headsets.
I already have a Jabra BT800 (with built in caller ID) so I doubt I'd spend $60 on this one, even when it looks cool.
WARHAWK comes with a Jabra BT125 which is probably one of the best BT headsets I've ever used so if you buy both games, you'd be getting 2 games with a headset free.
This is cool - but, $60? that's a rip.

"...Yeah, you can also pair this with your cellphone and use it in public, but we can't say we'd recommend all that."
Why not? I would.
StrangeBum @ Apr 14th 2008 6:32PM
Hell yeah! Me too. Especially considering one of my ringtones is the Codec ringer from the games...it would just be too perfect.
ErikLindemann @ Apr 14th 2008 8:35PM
I gotta say, I couldn't agree with you more. Looks like I'll end up going out and getting a bluetooth headset. I think those things look rediculous, but it's Metal Gear; I have to get it.
TeddyLikesComputahs! @ Apr 14th 2008 3:54PM
i wish this came with the new Octo-Camo feature so i can wear it outside and people would now really think i'm sschizophrenic!
gabe @ Apr 14th 2008 3:56PM

Raiden @ Apr 14th 2008 4:21PM
errr.. it could go on the xbox360 too you know.. your point?
Eric M. @ Apr 14th 2008 4:42PM
Well plenty of people take their iPhones/iPods with them on the go, and most of them would hardly be considered "fanboys".
For example, me and my jailbroken/unlocked iPhone.. =D
Mark.Nine @ Apr 14th 2008 5:11PM
You don't deserve that Radiohead avatar.
gabe @ Apr 14th 2008 8:33PM
no sony fanboys were hurt during the making of this post :)
KangMin @ Apr 14th 2008 3:58PM

Erik @ Apr 14th 2008 5:17PM
The first result on a google image search for "Snake Wallbanger" is some sort of cake. Is that what he is having made?
MMalecky @ Apr 14th 2008 10:33PM
And now, the first google result for "snake wallbanger" is your comment on this blog post.
Bravo.
dizzy @ Apr 14th 2008 3:58PM
Obviously, the next thing will be Metal Gear Solid 4: The Flamethrower, which kids will love.
Boynamedsue @ Apr 14th 2008 4:04PM
"but we can't say we'd recommend all that."
it doesn't look any more or less douchey than any other bluetooth headset.
Jeff @ Apr 14th 2008 4:08PM
Looks kinda silly with the "Metal Gear Solid 4" logo on the side. Besides that, looks great to me.
vannyx @ Apr 14th 2008 4:09PM
sweet now will have the headset to match my codec ringtone.
"snake....Snake....SNAKE"
Mike @ Apr 14th 2008 4:11PM

Striker @ Apr 14th 2008 8:07PM
I see what you did there, you know that no one will even chuckle at your joke, so you had to laugh at it yourself. Classic.
NineT9 @ Apr 14th 2008 4:16PM

NineT9 @ Apr 14th 2008 4:17PM

Dragod @ Apr 14th 2008 4:50PM
Looks cheap... I mean "Affordable".
Michael @ Apr 14th 2008 6:29PM
so says the guy with the Halo avatar :P
not to start a flamewar but wasnt the halo3 headset listed $59.99 too? and it wasnt even bluetooth!
Striker @ Apr 14th 2008 8:10PM
It does look kind of cheap and definitely ugly.
Dragod @ Apr 14th 2008 11:34PM
Naw, I have no problem with MGS4, but I'm serious... it looks like a Cereal box prize. Kellogg's was giving away little flash lights that looked just like it, except with Purple on what would be what wraps around the ear.
Deathalo @ Apr 14th 2008 6:37PM
Engadget, why did you use that picture. There are three pictures of the rendered headset. The first is the skeletal headset without all the metal gear added to it, the second is the basic metal gear skin, and the third picture is the final product render which is much nicer looking and detailed in design. The photo render you have shown is the second render, not the final product design.
Lu!s @ Apr 14th 2008 7:18PM
It's kind of ugly. ;/
linoge @ Apr 14th 2008 9:07PM
i don't know if i would use this
but if they made a Solid Eye type thing
whit maybe a heads up display
i would get that and use it every where
Mike @ Apr 14th 2008 9:23PM
"Bed linens would be cool!"
You must really like sleeping alone.
duckpoops @ Apr 14th 2008 9:23PM
As far as I know this is the first headset that doubles as a bottle opener. Pretty sweet
J @ Apr 14th 2008 11:03PM
I always misplace my bottle opener (and/or my keys for that manner). An extra bottle opener is a plus! I can find 24 reasons to own this headset and I'll probably be a hero of some unfortunate non-open-by-dancing-bottle drinking buddies.
