RED unveils Scarlet mini camcorder

RED just unleashed its promised Scarlet "pocket professional" camera at NAB 2008, and it's certainly a sight to see. The teensy 3K resolution camcorder is based on a 2 / 3-inch Mysterium X sensor, can shoot at 1 to 120 FPS and records to dual CompactFlash cards, which can handle up to 100MB per second of REDCODE RAW HD video. You can preview your shot on the 4.8-inch LCD, and there's a 8x RED zoom lens included. HMDI, HD-SDI, FireWire 800 and USB 2.0 inputs are built in, and the device is compatible with "many" RED ONE accessories. WiFi control is also included. In typical RED fashion, the only promises about the final product is that "specifications, delivery dates and design are subject to change... count on it," but this is certainly a good start. No pre-orders are being accepted at this time, but the price is purportedly to going to be a bit under $3,000, and the release is slated for early 2009.

Edge man see its 3k...u shoot 3k raw....and downscale it to 2k prospective for edit...and when u broadcast it on normal tv its again downsized to 750 man.... so imagine how much noise would have gone by then out of your picture.....the more the pixels get closer and contracted the better the picture looks..... and seriously with 2K u can put tht on theatres.
the post production these days is so high flying guys....that it can make even DigiBeta look amazing only the very pros can tell yeah its DigiBeta.... so imagine Cameras like Red, Scarlet could kill it...i say u're talking abt 16mm man it will overcome 35.... if the image gives you photographic feell....wht else u need....cuz thts the thing with 35mm photo graphic output rite...so i just wish to see ths camera and use it before i die....its worth giving it a short rather thn investing around 200K for sony CIne HD camera... so 3k its quite affordable for serious spenders on equipment and u can get a pretty decent idea just buy shooting with the stock specs of ths camera...if results shut your moth ipen thn its more worth spending on its assecories and get a kick as edit suite...

Awesome. But 2xCF? You won't be shooting for very long with that at the highest setting... though you couldn't with film either, AFAIK. And I think a bigger sensor with lower resolution (or the same, of course) would be cooler.

I am equally excited about this camera, for its price it would not be much of an overstatement to say that it will destroy the bridge between the quality footage indie film-makers may be able to access and that of the Hollywood Directors. Of course its how the camera is used but still.....if you have big ideas then cameras like this can really help.

To put a damper on things, it seems the company red sells the bare minimum (ie Camera body, cables and case etc.) so we may be "forced" to buy the accessories.

Does anyone know which accessories do NOT come with the camera? Or does nobody know until RED releases the camera?

I was almost going to buy a Cannon XL2 the other day...I decided not too because I know I will regret it when the scarlet comes out. So if you can hold-on guys just wait till this slick machine comes out and then make a decision.

Man i can't wait for 35mms to be in the store just like we put our Analoge Audio Recording machines.... i so want ths camera don't even need to demo it....if not like 35 or 16 if its giving me better resolution thn HD or Digi Beta..... then styll its worth buying even at 5000$.....even if its a bit lesser then HDs thn styll its worth buying it....cuz look at GOD DAMN PRICEEEEEE...... Its incredible... i thought that they would unleash this little beat on 2010.
this is defenetly a breakthrough to the industry and especially in-filmakers like miself. i have a sony camcorder cause that was what i could afford.
defenetly iam having one of those.
the audio could mean another 2 gees.
