Super Genintari project is finished and ready to make you envious
DIY game consoles are hardly the rare occurrence they once were, but this so-called Super Genintari project (previously known as Leviticus) is definitely a step above most, and more than enough to make us a little green with envy. As you may be able to discern from the project's name, this behemoth of a console brings the Atari 2600, NES, SNES and Genesis together at long last, with each system available at the push of a clickety-clackety button and ample controller ports provided for each. What's more, while there's quite the mess coming out of the front of the console with all the controllers attached, the rig does at least neatly connect to a TV with a single AV cable. Be sure to head on over past the break to check out a video of it action, and hit up the link below for the fully story and plenty of pictures.

Sweet.
I must have one, it is seriously the most beautiful electronic ever built.
Aesthetically: not so great.
Winthetically: maximum points.
Insert something whitty
*crosses out whitty*
Now you're just left asking people to "insert something," and that, my friend, is just not classy.
Here's something 'Whitty.'
First, it's spelled 'witty,'
second, please be relevant to the topic...
Donald cries due to your irrelevant 'Insert Something Whitty' comment
That is all.
"second, please be relevant to the topic..."
Damn, that's like the opposite to every single one of my comments on this site, which the regular readers would have well noticed by now....

Leave Minotaur alone!!
So is this like a one-of-a-kind thing like everything ben heck throws out or are people actually able to get their hands on one?
I love everything these people make. So awesome. Sad that it's impossible to acquire these things.
Wow someone figured out how to put a bunch of circuit boards into one box and add a $29 video switcher as the system selector and power bridge.
lame.
there is nothing amazing or cool about this. It looks cheap and is an easy weekend kids project.
Thanks for that Captain Negative. Now off you go to your downer convention with Corporal Cynical and Sergeant Sarcasm.
Sound like it will be a blast!
C'mon, Esat, I liked the alliteration you were going with. Now let's stop being lazy and redo "Captain Negative."
*impatiently waits*
--------------
Esat, I'm just kidding, of course....I'm not patient.
FUCK YOU! you cant even make anything better than a new way to waste your time making that name of yours!
Umm, how about Negative Ninja?
i'm for 'Debbie Downer' or 'Negative Nancy'
The worst part is that the whole "negativity convention" would probably just fall apart.
The person heading the convention would assume that the place was booked. The people going to the convention would assume that it was going to rain and that traffic would probably be horrible.
Plus, if they all did get together, all that negative energy might rip a hole in the fabric of the universe.
"Crap, Phil, we're being sucked into a black hole."
"I bet it's just as bad in there as it is out here."
I was so ready to hate on this beast but I just can't do it. Play on Playas...
Now someone needs to spend about 3000 to build a WiiStation 360...
i'd buy it
Now that is something I'd buy for my mother knowing she will never play it. Subsequently keeping it for myself.
You're mom is lame too
OH NO HE DIDN'T
I know people use the wrong your all the time but this is the first time I've seen you're when it should be your...
oh no my ARE mom isnt!
what, no Sega Master System?
I'd take one of these things over a wii any day of the week! I never liked virtual console anyways! =0
Emulation is not perfect.
Well thanks for your comments, but its still lame and a complete waste of time. I'm glad my 8 year old didn't waste his time making this. Engadget should tell little kids to keep there lame projects to themselves.
Wow your so lame you're almost cool...
.... almost.
Engadget should tell douches like you--
oh wait, Engadget doesn't have to do anything. You're the one who came here...
I think your 8 year old is calling out for some attention.
I would love to see this black or white, maybe gray, not digging the semi-translucent. Other than that its heaps of awesome.
This is cool. I tell you what I miss more than anything is my super nintendo. I broke out the old psx the other day but its just not as cool as my old snes, I miss that thing.
Now all we need to do is give it to Ben Heck so he can make a Super Genintari Laptop out of it.
pictured: a real argument for console emulation
Totally agree. The idea is cool, but the result is just plain ugly.
I have to say this console is with out a doubt one of the coolest creations I've ever seen.
But super-awesomeness aside. Let's look at the gamer's selection of carts.
Genesis>Earth Worm Jim=Awesome
NES>MegaMan 4=Awesome
2600>Pitfall???(Not Sure, Cart Blocked in Pic)=Awesome
SNES>Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island= Not so much.
If that was the best SNES game I had, I probably would have just left that system out of this SuperRad console.
I have never liked the Mario games either, but remember two of the greatest console games ever were made for the SNES: Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy III.
Speaking of which, I still have not beat those two games yet. Just don't have time.
Shining force for Genesis, FTW!
Ugh, I can't find my Genesis anywhere.
Dolemite, I agree Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy III are truly magnificent games. I'd go far as to say that they are probably two of the greatest games ever made (primarily from a story stand point).
I haven't played Shining Force, I may have to emulate it.
Super Mario World was awesome, It's just that Yoshi's Island blows!!!
To the original poster,
If you noticed, he used "Contra III" in the video. According to him, no one hates the game except communists. Heh. I got a laugh out of that.
Peace,
manaman
I hadn't watched the video until now. It wasn't working yesterday when I made the post.
Contra III = Awesome (comunist or not)
So why not use Contra III in the still shots. C'mon Yoshi's Island. I will never forgive Yoshi morphing into a helicopter. How dare you Nintendo! (Not really releveant to the post, but a frickin' helicopter?!?!?!?!)
I didn't care for the attempts at humor in the video, but the Super Genintari totally rocks. It makes me want to kick the inventor in the teeth and steal his sweet system.
Ha ha,
I'm totally with you on the stealing the system bit, Matt.
I guess he'd better look out,
manaman
PS: I suspect you're right. "Contra III" is a game that no on can hate--even Communists!
I found the narrator dude to be really irritating. "welcome back children" is not comedy
I thought he was cool
Yeah, I thought he was pretty cool as well. At least he had a personality and was saying worthwhile things. So many people post videos with dead space and loads of filler words.
angry video game nerd should pick this up
it has succeeded in making me envious. son of a bitch =(
If only it were bigger...and more brown. Sigh.
/me wants
me wants too~
thats my child memories~
Ugh...I'm envious.
While not an all-out 1337 |-|aXorz job, it still is mighty impressive he had no issue tearing up the 4 legendary systems of our time to mash 'em together.
Version 2: Single controller WaveBird support, amirite?
I NEED THIS.
TURBO GRAPHICS. All i want is my turbo graphics.
No HDMI??
what a clean room. i wonder where they hide the glass pipe! ;)
jus playin'
Is it just me or does that look like pac-man on the front eating the buttons?
I do believe that you struck upon the creators intent. Congratulations Captain Obvious! (Or is that Officer Obvious?)
Now he just needs to make a controller with all 4 systems covered and have it output to a 4-way split screen so I can attempt the impossible! =P
This will only be cool until Ben Heck learns how to put all 4 of these consoles into a laptop.
I've been dreaming of a console like this for ages. I just wish it were smaller (maybe a new project for me?).
Hey, Engadget, wanna hook us up with a video that works?
Hmm look at that, a youtube glitch! It told me it was unavailable the first time I clicked play.
Sorry everyone!
How long did this guy sit down and think before he named his console something that sounded like super gin and tonic?
I would have preferred playing Actraiser on a 40 lb. white box called the Leviticus. Maybe it's just me.
Pretty sweet, but the semi-transparent thing... not so much.
They should have put faux-wood grain panels on there for maximum retro points.
Well,
I'd like to see it up close, but I think the translucent think is pretty cool. It sort of is in line with the whole retro thing. Remember all those controllers and Game Boys of the day?
Peace,
manaman
Holy crap, they wanna go backwards in technology! Well, go buy monopoly, I hate monopoly, bunch of cheaters!
I would not mind owning that.
So this is the guts of four consoles crammed into a plastic box, and then connected to a video selector switch and a power converter.
This is pretty much the same as hooking them all up to a video selector switch WITHOUT the box, except that the power strip is basically inside the case.
Put all these consoles on one mainboard, and we'll be impressed. All I see here is a guy who ripped the guts out of his old consoles and shoved them all into a single space with the same technology, switches, and controls as they had in the first place.
This is basically like an enclosed entertainment center.
I could build that, only half as big and better looking, not a bad job all things considered tho.
Frankenbit.
That would free up a bit of space by my tv.... on second thought, maybe not.
Ugly on the outside but beautiful on the inside . . . Thank God for that see-through case and those exposed controller ports.
I really dig this project, I'm glad to see that after a few years it's finally done. I want to give props to vomitsaw (the creator) for his work. It may not be as polished as the stuff Ben Heck throws out but vomitsaw has none of the equipment BH has. This isn't vomitsaw's first project either check out http://www.stupidfingers.com. In an argument against emulation, there is nothing like playing the game on the original console with the original controller. Oh sure it's not the same casing for the console but the guts are there and the controllers are original. When you already have the consoles and games why would you buy them again for DS, PSP, VC, etc...
this would save so much space in my house...
Cool mod and all, but this is hardly new; Yoshi DeHerra did this kind of stuff on The Screen Savers way back when, and what's more, he did it twice.
Nothing to see here, move along.
very nice! i like it!
It is! It is! A turkish wiseman riding a donkey backwards. oncoming traffic may be closer than it appears
ok heres the thing i so want one of these systems. some seem to complain about color and size but i say this. if i got out all my systems to play there would be a much bigger mess and take up much more room space plug unplug move pack unpack just to go play one system to the other. so basically in long run it really is saving space and time. color oh petes sakes who cares honestly. if i played a system cause the color was pretty id be in ps nintendo face saying make pink and blue consoles. *me* slaps head. hello color never matters its what the system can do. question is where do you get one and how much. only down fall to me is that coleco wasnt added to it. thats another system i miss and loved. would i buy one of these yes in a heart beat!! if you can give me info on how i can get ahold of one please dont hesitate to email me cause i so want one.
It looks like it is turning on every system at once though, meaning that you are actually running 4 systems at the same time.
I'm not discounting the cool factor, but damn, that is more power than necessary!
Also, I don't know how easy it would have been but you can get S-Video out for the SNES as well as the Genesis (via soldering). You can probably do it with the nintendo as well. Much better colors.
No, It looks like they power up when he hits the switch, otherwise Contra's start-up screens would be farther along...
I was thinking the same thing until i watched it again. hopefully I'm right otherwise it is just a huge waste of power.
