Nokia's 6212 with Bluetooth NFC: Let the pairing revolution begin!
This is the day we've been waiting for. While the 3G Nokia 6212 classic doesn't look like much, what it lacks in style is more than made up by the genius of Bluetooth-enabled Near Field Communication. If you remember the video we showed you way back in March of 2007, the combo makes device pairing and transferring content like photos, video, music, calendar data, contacts, etc. as easy a touching the phone to a NFC-enabled picture frame, cellphone, speaker, or headset like Nokia's own NFC-variant of the BH-210. It will also work with NFC payment systems. According to Jeremy Belostock, the Head of Near Field Communications at Nokia, "NFC-capable handsets such as the Nokia 6212 classic are set to change the way mobile phone users interact with devices and services in their surroundings." You said it Jeremy, you said it. Expected to start shipping in Europe and Asia in the Q3 for about €200.

But, does it N-Gage?
Nope, it's S40, or in other words, a "dumbphone"...
N-Gage is only for S60 smartphones.
sorry to reply myself, but I like the sound of that. "Does it N-Gage"
That's OK, you didn't reply to yourself anyway.
good!!!
i like it
The digital wallet (and digital credit card) are just around the corner. If I was Nokia I would patent the concept of a mobile phone digital credit card transaction system then charge the banks to use it.
please, you think Nokia are/would be first with this?
London Underground's "Oyster" card, for example!
Personally, I think NFC/NFID would be the high-tech pickpocket's dream come true.
Foil lined wallets all round thanks.
Yeah, Korea's had credit card functionality in their phones since 2001. I haven't seen too many people use it, though.
I heard the pay-by-swipe was going to be on Android phones, considering Google already has half the world's credit cards/bank accounts/etc.
I'm going to patent some fancy driver's license holder for phones, b/c that will be the only thing you can't shed from you billfold when this stuff goes mainstream.
I can hear RIAA warming up their typewriters as I type
Nokia product quality sux.

What does an 5610 have to do with this 6212?
FINALLY someone quick-fixed the only problem with pairing devices: pairing them. We shouldn't have to go through menus and wait times just to search for and pair devices.
provided you're happy to exchange data sans authorisation with any other device in range!
I'll stick to pairing thanks, then at least I KNOW (and have CONTROL OVER) who I'm sending my shit to!
I don't think it will just spontaneously share all your pr0n pics with your wife's handset, unless you accept the connection on both devices...
Oh no the boogy man.
In range; which is millimeters. Big honking deal; if you let someone get that close to your phone, they'll probably take your wallet instead...
Takes again 6 months for Nokia to start shipping announced
models and couple more to launch them also in US. Damn
they are fast ;)
not a real fan but just letting yah know there is a grammatical mistake "contacts, etc. as easy a touching" easy as a touching?? okay..
So, Engadget finally decided to post minor Nokia news for once. What's gotten into you guys? Maybe your iDicks were too limp to suck on today, huh?
Effortless pairing spells STDs, but I'm sure Nokia bothered to implement some sort of security into this. Looks like a bland standard issue for the €1 with contract folks otherwise, gadget freaks get the E51.
I love the idea of NFC and can't wait for it to become commonplace. Well, I say that now, but I see no reason why it would ever be a negative thing. NFC sounds fantastic. Bring it on!
No Touch Screen? that suck
The image on the article shows that the NFC has 2 modes: "on" and "off". so those who are concerned about having to line their wallets with foil can sleep soundly.
... ahh, the utility of proofreading.
It's so good!!
Sorry but I don't think this will help the stock...Nokia is a good company for sure and stock is stable but I was hoping for something that was really cool, sleek , eye catching...... this looks just like any other nokia phone and in Asia ( huge market ) the people will buy the coolest looking gadgets.....Palm has a pretty cool one that just came out
