Is this the gun-metal gray unit?
No -- the gunmetal gray unit is a limited edition model and not the one pictured here.
This is the bundle with the 80gb PS3 (piano black), dualshock 3 controller, MGS4, and a free voucher to download Pain.
I'm getting the intense, bottomless feeling that we're getting 40 gigs INSTEAD of a limited edition gunmetal PS3... I must say, that is pissing me off big time. I only own a 360 and Wii, this was my reason to buy PS3. The limited edition, non gloss MGS system was the tipping point for me...
If that's the case, I can't help but feel slighted, left out.
Ummm...anyone else notice that the PS3 in the picture is not the Gunmetal version?
this brings me back to the days of yore when pack-in games didn't cost extra. how i miss those days.

i have been tracking down the gunmetal grey PS3 ever since it was announced to the US
i was like 0_0 when i first saw the 80gb, thinking it was the gunmetal grey...but it turned out to be the standard 80gb
any word on the gunmetal grey MGS4 PS3 anyone?

so if the 80gb model with the 59.99 came and what is it 49.99 for the controller ? is 499.99 does that mean we can expect the 80gb core model to drop in price? i thought the rumors were that sony was nixing the 80gb model ..

Dude, this post makes no sense to me... There is no more 80Gb version. This is a unique bundle for MGS4, hence the higher price. This is a good deal considering you get the 80Gb ps3, game, and dualshock 3 controller, and a great big MGOrgasm at the same time.

The grey PS3, according to Sony, will be "very VERY" limited. That leads me to believe that it won't actually be released for sale (it would make a fine prize for the top MGSO beta testers, though). If it is released for sale, don't expect to see it at a store - keep your eyes fixed on SonyStyle and Konami.com.
Sweet price on the bundle. $399 40GB or $499 80GB w/MGS? Not much of a question there.

Note that while not gray, in the sony picture of the box, it does show the PS3 with some artwork on the actual machine. So... it may be semi-special in the pkg... but like those here, I want the gunmetal color.
I don't think that's artwork - it's just the reflection of the dude standing next to it - they did it for effect.

This is a really good deal (80 GB one not 40 GB one) your practically getting a duleshock 3 and MGS4 free bc the 80 was 499$ without by it self but now you get mgs4 free im getting it hope they don't run out of them i saw the sign at gamestop June 12 the bundle will be there cant wait omg ill line up a day before WOOOOO love sony and MGS FF all those great games.
Until there is a 'Backwards Compatiable' in the little box I could care less about an 'Add to Cart' box.
I'm willing to drop my life-savings on the gunmetal gray version, i don't have a ps3 yet and really want one for gta4, msg4, gran turismo series, etc, and especially now that blu-ray has won.
I'm dying to play Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection before playing MGS4 but I don't know if this PS3 will play PS2 games, i'm really confused as to which ps3 will play MGS: EC all i really want to play is all the MGS games but i would be pissed if it didn't work on PS3, can someone explain what kind of PS3 i need to play PS2 games, (like MGS: EC)
You need to find a 60Gb ps3 somewhere, possibly ebay. Its been discontinued so good luck finding one for a fair price.
Yes the 60gig Playstation 3 version will play all old games because it has the same chip set as the Playstation 2. The 80gig Playstation 3 dropped those chips to cut cost but they will also play old games but only through emulation (like the 360). The downside to that is that only plays around 85% of Playstation 2 games but patches are constantly updated to play more games and I am sure that Metal Gear series falls under the 85% of games.

I think this is a great deal/I think the current price of $399 for the 40g PS3 is not such a good deal.
This is just the bundle/pricing I was waiting for. And while I have the cash, I may take advantage of the $100 off when you get the Sony card. Pay it off, then cancel the card.
Then all I have to do is buy as second DS3 controller.
And Hot Shots Golf.
And the wireless Logitech keyboard.
That's all I need.

price cut imminent is what I think... Too bad I'm going to miss this by 15 days this summer.
I guess I'll buy it off amazon and ask for a price match, when they actually cut prices...

"SonyStyle, complete with a SKU and price point". That should be changed to "aN SKU". Even though it should be 'a', when spoken it should be 'an'. Same as on Halo 3 it says Picked up AN SMG because it is pronounced Ess Emm Gee. Unless of course you read SKU as 'Skoo' and not as 'Ess Kay You'.
Anyway, good luck to actually getting this if you preorder it. I'm predicting a lot of sellouts and a few months of only-seventeen-copies-of-this-game-on-the-market-until-Christmas syndrome.

If you've ever worked in or been around people who work retail, the vast majority do in fact say it as "skew", and not the individual letters.
(Although i'm sure there are folks who say it the other way, too)
As much as I love the Metal Gear Solid series Sony is going to have to come up with more triple A exclusive games and/or blu-ray titles have to come down in price before they get my cash for a PS3.

What's the release date in Canada? On Sony Style it says July 24th, WTH? Also, won't there also be a ton of these bundles available at Canadian stores, no pre-order necessary? (a la Halo 3 Bundle)

I believe the date reflects the backordering. In other words, they're all sold out, and expect to get the next shipment in July. But this only applies to their warehouse.
I ordered mine in the SonyStyle retail store which will all get their own fair share.
