"Scroll" concept device packs everything but a sense of reality
Sure, there's plenty of far fetched concept devices from big players like Nokia, but it's nice to see that folks without millions of dollars in research funding can also come up with equally unrealistic devices, as evidenced by this so-called "Scroll" contraption created by 13 Tech Design. What's more, this one doesn't get by on looks alone, with it packing a touchscreen-based cellphone, a 10 megapixel camera and 1080p camcorder, various media-playing features, built-in WiFi and Bluetooth, and a full-fledged computer that runs on Vista or XP. That's right, it seems that even fantasyland gadgets need to fall back on XP.

Looks pretty cool, if it was real and not a concept I would consider it.
Wow that keyboard is TINY. Look at the finger size vs. the keyboard, or really anything on the screen. Hope you have a microscope.
Here's how I would fix this: Chop off the right side. The flexible back screen rolls into the phone/camera/keyboard on the left, but pulls out rigid (think 80's snap bracelets). You turn it on its side and can type, like a UMPC. You scroll it in and have a smartphone. Still unrealistic (today), but more awesome.
well, you can just specify 'extra small' for those two extra hands you're going to need to implant to even use it
The background in that picture looks like the real-life version of your balcony in Playstation Home.
Anyone who wants a phone with XP or Vista should have his head checked. A desktop UI is much too fussy for use in a phone.
Wow, I see Frankenstein branched into industrial design. Ugly as sin and awkward as hell.
still dont get how your soposed to do anything with both hands holding the scroll apart,it must also have psychic powers to read your mind, cant wait to get one, really i cant, ill be dead before they come out in 2359.
Yeah but it's COOL!
These concepts is what brings innovation in to this world. Concepts are a great way to experiment with designs.
While I agree that this is far-fetched, it is refreshing to see researchers pushing the envelope on what is doable, rather than succumbing to urge to push out a new gadget that will be forgotten in a year.
Honestly, were this device to hit the market, it would sell. It answers the needs (and ridiculous desires) of every gadget geek out there (aside from the OS of course). Bravo to 13 Tech Design for developing a mock up of the device we consumers have been told time and time again is unrealistic.
The Nerd Sea scrolls?
This will be great when they are able to make a film based display that can be rolled up, and streamline the design to fit in your pocket.
I am more interested in what someone is going to do with those mini projectors, a smartphone and some sort of virtual touch technology... carry a full blown PC in your pocket that can project a 24" widescreen on demand!
As a graphic designer, i hope to god the person who made that isn't proud. What an ugly contraption!
Even if it is far more feasible than nokia's offerings (with a number of the big boys having flexible OLED screens currently in alpha), its not very elegant n if you size it up.. is like twice the size of the iphone (which is pretty well endowed as it is!). If you ask me that thing looks like it was drawn and imagined up like 10 years ago.
Hideous
how in the world would you use that for a phone? and imagine trying to hold it up to your right ear...you'd have to position your hands in such a way so as you'd walk around looking like you're about to throw a hadoken fireball.
Blatant ripoff of the 2015 iPhone for three-armed Venusians. Unfortunately this "phoney" copy has very downgraded specs from the Ultra WIMAX 50 megapixel Apple model that runs Siberian Tiger OSXIV.
Wow, is it 1994 again?
so, who needs reality when you have technology.
Nokia's earlier concept design, the morph, was a lot less ugly and much more impressive. Although probably a lot farther off.
