Samsung and Armani HDTV hits the stage in Milan
That Samsung / Armani tie-up continues to grow closer, following the cellphones is a new premium HDTV unveiled on the opening day of the Milan International Furniture Fair. The 46- and 52-inch 1080p LCDs include Samsung's 100Hz display technology, wrapped in a design inspired by Giorgio Armani's '08/'09 Armani/Casa home furnishings collection -- inspired by Eileen Gray and reminiscent of Hollywood's Golden Age -- built to incorporate the TV as a design element of the room rather than hide it. Expect the 42-inch model, with stylish backlit remote control (a smaller, pebble shaped remote is also included for your less stylish friends) and specially designed front-mounted power switch to launch in Europe, Korea and Russia mid-summer, followed by the 52-inch in late summer.

Looks nice, I am to busy saving for my retirement in 40 years. I will ask santa for one.

If Armani's going to make the quality and performance of Samsung products better, I'd be happy to have them around. In the end it's us consumers that benefit anyway. More choices are always better.
Cap'n Jack @ Apr 17th 2008 1:41AM
Wouldnt that be 120hz? Nice to have the facts straight.....
ec @ Apr 17th 2008 1:54AM
um... Somebody drank the Samsung Kool-Aid.
Heineken77 @ Apr 17th 2008 2:08AM
Hope they took the blue pill with that kool-aid
King Mook Mook @ Apr 17th 2008 1:57AM
Yes, but can it be used to play Crysis?
James @ Apr 17th 2008 3:11AM
Are you really that stupid to ask that question or do you seriously think that's still funny?
Either way, as Red Foreman would say, "You're a grade-A dumbass."
Brian @ Apr 17th 2008 9:53AM
Umm, it was very clearly a joke...

I don't know, looks too fat to be an Armani model...
gabe @ Apr 17th 2008 2:44AM
if this was armani exchange it would have A/x Logos at least in 10 places
Daza @ Apr 17th 2008 2:47AM
No, it wouldn't be 120Hz. Not everyone in the world runs their power on 60Hz, most of Europe and Oceania use 50Hz cycles. When doubling it, it will become 100Hz, not 120Hz like North America.
So yes, Engadget do have their facts straight.
nDee @ Apr 17th 2008 6:10AM
Is it 2008 now?
I'm damn sure most Bravia Xs have 120hz since 2007.
Or maybe you simply don't know much about modern technology.
nDee @ Apr 17th 2008 6:13AM
It's even stranger than people think about power cycles but not imagery when we talk about 120Hz on Engadget.
asc99c @ Apr 17th 2008 7:04AM
nDee traditionally TVs were refreshed in line with the power cycles, because it was harder to do it out of sync with the AC input power for a CRT. So most SD TV in Europe is broadcast in 50 Hz interlaced format. I think the high def TV is also broadcast at 50 Hz for both 1080 and 720.
As a result, most TVs here that do the whole calculating an intermediate frame will be running with 100 Hz picture. Modern TVs, LCDs definitely, can refresh at whatever speed the source picture is at, so I guess in the US it will be 120 Hz and other places 100 Hz.
Daza @ Apr 17th 2008 7:18AM
nDee, you are absolutely wrong. You are simply being ignorant if you think that 100Hz does not exist. Your fabulous Sony Bravia X series also comes in a 100Hz model *gasp* -- for Europe and Oceania [see - http://www.sony.com.au/homecinema/catalog/product.jsp?categoryId=22400 ]. Read the bit that says "Motionflow - 100Hz". Also, if you still don't believe me, have a look at the LAxxF81BDX - [http://www.samsung.com/au/f8/].
This 50Hz/60Hz issue dates back to a long, long time ago. You accuse me of not knowing about modern technology, unfortunately it is you who lacks the knowledge.
By the way, I sell these TVs at a big-box retailer in Australia. There's little I don't know about these things :)
DiscoCat5 @ Apr 19th 2008 1:08AM
onya daz, stand up to that doush who thinks hes smart. by the way at the same time thanks for answering a question i had ages ago, i read an article in a pommy magazine about the samsung f8 being 120hz, and looks on the aussy website and no 120hz only 100hz, i ended up buying the tv by the way.
Calagan @ Apr 17th 2008 2:51AM
If you want to hook up a PC, it'll surely do a better job than a Pioneer plasma.
Johan S @ Apr 17th 2008 3:02AM
I was expecting an OLED remote with voice control.
Christopher P. TOdd @ Apr 17th 2008 5:26AM
sometimes is is just an embarrassment to be a westerner (not as in Cali but as in the Occident). (electronic) Companies now think that we will jump at any faddish crap because it has some "exclusive," "luxury" brand label. You know what? The real sickening part is that there are MANY people who will jump at this because it has the Armani name affixed to it. SIGH!
Russ @ Apr 17th 2008 7:59AM
Gloss. Black. Television.
What a marvel in design that only the geniuses at Armani could bring us! I mean they've even gone one step further into the future by making it more rectangular than everything else on the market. THIS is why we pay the premiums for their logos!
Brendan @ Apr 17th 2008 5:39AM
Samsung dix points, Armani nil points.
Don't know why/how Armani let Samsung keep that unsightly logo on the front. Better no logo at all if the idea is to let design speak for itself
Vishnu @ Apr 17th 2008 9:44AM
100 Hz in Europe
Cap'n Jack @ Apr 17th 2008 12:05PM
The 100hz has nothing to do with the power supply. The ratio needs to mutiples of 12 for converstion of the 24 frames of film. That is why the panels are of 60 and 120 hz.
tosh @ Apr 18th 2008 10:37AM
Ugly as sin, fashion designers are not product designers...quite clearly.

Heineken @ Apr 23rd 2008 3:17PM
Nice....but it's no Pioneer...
