Limited Edition Joy Division Zune makes us dance, dance, dance to the radio
Listen to the silence, let it ring on. Microsoft is said to be releasing a limited edition, Joy Division Zune featuring an adaptation of Peter Saville's pulsating cover art from the band's Unknown Pleasures debut. The launch is meant to parallel the June 10th release of the Joy Division DVD and could, in one fell swoop, lift the Zune above its L-7 image. Then we could go on as though nothing was wrong and hide from these days we remained all alone.
P.S. That's our mockup of what we hope the Joy Division Zune will look like.

Easy.
I look for smug remarks in posts with a strong bias with no real justification. I've seen this guy around before (despite his single post, he must have used a new email address), and most of them were in Apple/Microsoft posts.
He's a fanboy. I'm not. There we go. Move along.
@Zeus
Your post: "Why wouldn't they want to be associated with one of the richest companies in the world and get advertising from a special edition Zune, being that is better than any competing iPod..."
Then you say: "I look for smug remarks in posts with a strong bias with no real justification. I've seen this guy around before (despite his single post, he must have used a new email address), and most of them were in Apple/Microsoft posts.
He's a fanboy. I'm not. There we go. Move along."
As I have stated before, you are the best example of an oxymoron! Utterly hilarious. Simply because you still won't understand why. LOL
disliking the tactics of one company automatically makes you the evangelist of the competing company?
that's apple fanbot logic for ya.
Really, Jubei? I love all the hypocrites on this site. Its so funny.
You sit there and try to claim that I'M the fanboy all the time, yet you haven't looked in the proverbial mirror yet. I'm not a fanboy, and by no means worship Microsoft or agree with everything they do. The fact of the matter is, they have a better PMP than any competing iPod. I know because I have owned several iPods and have used the iPod Classic outside of the store, and I have seen all it has to offer, and I would take the Zune time and time again. Does that make me a fanboy? No.
You have no experience with the Zune, as you have claimed before, and have been known to badmouth Microsoft and the Zune in damn near every blog post about either of them (and tend to be the main ones you visit as well). Your logic is flawed, you have no case, and your words have no merit.
You're done.
Sinai, its probably just to ignore this guy at this point. I've had my words with him before, and every time he has proven to be a bumbling idiot with no clue. He likes to think he can get under people's skin (its the fucking internet, how pathetic!), and continues to think he's winning whatever argument he's in, even though he's failing hard.
Isn't Zeus the clown who was bragging about the durability of his 5-month-old 80G Zune?
Nope, no fanboy there!
Though perhaps making it to the 5-month mark is an exceptional feat for a Microsoft product?
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going back to listening to my 5-year-old iPod (takes a licking, keeps on ticking).
Oh wow, Quix, you're cool. No, I was bragging about my year + old Zune 30 that has out lasted all my previous iPods and is still going. With a metal case and tempered glass screen, no doubt the 80 is more durable.
Another plus is engravings, only I suppose I could just put my iPods in my pocket a few times and get hundreds of fresh engravings.
Too many tools around here.
"Isn't Zeus the clown who was bragging about the durability of his 5-month-old 80G Zune?
Nope, no fanboy there!"
Hilarious. It's quite pathetic actually. He's under the impression that I'm here to anger him? Of-course with a username of Zeus: God, its simply elementary to see that he's suffering from godlike delusion.
He's also demanding authoritative status with all his post, by implying that his handle is akin to him being a godlike deity. As I've stated before, a perfect example of a walking talking oxymoron amongst us. Babbling nonsense with nothing to really back up his love for his Zune. Utterly the most pathetic rebranded gigabit player in the market.
Nice - Now where's the Kraftwerk special edition one?
ah this is beautiful! not only that but it coincides perfectly with the time when i was going to purchase my next zune. now if only they had it in green.
@ Geir E
The JD vid you linked was not even JD in the vid. The song was, but the footage wasn't.
Bono by the way, is a huge fan of Ian Curtis; stating that his voice was "Holy" during an interview once. U2 cites them as a major influence and they also cover JD songs all the time in concert (see following link).

Here's the most famous footage of Joy Division:

I have to admit my relationship with JD is rather lacking, so I did not know that. But that is impressive.
But I am a fan in general of the classic English bands, but have heard mostly from Beatles, Rolling Stones, Led Zepplin, The Who, Pink Floyd, Queen, U2, Bowie, Deep Purple, Kinks etc. Heck, I even wake up to Dire Straits every morning. So I wouldn't even recall JD if I was asked to name some.
Still, my argument was mostly geared towards the two previous versions of a contemporary and not very significant rap and hiphop-groups.
This looks like it will be cool.

[In reply to JL's question]
Man I miss my 30GB Halo edition. They need to make a Halo 3 edition Zune 80 soon. Hell at this point I'll take any military themed Zune 80, especially if it's US navy themed.
If Ian Curtis hadn't already committed suicide, he certainly would now.
I'm not going to lie, I really want this. As a long time mac user, and owner of a U2 Edition iPod Photo (I don't really like U2, but I like the red scroll wheel), I would prefer to replace my iPod with a Zune, specifically a Joy Division Zune.
All of my friends think I am crazy for feeling this way; I was among the first of my friends to get an iPod, but I've used the Zune outside of stores and I really prefer the interface to that of the 6G iPods.
Now, I'm not saying I prefer the interface of the Zune to the iPod Touch. I would rather have an iPod Touch more than anything, but I feel that the Zune is an excellent quality player, burdened by mediocre software. (But so is the iPod, I stopped liking iTunes after they removed internet library sharing)
Just because you associate with a cool band (and JD is uber cool) doesn't mean that coolness will stick to your device. Ian Curtis' life was short and intense and he suffered from epilepsy. He left behind his estranged wife who he married as a teenager. He has been made out as a hero but while he had enormous talent, New Order went on to do great work as well. Unknown Pleasures and Closer are both classics and inspirational to many bands and kept Factory Records alive, at least for a few hectic years, despite incredibly naiive management. Their talent pool was amazing (Crispy Ambulance, Happy Mondays, A Certain Ratio, Durutti Column and more). Two films worth catching are 24 Hour Party People and Control.
Long live Joy Division but I hope a new generation doesn't think Zune shares any of their qualities.
They should do a few more classic album covers. Pink floyd albums maybe. 'Dark Side of The Zune' anyone?
What next... Joy Division oven gloves?!
Ooh, touche. I want me a "sex camp" Zune! An allusion to Joy Division's name. ^_~
..... and somewhere in the distance a lone dog barked.
They've lost control again...
Oh yeah. Ian would have just looooved this.
Ian would probably kill himself again if he knew his band was going to be pimped out on a commercial piece of kit.
Have to agree with you. Ian Curtis and Tony Wilson will be turning in their graves. New Order have just sold out in the worst way to one of the worst companies. Still I suppose they need the money.
Maybe the next Zune will have a picture of Steve Balmer on the back - now THAT will be nice for all the gadget-loving fannyboyz.
Isn't *every* Zune technically a "limited edition?"
..rimshot..
lol I actually laughed at that.
If limited edition means AWESOME, then yes every Zune is a limited edition.
if it looks like that i might just have to give up my ipod mini for it
Why aren't you giving one of these away Engadget? You stingy basters. You should give away one of everything. Do unto others. The gift of giving and all. Tax writeoff. Make the recipient submit a review. DO IT! I dare ya.
I'd say this is J Allard's doing. He's known to be a huge Joy Division fan. Met him at E3 a couple of years ago and he was raving about some guy's Unknown Pleasures T-shirt.
Anyways, if you could personalise a Zune with any album artwork, that'd be cool. Not that I'd buy a Zune ;)
