Video: Hands-on Samsung's 10 megapixel / 720p NV24HD shooter
Samsung and pretty much everyone else is taking a long hard look at their clumsy UIs as consumer electronics continue to commodify. We've certainly seen that demonstrated with striking effect with the Samsung F480's unfortunately named TouchWiz interface. Now take a look at the UI for Samsung's NV24HD. Besides shooting 720p video, this 10.2 megapixel shooter with 24-mm ultra-wide angle lens features a series of touch-sensitive buttons surrounding a brilliant 2.5-inch AMOLED display. An interesting twist on the lifeless touch-screens we've seen on other cameras. However, it does so at the expense of screen size on a crowded back panel. Still, we're a bit smitten by the user experience which we quickly got the hang of. See for yourself in the video after the break.

somehow i believe once you have bought a camera......you can safely wait at least a couple of years before anything truly groundbreaking comes up....so nice camera but a bit ho hum....been there clicked that.

The entire NV series is the same way with the touch sensitive buttons. Don't know why you're acting like this is new. I LOVE my Samsung NV10, just wish it had something equivalent to a HOLD button so it wouldn't accidently turn on in my pocket and break the telescoping lens. Live and learn i guess.

I have an NV10 for a 'throw in pocket' camera (i.e., not my main one), and heaven help you if you ever lose the (non-standard) power charger/adapter. I couldn't find a way to get one separately, and after months of contacting Samsung I finally got a reply from them to... go to the exact same Web page where I'd sent the query from (which was a support/KB page).
Luckily I finally found where I'd put the thing, but I don't like thinking that it's that hard to get something as simple (and easy to lose) as a charger... all of my other cameras use standard mini-USB plugs, so it's usually a non-issue.

i just love my NV10. I think the UI is spectacular compared to a lot of cameras.

What's she smiling about? I must know....
FrankTheCrank @ Apr 18th 2008 11:05AM
Basically, it's a love triangle thing.
She's smiling because the guy on the far right just said, "I'm stealing your bitch, what are you going to do about it?". And the guy on the left is about to lunge forward an beat the guy on the right. The battle for her love thrills her, hence the blood thirsty smile...

she is way too skinny and they just decided they would buy her lunch
Magallanes @ Apr 18th 2008 3:02PM
It's a white slavery photo and she's faking the smile.
Brian @ Apr 18th 2008 4:31PM
No, no, no....everyone has it all wrong. The guy on the left is the boyfriend and the guy on the right is the plastic surgeon. They are negotiating for implants, and the surgeon and the chick are ready to seal the deal.
dajimmers @ Apr 18th 2008 11:16AM
24mm may be wide-angle for a P&S, but ULTRA wide angle?
Also, how is this screen in sunlight? It might be awesome, but if not it's going to be tough making changes when you can't tell what the buttons are for...

1. Nice hands! I like whoever's cuticles those are.
Unless you're a guy. In which case, yes, nice hands, but I don't really swing that way.
2. This touch-button reminds me VERY much of a Sony MP3 player I had a few years ago:
http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx?Quicklinx=3FXH
(By the way, that was a fantastic device in competition with the 2nd or 3rd generation iPod of that era... 40GB, big color screen with photos, etc. Great sound quality. Intuitive remote reminiscent of MD players.
Ok, I digress.)
That, too, was very intuitive. I wonder if this is similar technology.
As an attorney, I wonder if there's even some patent infringement. Or maybe some licensing that happened.
Anyway, the camera looks tite.

"Nice hands! I like whoever's cuticles those are."
It sounds like you DO swing that way.

I love the corporate types in the LCD. I bet they're discussing how many jobs they need to axe to pump up their options, and then deciding who gets to bang the girl afterward.

That dude has three hands, (and one of them is manicured)!

Anyone know what video format the 720p videos are saved in?
Brian @ Apr 18th 2008 4:32PM
Except he forgot to do his nose first....bad marketing, imo.
