iPod sleeve takes fashion to its logical, meaty conclusion
What's better than having a nice leather or cloth iPod sleeve to show off to your friends? If you're thinking one made of imitation meat -- you're dead right! Apparently, a company in Japan is under the impression that you want to wrap your music player in a grade A lookalike, undoubtedly to the thrill of your vegetarian friends and family. Of course, don't just get one for the shock value -- this thing oozes pure, sophisticated style. If you've got ¥6,800 (or about $66) and dignity to spare, it can be all yours.

That maybe the most disgusting case I've seen in my life.
Justin @ Apr 19th 2008 3:38AM
It probably is, but you still gotta admit it's a really clever packaging idea :]
Mr.Tech @ Apr 19th 2008 3:42AM
The question is this, does it taste as good as it looks? Mn... Kobe Beef!
KangMin @ Apr 19th 2008 4:46AM
another fine way to sponsor a vegetarian
wasabi @ Apr 19th 2008 5:47AM
tasty if you put it on the grill.
fanman @ Apr 19th 2008 6:10AM
I thought the 'apple' was meant to go in the hogs mouth, not be wrapped in it.
nih @ Apr 19th 2008 6:30AM
Bacon I can't eat?!
What sort of hell have I been born into?

OM NOM NOM NOM
Twitchy @ Apr 19th 2008 8:36AM
It may be ugly, but when the battery on your iPod goes critical, at least you're left with a busted iPod AND lunch.
DeoWulf @ Apr 19th 2008 4:50PM
Justin- Reminds me of the Dinosaur Comics book. I think Ryan North thought of it first though- http://qwantz.com/merchandise-books.html

sk8rpro @ Apr 19th 2008 5:38AM
I do - it's an apocalypse which was uploaded by myself a few days ago.

Man, what an ugly case.
yo_atkins @ Apr 19th 2008 3:27AM
Clearly, this has a much "deeper" appeal than even the nicest of leathers.
phanbouy @ Apr 19th 2008 3:28AM
i think you're taking this atkins diet a little too seriously =)
JJ @ Apr 19th 2008 3:36AM
I wonder if you can order it in different flavors like the local Polish deli?
A Pastrami cover, Salami, Ham etc... I would lean towards a Smoked Roast beef myself...
Esat Dedezade @ Apr 19th 2008 3:43AM
I think I speak for everyone here when I say:
"Eeeeeew, gross".
Bufsabre @ Apr 19th 2008 4:13AM

roflercopterer @ Apr 19th 2008 12:53PM

Esat Dedezade @ Apr 19th 2008 3:20PM
Low ranked. Seriously?
Tough crowd today.
Zeus.:God @ Apr 19th 2008 11:56PM
Meh, thats just what happens when they're well done. Too many meat references in here.
Weeliano @ Apr 19th 2008 3:46AM
Have to hand it to the zany Japanese, the packaging looks likes it's supposed to be in the frozen meats section.
rony @ Apr 19th 2008 3:55AM
looks like something the chinese government would gift his holiness the Dalai Lama on his birthday.....
Truth_BRINGER @ Apr 19th 2008 4:16AM
"Apparently, a company in Japan is under the impression that you want to wrap your music player in a grade A lookalike..."
yeah, well "Apparently" someone at engadget has been living in a cave and is still surprised by Japan's preference for bizarre and nonsensical products, fetishes, etc.
I imagine in some future crapgadget post \Mr. Topolsky is going to update us on the next things he finds out about Japan like that they lost WWII, that they like to grope women on subways, and that they censor all their pr0n with mosaic tiles.
Well done Josh-o.
Esat Dedezade @ Apr 19th 2008 5:25AM
Was there any real need for that?
You don't like it, scroll past it. I for one am glad that I read this.
The author has done nothing wrong posting it.
Use your judgement and scroll past next time. It's not like your paying for this service.
Zorque @ Apr 19th 2008 5:30AM
Japan is really fucking weird, but that was probably one of the most stereotyping and, frankly, racist posts I've seen here. Good job on that.
sk8rpro @ Apr 19th 2008 5:48AM
@Zorque, how's it racist? Let's call a spade a spade - if something was Japan, let's admit it was made in Japan.
Just because you don't like the weird stuff made in Japan does not mean you're racist - it means you have different culture preferences.
Esat Dedezade @ Apr 19th 2008 6:04AM
"Japan is really fucking weird, but that was probably one of the most stereotyping and, frankly, racist posts I've seen here. Good job on that."
Are you serious? This article is not racist at all. Look what you wrote on the other hand: "Japan is fucking weird". Thats worse than the bloody article (which is fine anyway!)
Your gonna be in lowest ranked country soon my friend.
Abuzar @ Apr 19th 2008 10:44AM
And you hear a swish sound right above Esat's head.
Zorque was talking about Truth Bringer's post, not the article.
Lars @ Apr 19th 2008 11:07AM
It's funny how people on the internet assume everyone knows everything they do.
Esat Dedezade @ Apr 19th 2008 11:38AM
Holy crap you're right. I completely misunderstood who he was replying to. Zorque, apologies.
I need a nap.
Zed @ Apr 19th 2008 9:18PM
^^ noob ^^
LiQuiD_FuSioN @ Apr 19th 2008 1:37PM
@Abuzar
"Zorque was talking about Truth Bringer's post, not the article."
And you speaking for somebody else? Anyone could have made that mistake of not seeing where the reply was coming from in a nest full of jumbled up replies.
@Esat Dedezade
"Holy crap you're right. I completely misunderstood who he was replying to. Zorque, apologies.
I need a nap."
No need to apologize. The ranking system here will speak for itself. (Naps are good, btw.) Just my two cents, people!
maff @ Apr 19th 2008 5:35PM
I have to say, it's not all mosaiced and theres some good stuf out there if ya look around
Ypoknons @ Apr 19th 2008 5:37PM
Oh, I think you're over-estimating how overly perverted the average Japanese person is. You could end up very disappointed.
Zorque @ Apr 19th 2008 7:45PM
I dunno why I'm low ranked, calling an entire island of people rapists is a little overboard in my book.
OddManOut @ Apr 19th 2008 9:18PM
"...calling an entire island of people rapists is a little overboard in my book."
Depends on the island, don't it ? If the island was Alcatraz, at certain points in time such a statement might not have been too far off the mark...
And a word of advice; if you find yourself near an island of rapists, the LAST thing you want to do is go "overboard"...
(Smile people, it's the internet...)

Ideal for creeping people out on the bus. It has that Texas Chainsaw Massacre appeal to it.
