Canon EOS 5D Mark II leaked on German website?
Camera-lovers are all aflutter and abloggy this morning over a supposed leak of Canon's oft-rumored EOS 5D Mark II on a German wing of the company's website. As you can see by the photo above, the site appears to have accidentally listed the camera with specs and an accompanying photo, though there is some question as to the authenticity of the image. Did we say some? We meant it looks kind of fake to us -- but what do we know? It's not like we've been trained by a highly elite wing of the Secret Service to spot Photoshopped images. Great, now we have to kill you.

The 5D has ran out of stock in many camera stores for quite some time. I'm not surprise to see this long due update.

Kudos for the first sensible comment on this page my friend.

This is many days old and has been debunked on numerous photography fan-boy sites.

The thing that makes me wonder is that at the bottom its described as "small unobtrusive and light weight " I doubt that a DSLR falls into that category

I own a Canon 1Ds2, and te current 5D is small. Now teh XSi is super small...

As crimson400 pointed out, this is really old news and debunked ad-nauseum on many dedicated photography sites/forums. I give you an A for the topic and a D+ for your research.

I know this is fake and whathaveyou, but I'm just praying for a release of the damn thing SOON. I would love to replace my 20D before I begin my photography thesis!

looking at the original screendump: http://www.pbase.com/johannes_hoffmann/image/95783283
it' pretty obvious that the distance between the checkbox and the 5d picture is a lot smaller than for the other cameras. i say it's pretty obvious shopjob.

look at the letters as well a bad photoshop job...........funny though using photoshop in regards to a camera being released lol.
mackan @ Apr 22nd 2008 11:05AM
it's impossible. it's against the laws of fysics that only one processor would be able to produce 6,5 pictures per second with 16 mp

Canon doesn't want to kill sales of its current stock of 5Ds. However, if you look at their website you'll see they're offering a "kit" package that includes a 24-150 lens. SOP for manufacturers who want to reduce current inventory before announcing new models.
As for the real specs, who knows. "The Live View Function" of the 40D has serious limits. Download the user manual for the 40D to get a preview of possible 5D mk 2 updates.
The biggest problem I've had with my four year old 5D is crud on the sensor. I've had to clean the sensor (I'm an astronomer and am familiar with cleaning ultra sensitive CCD/CMOSs that self-destruct if you look at them cross eyed) and after a few months I get new crud on the sensor.
The 40D has the ultrasonic cleaning mode as well as a software based "hide the goober" option. On astronomy cameras the software method is used to reduce errors caused by "dark current" or pixel errors caused by long exposure times.
I don't own a 40D, so someone who does would be a better source of info on these items. Still, I'm so tired of fighting a dusty sensor that I'm willing to buy a new 5D mk 2 for that alone.
