JayBird reveals JB-200 Bluetooth Stereo Headset
Chances are, that JB-100 you picked up 'round Christmastime last year isn't even broken in yet, but JayBird's already launching the aforesaid device's proper successor. The just-introduced JB-200 features complete AVRCP music / call controls, an improved fit (25-percent narrower ear-tip), better sound isolation, higher-grade silicon tips, boosted bass performance and a 1-inch longer behind-the-neck cord. For those rolling without an A2DP-capable handset / handheld, the company still offers up its Bluetooth Adapter for iPod or the Bluetooth adapter for MP3, the latter of which functions with practically any DAP or PMP. You'll also get around 5.5-hours of music listening time, 6.5-hours of talk time and 110-hours in standby mode. The JB-200 should be shipping out as we speak for $129.99, but folks needing one of the previously mentioned adapters will be coughing up an extra $30.

I just got a huge craving for some crab claws.

Ouch, looks like someone was a little jealous of Motorola!
If only my lousy Sidekick LX would work with some of these things. Blagh. T-mobile.
Clinton @ Apr 21st 2008 2:46PM
they need to start creating these devices with bluetooth built in.
Judd @ Apr 21st 2008 8:32PM
Yeah Bluetooth in everything would rock. JayBird works with any device none-the-less. If no bluetooth, you can get the Jaybird bluetooth adapter.

Sweet... If only iPhone could handle this!!! Maybe the 2nd gen iPhone will (FINGERS CROSSED!!)
Judd @ Apr 21st 2008 8:17PM
The JayBird actually does work with iPhone for calls and music.

Those seems to be the perfect format. There is only 2 problem.
1. No standard usb rechargable. (You have to carry the charger. What if you loose it or brake it?) USB can be find or buy anywhere in any kind of format)
2. Just 5.5 hours Not enough for a standard day of work.
For now i am still using my old X5 from blueant.
Good sound
12 hours play
Recharge within 3 hours with USB
I would change for better sound isolation. Any suggestion!
Judd @ Apr 21st 2008 8:24PM
USB charging: The JayBird is truly the first water and sweat resistant headset on the market as far as I can tell. I've hear of a high number of returns on other brands but JayBird has not had any for malfunction due to sweat and water. The JayBird eliminates the typical USB charging point which uses exposes electronic devices to sweat and water.
5.5 hours music play time: The JayBird is the smallest STEREO headset on the market from what I've seen. It's designed for active lifestyle ... work outs and on the go. 5.5 hours is perfect for your daily work out and other times during the day.

nice try.
still too bulky.
the perfect bluetooth stereo headset is still out there somewhere.
Judd @ Apr 21st 2008 8:26PM
JayBird is the smallest stereo headset/headphones out there.

Looks like Judd needs some backup from a customer...
I own the JB-100's and they are awesome. I pair them 99% of the time with my VX8550 (Chocolate2) phone. The battery life is phenomenal, I have used them an entire day of snowboarding and they didn't die. They never fell off either, even in situations where I fell 10-15ft in the air.
I used to own the Moto S9's and they weren't "beanie compliant" for the cold weather months because they stick out quite a bit beyond the ear, but the JB's really are small and weightless. The S9's also bounce a little bit where the bulky battery pack is behind the neck if you jog at all.
I have only 3 minor complaints concerning the JB-100's: lack of playback controls (at least a mute/pause button), they could be a little louder (the campus busses always win the loudness battle), and the rubber ear tips fall off sometimes (I now only have 1 of each of the 2 sizes). Just for the playback controls alone, I wish I could make a swap for the 200's.

Is A2DP "there" yet? Last I heard, support was terrible- how does it sound connected to a mac running Leopard, for instance?
Is it possible that A2DP support might be added in the next iPhone firmware?
lars @ Apr 21st 2008 3:36PM
Does Mac OS X even support A2DP? Last I tried with my colleagues MBP it didn't. Of course it works flawlessly on windows (most of the time - I've seen a machine that required you to stop a bluetooth service)...
Simon @ Apr 21st 2008 3:47PM
A2DP is pretty good, my k800i and A2DP car stereo work seamlessly...
till I bought an iPhone which doesn't support A2DP :(
Neoprimal @ Apr 21st 2008 5:29PM
For the most part A2DP is fine....but you have to be careful. Some A2DP profiled Headphones/Headsets put out the sound from phonecalls into one ear. For ex. I got a set of Moto S9 headphones for the gym and general use. I'm a cap person, so they generally don't show or look like these do, in-ear is all you see or nothing at all if you're not detailed. Anyway, they're great for music from your phone or PC or whatever bluetooth a2dp capable device but for some reason, Moto saw fit to stream calls only to one side which I absolutely hate. There's no reason to do that. On the other hand, I recently got a pair of Dell BH200 BT earphones and they're incredible...they do everything the S9 does which are pretty dif. features to find in general - they pause your music to take calls, at which point all controls turn into phone controls, so from pause/play, last/next to talk, end so on and so forth AND the Dell headphone actually stream your call to both sides...whether through joint mono or stereo, I don't know (I assume joint mono), it sounds tons better and I find a better evolution in bluetooth headphones - you have 2 sides, use them!
Hopefully these earphones stream calls to both sides as well, otherwise there's not much to justify buying them.
Judd @ Apr 21st 2008 8:29PM
Yes A2DP is great on the JB-200. I have one. I also use a MacBook Pro and the AD2DP in Leopard works really well the with JB-200. I'm using the JB-200 for Skype and listening to iTunes on a daily basis. I love it!!

Bluetooth is nice, but with earphones, I'd prefer not to have to deal with an adapter or battery life.

Good deal! I've been looking into doing bluetooth headphones for the past three months or so. I've been looking toward just picking up some cheap Insignia (Best Buy's store brand) headphones and an adapter from Motorola. I heard poor things about the Motorola adapter, so I waited.
These things are pretty dang nice. 5.5 hours of listening time is plenty for me. Wires aren't THAT big of a deal to me, but having the freedom of not having any bouncing around the front of my shirt would be so nice.
$170.xx with shipping for the JB-200 & Apple iPod adapter.... pretty neat.

I'll be getting my JB-200's on the 28th. I had the JB-100's and liked them. Very secure, good battery life, ok sound. I'm not an audiophile, so the sound was more than adequate for me.
The JB-200's should perform much much better with the changes they made.
Are they for everyone? Probably not. The JB-100's weren't the best at call quality and sometimes the fit with the speaker was quirky to get "just right". But for those of us that run or work out, they're GREAT!! The S9's were too bulky and didn't fit well. I also wasn't going to be caught dead walking around looking like Princess Leia using some of the other BT stereo sets. So for what's out there right now, they appear to be the best.
I'm just excited to actually see how the changes have improved an already good device.
Stephen @ Apr 22nd 2008 3:09PM
So I am confused, do these work with the iPhone natively? (No adapter)
jakep_82 @ Apr 23rd 2008 1:15PM
I just got these a couple days ago and I'll definitely be returning them to the store. I've spent hours trying to get the fit right and they simply aren't comfortable. They also don't stay in place when I'm working out and the control buttons are horrible. They're tiny and require way to much effort to press.
Victoria @ Apr 24th 2008 7:58AM
I use bluetooth to run and workout so I don't have to have the ipod on my body. I've been using Wi-Gear Imuff for over a year now. They are great, except that the ear cushion get wet from sweating when I'm working out. Very uncomfortable. The Imuffs were great with mycomputer, ipod and cell phone.
Most users comment on both my pros and cons with the Jay Bird.
Pros
-Small and compact
-Elegant style and Design
Cons
-No standard USB so you have to carry the charging cable (bulky) with you.
-Missing play/pause & rew/ff buttons
-Not a great fit for females who tend to have smaller ears. When I get the earphone to clip properly to my ears, the ear buds don't fit into my ears. When I try fit the ear buds in my ears, the headphone don't clip properly to my ears and fall off.
I will definitely being returning this product.
Don @ Apr 24th 2008 11:27PM
Do you have the JB-100 or JB-200?
The JB-200's have made some changes that might address your problems. You can return them within 30 days and get the JB-200's.
Don @ Apr 24th 2008 11:38PM
Just received my JB-200's today. After charging them for about an hour, I gave them a whirl.
The changes from the JB-100's are VERY noticeable. The fit is much better with the smaller driver and longer ear tip. The bass response and overall volume are also greatly improved. I was able to go into a room with 4 30 ton HVAC units running and could barely make out the noise.
The AVRCP controls work great, although a little hard to press at first. I'm sure they will loosen up with use.
The call quality was improved as well. Not "perfect", but that's not why I got these. That's a side benefit as far as I'm concerned. It paired very easily with my XV6800 and I was able to use both hands free and BT stereo no problem.
BT range and performance were great also. I was able to move about 35-40 ft. away without dropping.
I have both BT adapters (iPod and mp3). Both were very easy to pair. The iPod one only requires you to plug it into your iPod and start playing. The headset will automatically pair. The mp3 one you just turn on. When the headset sees it, they pair together. Couldn't be simpler!!!!
All in all, the changes from the JB-100 makes these a keeper for me!!! If you're looking for a set of compact BT headphone give them a shot. Their return policy is great, plus they've started selling them at Target!
david amodt @ May 10th 2008 10:03PM
just picked them up at target yesterday, had 2 left. they are awesome. synced up within seconds with my macbook pro and in great stereo sound. just what i wanted...
