Spectec microSD WiFi card: loose in May, lose in July
Announced way back in 2006, we've yet to see the production launch of Spectec's microSD card with built-in 802.11b/g WiFi. Although late, it's still a boon for those of us running WiFi-less HTC Touch Duals, for example. Unfortunately, without any mentioned storage in the specs, you'll be doing a lot of microSD card swapping (and losing) when it ships in May for sampling and then to consumers in July.[Via PhoneNews]

A MicroSD w/o memory: what a shame!
indeed, if it had memory, i would jump on it
...what, you mean that loose and lose are two different words? Who would've known?
So basically using this to download stuff on your PDA is out of the question?
No, but only stuff onto the built-in memory
Wow. Add Symbian support and I'm sold.
I second that
I have Spectec MiniSD card for my Moto Q. I have no real problem with it replacing the memory card, but it sticks out of the slot, making it inconvenient to be carried there all the time. Therefore, its use is very topic: put it just when I need it, then take it out.
Judging from the photo this one is regular sized ;)
Support for non WiFi enabled Blackberry devices would be amazing!
So could you use one of these cards with something like the BlackJack (one) ? Is there an OS dependancy ?
I hope it would work with my.... OH, NVM, I'm using a sony camera that uses FREAKEN MEMORY STICKS!! GOD SONY!
there exist microsd->memory stick adapters
Can this *thing* be used in mobile phones having a MicroSD slot?
Will this work for Windows Mobile devices? I'd love to have wifi in my blackjack I (though I'm doubting it would have support).
It says on the linked site:
OS Support: Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition (Pocket PC 2003 SE)
Windows Mobile 5.0 / 6.0 for PDA/Smartphone
It looks like no crack berry's for now, its too bad because I have a pearl and I was little pumped for this thing. I may have to switch to a blackjack II.
Once this gets BlackBerry support, I'm sold.
Hopefully the wait isn't long.
Anyone have a price point for this thing? I'd like to see it for
This is already available for sale on the telusmobility website for $69.99 as an accessory

@David:
"This is already available for sale on the telusmobility website for $69.99 as an accessory"
That's an SD card - not SDMicro.
Any chance this thing would work with my Palm Centro?
This is great progress, but without being able to insert memory storage into the device simultaneously, it's not of much use. No one wants to swap cards in and out. We did that years ago and people are done with that.
Add in 4GB of memory (2GB isn't enough), and these things would sell like crazy. That would be a lot to integrate into a card that small, but until our devices come with dual microSD slots (which they should), it's the only thing that would make something like this truly practical.
I'd love to have WiFi and 4GB simultaneously in my Blackjack II.
Will this work for K850i?
I hope it does.
I just found out you can buy an external GPS module from SE for this phone.
the os dependency is windows mobile and that accessory for sale that someone posted earlier for 69.99 was a miniSD wifi card. I agree that if they sold this with 4gb memory included people would spend quite a bit of money on it just for the convenience.
If anyone was wondering (like I was), I received an email back from Spectec confirming that the microsd wifi card will not work with the Cingular 3125 card slot. The 3125 doesn't support SDIO. Too bad. would have been great!
She further verified that ...."For marketing strategy and some technical issues, the product will be held
until early June instead, plus one month for certificate, you will find it
in market on end of July...."
