Zune getting Audible
No, not audible as in the ability to be heard from beneath the strain of a million screeching iPod fanboys. Rather, the Microsoft Zune is about to be Audible book capable. At least if you believe Paul Thurrott (which we do) and others who have received confirmation from [Via ZuneBoards]

Amen brother. Love my Zune, hate its crappy software.
The rationale for not using WMP was supposed to be so the Zune team could update and improve and not be tied to WMP slow product cycle.
At this rate well see WMP 12 before we see real Zune software worthy of the device.
If you use windows media player you can put your subscription music on you WinMo device. I do it all the time with my Tilt.
Sweet I love Audible, but hate that I can't just throw my books onto the Zune without first trying to convert it to CD then to MP3
Whats a zune again?
Silence.
Just want y'all to know that 'Sy' and I are not the same person.
good thing its already fm radio ready
LOL WUTS A MAC?
A Personal Computer.
I'm really interested to see how Zune combats other mp3 players in the market. (The FIRST thing they need to do is add a very well-integrated Mac support, imo. Then bump up their advertising, since so many people loved the ads they released last year.) They've been doing an OK job, so far: Zune isn't the Whipping Boy it was in 2006. Granted, it's only been out 1 1/2 years, so it still could either plummet or fly... especially if they limit the device.
The marketing is interesting, though: It's not as mainstream as the iPod, but not very "faux indie" either - somewhere in the middle. Metaphor: Whereas iPods are the Walmart/Virgin Megastores of music; the Zune is making an attempt to be the Amoeba Records. (Zune/iPods are a bit too corporate to be your home-grown local record store.) It shows as iPods use U2, Feist and Black Eye Peas in their commercials when Zune uses The Shins, Rogue Wave and Hot Chip. However, mainstream sells way more.
They've also built an interesting image in that most (Mac-using... hint hint) designers/animators I work with would give their left arm to work on a Zune Arts project. You'd be surprised how much those Arts videos are passed around motion graphics and animation studios!
Hmm... oh wait, I'm supposed ot be talking about Audible, not pondering their advertising! Sorry, obviously I work in marketing. :)
I don't get the 'Zune needs Mac support ASAP' bit. How many Mac owners would choose a Zune over an iPod? That's a small segment of an already small segment of the market I think.
What the Zune needs is good PC support. Why can't I sort my effing playlist by artist in the software? I love the hardware...LOVE it. The UI on the device is even pretty good. The PC software leaves a bit to be desired, though.
I wouldn't get to excited, I had an audible account and bought hundreds of dollars in books. I had the books loaded on itunes so I could play them on my ipod, all was well as long as I had the audible account. After I canceled the account and tried to use the books on itunes, apple wouldn't let me load the books back on my ipod. Even though I had paid for every book, itunes said because I no longer had a audible account that I could no longer run the books on my ipod. So the 500.00 I spent on books was wasted unless I wanted to spend 20.00 a month to keep my audible account current . So zune owners just make sure you know what your getting yourself into before buying a book through audible.

You know, I've never seen a Zune out in captivity...anywhere. It can't have that large of a market share. I may know what a Zune is, but if you mention it off-handedly, I wouldn't know what you were talking about at first.
I don't know enough to comment on the Zune, but go ahead and vote against me anyway. For until I see one behind that little plexiglass display, I'll never see a Zune. I will see an iPod on ten different occassion tomorrow, not including my own.
Still its nice the Zoone...oops Zune...is finally getting a service the iPod has had for years.
"Before years end"? That sounds like a pretty uncertain time to me. Who knows when people will stop counting years?
Embrace the apostrophe!
Gee, the latest firmware update for the Haier ibiza Rhapsody supports Audible, TODAY.
i work with audible, and hopefully in the future it will be compatible
