Dell unveils tiny bamboo-cased eco-computer concept
Michael Dell spoke at Fortune's Brainstorm:Green conference today, and he took the wraps off this funky bamboo-encased eco-PC concept. Said to be Dell's smallest-ever computer, the machine is 81 percent smaller than a standard desktop and uses 70 percent less power. There's no word on what's inside yet, but Dell says the machine is due to be released later this year, and should cost between $500 and $700. Hit the read link for a couple more shots, and check out a render after the break.

People are already recycling the cases. See here: http://omgwtf.superlime.com/computer_parts8.jpg
I'm an ardent Apple fan, but I think this looks pretty neat. This is the exact opposite in terms of awesomeness of that Fujitsu all in one that was featured earlier.
I'd be up for this. I'm looking for a small quiet pc for the living room. I was thinking about getting an eee desktop when it comes out depending on the specs. I'll have to compare.
If Dell offers it with Linux I'm game.
And when this computer finally comes out later this year, Michael Dell's company is going to be worth about the $500-700 this computer is going to cost.
still worth more than you and your comments
re cables: check the picture - its all wireless, including power, and wireless connections/power to the monitor as well. Brilliant- how do they do it!
umm please say sarcasm, please say sarcasm, please?
Its an illusion. They are using white wires.
wireless power?
lol. not yet mate
2008 is good time for PC buyers.
EE laptops and now the offering of both an EE desktop and this Dell. I cant wait til later this year when I'll finally be able to purchase something like this.
Finally. This is exactly what Dell needs to produce to get back in the game. Attractive, affordable, and unique- that's what sells computers in the mainstream these days.
I wonder if the 10k workers let go by Dell this year are super psyched to see Dell pretending to be earth-friendly. And, yes, both the PCs on this page look almost exactly like Apple products. I'm a Dell owner and I'm basically being told by Dell that I made the wrong choice, and should have just gone to the source instead of this constant supply of knock-offs. When are they shutting this all down and giving us the money back?
WTF? It is small = it is a mac ripoff? Well, I guess my tower computer is a Mac Pro ripoff! It is a rectangular prism with optical drives on the top of the front! MAC RIPOFF!
This thing will be green when they learn how to make a circuit board out of bamboo.
It looks ugly.
Anybody else just see a giant fig newton?
Wow, a new cool little computer to run a sorry OS.
This might be my first HTPC...
I honestly thought it was a wooden Xbox 360 casing the moment I saw the picture... had that thought for half a second 'til I saw the title of the article.
Has anyone considered the Pandas? Eco friendly my ass!
@ Ian
I'm sorry, I thought anyone with taste could see the mac mini is sleek, small and has an aluminum enclosure. Do you have the gift of sight?
BTW, I didn't say anything about specs, I said its better looking. I didn't say anything about resources. Even you can follow a simple statement.
Goddamn. Can we all just take a minute to think a little before posting the first snarky comment that comes to mind? Seriously guys...
IDEA COPIED FROM ASUS!!!
Yea~
Let's cut down more tree to creat green PCs.
It is green, so it must be good.
green computers are good, but green computing behaviors are even more important. if you don't shut down at night, you waste as much energy as keeping 10 light bulbs on!! I learned a lot about green computing at www.shutdownandprotect.com
