DIYer crafts Victorian-style all-in-one PC
It's getting tough for steampunk fans to out-do one another these days, but DIYer Jake von Slatt has taken a solid shot at the crown with his latest creation, which one-ups most of the competition by going the all-in-one route. Of course, the fact that added thickness only adds extra character in this case makes things slightly easier but, as you can see in the fairly thorough how-to linked below, it's still not something to be attempted lightly, with it even including a nail-biting encounter of a monitor with a table saw. Click on through for a video of that, and plenty more pictures of the entire process.

but why?
kuz its awesome DUH!!!!
Its arty...
And sooooo ugly I want to cry!
Because they can...
Yeah, but... does it play d.. Crysis?
No, but it plays DOOM!!!
*Weeps*
For the people with a Victorian style house. Who has those?
I believe Andrew Ryan has one..
ughh.. Unfortunately my sister-in-law does.
It is fantastic work. It's the baroque end of Victorian design - influenced by French Imperial I think. A bit over the top for my taste, but still amazing. I love Victorian design. I'm currently renting a Victorian town house, with large arched doorways and windows, and 12-14 foot high ceilings. Wonderful feeling of space, and with the use of ceiling fans, I don't seem to need the air conditioner.

A serious actual question:
Do people actually use these, or do they have another computer that they use regularly?
I know I would keep mine on display, so I don't ruin it. It looks pretty fragile too (the keyboard).
If I ever own a zeppelin company I'm getting one of those for my HQ.
Those keyboards are actually extremely sturdy. He's made them before on their own, and he uses old IBM PS/2 warhorse keyboards as the base, and builds them out of machined metal pieces.
Sell it to the Queen!
I knew I had seen that keyboard before..

This computer will perfectly blend in my rococo style furniture and velvety red silk rose patterned wallpaper. I want one.
Henrietta von trotta the third.
Thats nice work!
How long before the obligatory "iMac ripoff" comment?
I was thinking the exact same thing.
actually, you were the first. nicely done.
That is hideous beyond belief - I would rather have a hello kitty pc than that monster!!!
Haha, awesome.
its a good victorian styling.
for the keyboard.
the monitor is not great.
thats fucking ugly, this is the 21st century not the 15th century people.
I hate antiques, but would love to have one of these.
Sorry, had to do this, but 15th century!!! Push it up a bit 16th,17th,18th ... 19th!
There you go, just don't go time travelling looking for old Queen Vic in the 15th century!
However, if you do and you wait around a wee bit, you might be able to get in touch with Elizabeth I.
BTW thats an iMac ripoff, sue them Apple!!!!!!
Please...
Awesome. Now all I need is a chateau, a slew of butlers and maids, and loads of cash. I'd hate to see this thing in a typical office setting.
The perfect tool if you want to challenge someone on Myspace to a duel.
I love steampunk re-toolings like this. I'd have a house full of them... if I didn't have the artistic skill of a newt.
I. Want. One.
Only with a Freud blade.
A) Victorian/Edwardian is 19th through early 20th century, not the "15th" century.
B) That computer is awesome. 21st century tech with a 19th century look and feel. Of course, I am a little biased, since I like steampunk. Or at least, I kinda do... along with future fantasy, low fantasy, etc. etc. (and I'm sure ya'll don't really care that much anyway).
I just thought up what a cool speaker setup should be for these:
Dual miniature audio frequency modulated tesla coils.
You can't get any more steampunk then to make your sound from lightening.
Where do i Purchase the barebones, the wife may let me have a computer somewhere other then my cave
Easier thing to do is make the rest of the house look like your cave ;)
ummm try Rococo style.... so not victorian! 1700's
"added thickness only adds extra character in this case"
Oh, how true that is... :)
