Electric Motion Systems E+ electric bike: $3,495 for two wheels
Believe it or not, Electric Motion Systems' E+ actually isn't the priciest electric bicycle we've ever seen, but at $3,495 sans chauffeur, it's a far cry from being a bargain. Aside from boasting a relatively traditional frame, the unit gets powered by an EMS 1000-watt hub-mounted, brushless permanent magnet motor, which should provide 20 to 40 miles of fun on a single charge. Proving its intelligence, the E+ also supports regenerative braking, which enables the battery to get charged each time the rider slams the stoppers. You'll also find a handlebar-mounted LCD display which shows speed, distance traversed, battery level and whether or not cruise control is enabled. Yeah. Cruise control, son. Suddenly, $3,495 seems quite reasonable, no?

xtracycle looks ughlee.
e+ is worth it
Also, it's not summer all year long, except maybe here in Houston, Texas. If you can use a bike or ebike during the 20% of the year that weather is fantastic and ideal, you've just cut that much mileage off of your car. If you can commute >30% of the time, say in a city like San Diego, well even better. Let's not talk about why we can't, let's think about how we could.
from their site: "Vehicle Range: Electric power only: 20 miles on a single charge; with moderate pedaling: 40+ miles"
Ok. MODERATE PEDALING??? What does this stupid bohemoth weigh? 60lbs, 70... 100? Come on, the idea behind bikes is to excersise not have a heart attack trying to pedal home when the batteries die or get shorted out rolling through a puddle or the rain!
I wonder how much the 2-seater tandem version will cost?
I don't know anything about the market for e-bikes, but it's hard to imagine they'll sell many of these at that price.
I got my Charger bicycle (variable power assist, so it's not quite a scooter) for $750 plus shipping. I believe the original manufacturer went out of business when they couldn't sell them at $1,500.
(I'm not fat and only a little bit lazy; I just don't like to sweat on my way to work.)
Arriving to work without being all sweaty is one of the reasons I love my e-bike.
Of course, I got laid off in January, but when I do get another job I'll be happy to arrive to work without being all exhausted and smelly, and without spending $4 a gallon.
While cooler than a segway still largely pointless for my uses. perhaps it would be better for someone riding to work so they don't get a sweaty. Bah, I'll still pay my money for fuel and give plants something to breath.
you can get a honda CBR125R for less than that. (its a canada and europe thing, honda doesn't want to give it you americans yet) and it gets like 92mpg passing euro 3 emissions
See my manifesto above for why an e-bike is better than a motor scooter.
Damn. Mine was like 3k and doesn't even have an electric motor! But then again, my commute is 30 miles, so this bike may or may not make it on a single charge.
GAY GAY GAY!!
I have no idea how these are compared to the E+, but, heck, it looks like even the bike with shaft drive costs $1000 less and it claims to have a 50% to 200% farther range. If anyone knows if this is crap or not, let us know.

I can't find any dealers close by with the schwinn electric bikes. Its really frustrating.
This co is backed by the same delusional crook that drove WaveCrest into the ground a few years ago. This fool had the bike on the market for a couple of years and didn't sell enough units at $2,500 ea to pay for the phone call to order the bike pedals from China.
Maybe so. I sell an electric kit depending on what you want for $400.00 to $600.00. This doesn't have the regenertive but how much do you actually recharge when you just have the brakes on? You can buy a decent bike at Target for $ 200.00 or less.
Now, tops you would have $800.00 invested. A savings of $2,700.00
Up to 20 miles between charges
Approx 20 Miles per hr
You could buy three of these and put $300.00 back in your pocket.
Without the bells and whistles, what do you think?
