Uno electric unicycle gets spiffy new body, still terrifying
Last we saw the Uno electric unicycle it was looking very much like the prototype it was, but as you can see above, it seems that the teenage engineers behind it have been doing anything but slacking in the ensuing months. As Motorcycle Mojo reports, the third incarnation of the vehicle recently made its debut at the 2008 National Motorcycle Show in Toronto, with it sporting some custom-made wheels, a stylin' new body, and a few changes under the hood as well. That latter bit apparently even included a trip to a robotics and gyro expert in California, who helped to fine tune the two gyros the Uno uses for turning and forward and backward motion (something you probably want to get right). There's still no word as to when or if the vehicle might actually enter production, however, but you can at least now get a great look at it courtesy of the generous batch of pics Motorcycle Mojo has provided at the link below.

Just how many flys do you have?
most motor cycle accidents are by idiots who don't know hot to ridecutting in front of cars
@conor:
That's not true at all. Most motorcycle accidents are caused by other vehicle drivers not seeing the cyclist.
lets send bush one of these
Way to go something thats interesting and creative in the open wheel world. Very cool guys!
Id get one
Just how many flys do you have?
That was supposed at be @ w00t
Do you think he got the idea after watching the south park episode of "the it machine" lol. i kid i kid
I would think they would limit the speed to scooter speed. They have much smaller tires with horrible breaks and weigh more then this. I guess will see in due time. Would be great for people in the city that want to get ran over by taxicabs :)
Been a while since I was in school, but if I recall correctly unicycles only have 1 wheel.
Its like doing a perpetual wheelie!!!!!!!!!
hehe
look at the front...
it's like some kind of drop jaw expression.. or a fish...
KANEDA!!!!!!
TETSUO!!!!!!
I bet you're thinking Venus Wars =] I scoured these comments looking for a monobiker reference but I guess I'm the first!
AKIRA is a myth!
The first article (link in the description) contained pictures of the inventors.
Sadly, this picture only contains the Uno....neither of the poor inventors have survived development/testing to pose with their creation...RIP!
Looks amazing!
Shouldn't it technically be called the "Dos?"
the read link isnt working..
Mmmmm . . . . balanced lamb. . . .
So, no references to the uni-motorcycle ridden by Lunch that appeared in the original Dragonball?
This is so cool.
I am putting ALL of my pink tazer guns on ebay so I can get one of these.
Can it carry a spare tire?? (maybe in a fork at the front of the bike touching the ground??)
but that would defeat the purpose (and the center of gravity) of death on one motorized wheel.
Is that a cat on your shoulder?
Reminds me of the monocycle the female vampire hunter rode in Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust.
I want one, but then again the Riot Wheel also fascinates me.
Wow,ok this seriously reminds me of a poke'mon, does it not?
I LOVE seeing this sort of thing. It's like everyone is finally getting around to making the Buck Rogers future of Tomorrow Today that we grew up wishing for, but which got waylaid during the 70's, 80's, and 90's.
Basically it's badass Segway. And about time too - all that standing up was wearing me out. Under the seat are a a stack of bandages, and IV drip.
(yawn) this one's better -

It's a screaming face!
If the Segway looked like this then maybe it wouldn't have been a total failure. Sure it doesn't look extrememly safe but I would imagine you wouldn't look like a complete idiot on it.
If they ever put it into production I'm sure bombardier will sue them. http://www.forbes.com/2003/11/04/cx_dl_1104vow.html
Hmmm This reminds me of the Bombadier Embrio concept that was introduced a while back.
It has gyroscopes, so tipping over is not so easy. Yes, a gyro failure is a BIG problem, but no, it's not likely at all. Simliar to saying that we shoudn't use helicopters because if either propeller stops turning at a bad time, you can die.
Second, I'd own one in a heartbeat, but it has to go faster than 40 MPH. It has to go 80 MPH because I'm going to drive 70 MPH on the freeway and I don't want to drive at absolute maximum possible vehicle speed (for durability reasons).
Third, this will get twice the milage of a motorcycle, because it has half the rolling friciton and significantly less weight. I don't know if motorcycle riders are mad about the increase in gasoline prices, but if they are, this is the future.
Fourth, you can do the same thing but make the wheel a LOT bigger and sit inside it while it turns. Called a "monowheel" and it's the future of ground transportation.
Thanks for sharing this information!
I believe that scooters are one answer to the growing problem of pollution and global warming! They are perfect for commuting within a city, or for any short trip.
I also have a website about scooters that you may wish to check out. Feel free to visit at: http://www.electricscooteroutlet.com
Thanks again!
This thing looks better than a Segway, but will it sell?
We need a video. I want to see this thing in action.
Now if it could only follow you around carrying your gear...
Speaking as someone who has been riding for over 20 years... No effing way could you get me to ride that thing. And I wouldn't recomend anyone ride it faster than they would want to smash their face into the ground. Period.
Mountain Unicycling, when I first 'eared of it, seemed equivalently bosh.
Both rock!

Somehow, I imagine that being a real pain in the ass.
I want a video of this, to see how it works, rather than just saying. I think it's awesome.
And the real fucking question that we all should be asking,
Can it Pop a fucking Willy!?!
anyone remember the japanese anime Venus Wars. They were unicycle racers
based off of the frame design of a Yamaha R6 sport bike ?
with computers and servos controlling a REAL Yamaha R6 engine,
this would be truly frightful. 0-100mph in first gear ?
Check out our electric self balancing unicycle video:

What do you think?
