Goldmund's $300,000 Epilogue Speaker System joins Media Room
Personally, we can only imagine what a $300,000 speaker setup sounds like. But you -- we know you're eager to pick up the Epilogue Speaker System (previous edition shown) and rub it in the faces of everyone else, right? Regardless of whether you answered that truthfully or not, Goldmund (those same cats who actually had the nerve to create a $17,000 Blu-ray player) has introduced the latest version of the aforesaid system, which will now be built specifically for integration into the Goldmund Media Room. Pretty though they may be, we have a sneaking suspicion you won't be getting much bang for your buck with these -- but then again, what do our virgin ears know, anyway?

Don't take this the wrong way Goldmund, but I'd rather buy a house.
Zac Reid @ Apr 30th 2008 8:28PM
Don't you hit a wall as far as sound quality goes at say....$100,000?
These are some nice speakers. For me to poop on.
RandyFD @ Apr 30th 2008 8:39PM
Dude, you must have a REALLY expensive toilet

You do not need to spend more than $10,000 on decent speakers. Those who do spend that much are not necessarily getting better sound. Here are two great examples of what I mean-
Axiom, Check out their 7.4 set complete with four of their legendary subwoofers.

Spending exorbitant amounts of money on audio equipment is for fools.

Hey, Goldmund makes some very impressive stuff. A lot of money goes into R&D, costs to build the product and this is for the few that can afford and justify spending $300K on a pair of speakers. I know the old saying, if you can't afford, don't ask. When you get into this level of audio, it costs money. Personally, I would just go with a full Meridian system and save some money. Goldmund is just one of those companies that make exclusive products and that's just the way it is. they probably sell every single pair they make. Just like the Bugatti Veyron are back ordered. Does it make sense to drive a car worth $1.5 Million? NO. But what they heck, people buy this stuff and they can justify it. How? I don't know. I think it's ridiculous too, but what the heck, people buy expensive, well made audio products and they listening experience is different. Personally, I think anyone that listens to music should always listen to high end systems just for the experience and then buy whatever they can afford and justify.
Paulmichael @ Apr 30th 2008 8:50PM
Ugh, if they look anything like what those older models pictured here look like... I'd need something that looks more sophisticated at that price point.
SpicyPotato @ Apr 30th 2008 9:07PM
This is just for people who like showing off more than listening.
Jesse S @ Apr 30th 2008 9:12PM
As an audiophile, I will say this:
Goldmund is pure bullshit. Their $14,000 dvd player is a recased $100 pioneer one.
austin @ Apr 30th 2008 9:40PM
as an audiophile....dvd player.
?
Josh Warner @ Apr 30th 2008 10:02PM
Ever heard of DVD-Audio or SACD, austin?
BK @ Apr 30th 2008 11:07PM
You're about as much an audiophile as I am a rocket scientist.
sinai @ Apr 30th 2008 11:39PM
you mean, "i like to pretend to be one because i think it gets all the girls, but for some reason, they find me boring, useless and nerdy"?
Jesse S @ May 1st 2008 12:43AM
I'm not saying that I'm a golden ear or some shit.
My headphones were $50, and they supposidly rival headphones costing over $1000. I built my DAC for pennies on the dollar. I built my headphone amp for even less.
I listen to FLAC at home (for archival purposes, not SQ) and v0 MP3 on the road. I can't tell the difference, even with the home setup.
I made all of my cables out of simple copper wire and cheap connectors. Except for the spdif cable, I used the spec belden cable (75 ohms or something) for that.
Dude @ May 17th 2008 3:12PM
I don't think that is truthful statement. Goldmund may use the same transport as the high end Pioneer player, but the power supply, processing, enclosure is not the same.
As for ToAsTy; I would rather purchase MIT Oracle cables for these. transparent are just expensive lower grade imitations of MIT. :-)
Personally, for less than $300K, I would get Meridian 800 series processor, DVD player, DSP 8000's for front, center and rear channels, a couple of Meridian subs and save some money for the projection system. :-)
Richard Lai @ Apr 30th 2008 9:21PM
The design looks good, but now we'll need to sample the sound...
Tim @ Apr 30th 2008 9:28PM
i would think the virginity of your ears would go without saying - another reason i'm glad i'm not an audiophile
Tina Darby @ Apr 30th 2008 9:30PM
Hmmmm, spend $300k to listen to my Peter Gabriel CD collection? Or, use that money to buy 750 iPhones? hmmmm
Jonathan-DBOSS @ Apr 30th 2008 9:42PM
Hope it blows my neighbors away.
Jeremy K. @ Apr 30th 2008 9:48PM
heck, for $300,000 it should blow me.

"Hey honey! I just paid the last mortgage payment on those speakers!"
asha @ Apr 30th 2008 9:50PM
If you have $300,000 to spend on a set of speakers, then you have too much money and should probably have some of it taken away from you.
Eric @ May 1st 2008 12:29AM
I hope that some day you can afford these speakers. When that day comes, I hope you remember your comment.
Asha @ May 1st 2008 12:41AM
Hey, Eric . . . I can assure you that, even if I get that kind of money, I wouldn't waste it on something as ridiculous as this.
If I had $300,000 that I could actually justify throwing it like that, I'd make sure to donate it all to a charity instead and then go down to Futureshop for something that'd do just as good of a job without costing as much as a Ferrari.
Tyler @ May 1st 2008 4:33AM
Then why not just donate what you do have right now? No one starts donating more money just because they have more. Everyone, statistically, donates exactly the same percentage. So, and this is a wild guess here, I'm doubting the red cross is going to see much of your $300,000 windfall.
Odimerus @ Apr 30th 2008 9:52PM
These guys are geniuses. They probably take $1000 speakers and sell them to rich stupid people who think they have to have the most expensive speakers around(ie rap stars). Even if they only sell a couple, they still make a quite a bit.
Josh Warner @ Apr 30th 2008 10:05PM
Wow, that's exactly the Bose model! Doesn't Bose have a business methods patent on 'selling $50 speakers for $2000+ by taking advantage of the higher-price-it-must-be-better mindset' yet? A patent infringement suit would be hilarious to watch. I'd bring popcorn.
Ty @ Apr 30th 2008 10:04PM
I want to see a picture of these hooked up to an iPod.
thiel @ May 1st 2008 7:04PM
Actually a modded iPod with lossless files is pretty good.
Griever92 @ Apr 30th 2008 10:38PM
Can I mount 4 speakers in a pattern and sell them for $300,000 too?
Asha @ May 1st 2008 1:04AM
No!! Ask $400,000 for them. That would make them clearly 'superior' to these speakers.
Maybe offer a package deal where, for $100,000 more, you'll include a 'superior' blu-ray player which has been 'harmonically aligned' with the speakers.
Bob Atkinson @ Apr 30th 2008 11:27PM
What sort of IDIOT would buy a cabinet-based speaker system for $300 grand ??? State of the art speaker systems have not used ancient box enclosures for over 25 years !!
I hope this is some sort of pathetic joke ...
sinai @ Apr 30th 2008 11:38PM
pssst, i got some gold plated coat hangars for you. a steal at $9,999!
Eric @ May 1st 2008 12:31AM
They are just the thing for improving your HDTV reception.
ToAsTy @ May 1st 2008 12:42AM
You need some $31k /each speaker cables to go along with those speakers, i think they come in 8 and 12 ft lengths.

agh! i'm now torn between purchasing a well crafted german automobile or a set of speaker cables...
can the cables provide me with a smooth ride down the autobahn at 160 kmph?
A Texan in Bavaria @ May 1st 2008 9:38AM
Psh... my much-abused 2001 Volvo S40 provides a smooth ride down the Autobahn at 160km/h - and has a resale value about 1/4 the price of one of these cables, leaving you enough money to buy a slightly less-exalted pair of cables and yet still scare the Schnitzel out of the old ladies hunched behind the wheels of their Mercedes E-Classes.
Kamz @ Aug 30th 2008 8:49AM
Am i can get them made in china for $25,000, why pay $300,000 lol...
