there u go josh http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/omarlboro/newegg.jpg
now that going off from the the 24 inch imac with the 2.8 ghz cpu
and no isight cam. so to make up for it i put a web cam and decided i put the 3 ghz cpu just to spit the diff i own macs and pc i wave no flags but yes mac coast more i don't y u r trying to arguing stuff like isight cams and other dumb shit like firm ware is just dumb
isght cams a apple brand who cares i can buy a more expensive cam if i want in fact i use my digital cam corder and it beat your i sight spec wise and that only coast 70 bucks
so go add that to the diff if u want but really man am haven't broke a thousand yet that imac run1799.00 at base level and the spec i have all ready beat it
sorry if there r typos i haven't slept in 30 something hours
1) the hard drive is to small
2) The LCD is not even in the same ballpark when it comes to quality. Quote me a S-IPS LCD next time.
3) No wireless
4) No firewire
5) No remote
6) No operating system
7) No software capable of anything like iLife
8) No speakers
9) No optical audio
My god. You really consider this to be a hardware match to a iMac? I am just going to stop pointing out the simple differences now...
wow your really stupid u actually want to consider ilife into the price well i guess your just a blind fanboy cuz i was just matching hardware
lcd is 1080p hd monitor i can paint apple logo on it if makes u feel better and the hard drive the same size look at the apple web site
ok add another 20 bucks for a nic card dude this matches the hardware spec of an imac and coast way les but if u wanna get pick add 150 for os and still well below an imac
that was just dumb to bring up ilife when asking for price diff between pc and mac hardware no remote and nic card omg both items in the pc world that coast less then 20 bucks still at no point in time is this any where near the price of an imac this pc actually has better stats considering i even added the high cpu at lowe price get over it mac coast more money i know i own 2 them
once again forgive spelling and typos i still haven't slept yet
WTF?
The monitor why you posted is a piece of shit. It's not an S-IPS LCD. All what 1080p means is that the resolution is 1920x1080, it's not an indication of the quality of the product. Do some research before you talk, you sound like an idiot. Most quality S-IPS LCD panels start at the ~$1,000 range. S-IPS LCD panels have the advantage of having the best colour for a non CRT screen (with the possible exception of OLEDs).
Next, to match the specs of an iMac, try using Montevina chips. Oh wait...they aren't available to consumers until June.
iLife is a very important point he brings up, it's one of the pieces of software which qualifies a mac to be superior than its windows counterpart; better bundled software. To get something comparable to iLife, you're looking at a good amount of cash.
Next, I would like to point out the example of the Mac Pro, which everyone generally bitches about also because of price. Two Intel Xeon X5460 Harpertowns. That's $2,490 for processors alone. The memory is quite expensive also; they are FB-DIMMs, which are far superior as they are more reliable and faster.
Now, to get an accurate hardware pricing, try using the same hardware with the processor and motherboard for starters; the iMac uses a laptop chipset.
Finally, I haven't slept for 48 hours, but my spelling hasn't degraded.
Awesome, thanks Engadget, I shall be ordering myself one of these.
Sad that the fans are so loud, I'm runnig ox86 10.5.2 on an Intel 915G motherboard with an old 3GHz P4 and i have to say it runs very well, i get full sytem profile results.
They should really be selling these with fan controllers in a spare drive bay no one wants a noisy computer.
if you download the .spx file, and look at the extensions, the one called "Don't Steal Mac OS X" is curiously missing…
I don't think that's an 8600gt. I'm pretty sure that the 8600gt doesn't have a VGA connection.
I know $700 is good deal for a computer that works. will you pay $700 for a computer that can't upgrade software?
i have the first gen intel imac and i've upgraded the hard drive to 500GB and the memory to 4GB. it already came with a great video card, and I have upgrade the OS from 10.4 to 10.5 and will continue to 10.6.
my $1299 iMac with 20" screen is still better deal than a $700 machine that can't upgrade .... LOL paper weight.
I have a problem with how prices are compared:
All I always see is just pure spec lists. Comparision by Hardware features.
Nobody takes into account why you have to pay a little more for Apple hardware. Here's a list to get it straight:
- Actual designers designing cases and everything about the machine.
Jonatahn Ive, anyone? Apple's computers look and work better thant any other computers. That costs money.
- High quality materials. Apple computers are always very quiet, very robust, very well made. That costs money.
- Very good service. Yes: you pay for that, too. When was the last time your Dell Genius Bar helped you out with your problems?
- The software: Mac OS and iLife licenses are always included in the price of the machine. And you can not value that enough in comparission to Windows. Everything is just well made.
- Always about the fastest machines in their class. Except for games and that DOESN'T count in the real world. Sorry. I like gaming, too, but: come on.
Example Mac mini:
Overprized: I think not. Sure there's other small computers in nearly similar sizes but:
- There cases are not that well made. They mostly haven't got a beautiful slot in. They aren't that quiet. They aren't that stable. You don't get anything near the service Apple offers. You don't get any OS and bundled software that comes near the user experiences a Mac's bundeld software offers.
The Mac mini is a wonderful Desktop computer that does everything the target customer need to do brillantly. The iMac even takes the computer away. How brilliant is that?
Yes, you have to pay for quality. Shock and horror.
This fake machine is the best proof.
And it shocks me that so many people just don't get that a computer is not a hardware feature list. Not anymore at last.
Let's be honest:
Most people here are crying out loud because they are gamers and the 999$ iMac should have a 8800 GTS or something.
Because when you do the math and check the prices for the components on the internet, 999$ for 20" tft, ram, hard drive, dvd burner don't costs 999$ ...
To bad you don't take into account what I said:
Custom components, high quality components, extrem good engineering and case design ... but im just repeating myself.
People: please start to think ... and get a better understanding of how everything works.
”Opening" Mac OS to other manufacturers would just be horrible. Look at Windows and Linux. If you care about software you got to make your own hardware.
Can you duel boot these things with Windows? I need that if I were to get a Mac.
I would rather build my own hackintosh for cheaper instead of buying from psystar :)
