Next-gen iPhone spotted in the wild?
Well here's an interesting one. French iPhone blog iPhon.fr got these pics from an anonymous and unverified source, and while there's no way of telling if the shots are legit, they certainly have a truthy ring to them. They follow what we know so far about the shape, size and color of the upcoming 3G iPhone, and while there's always the possibility of knockoff, a Photoshop job, or some other evil plot to mislead us, we're certainly not going to discount these shots entirely in the runup to iPhone's second coming.
Update: Some commenters have pointed out that the size and shape of this phone bares a striking resemblance to LG's Vu. As we said up above, we're not ruling out some handy editing work here.
[Thanks, Janvier]

I see no volume rocker, no sleep/wake button, and no slient switch. I'm calling bogus.
It's not the new iPhone its the iPhone from colorware PC. it's called the Stealth iPhone I believe.
Note- I'm just making a educated guess. there is no fact behind my opinion
No, it's not. THis is a different shape than the current iPhone
Poor poor plastics ...
News from French Blog?
WW I was started because of a French blog posting. Faire attention!
Wow! I can't believe how ready people are to accept a completely unverified photo of the supposed new iPhone. And from France!
Let me repeat the two most important words from that last paragraph.
COMPLETELY UNVERIFIED.
Use some common sense here folks.
1) I think Brickwood nailed it when they said it looks like the LG KG800. Check out photos for this phone and compare it yourself. Notice the subtle curve in the top and bottom. This doesn't match the current design of nice, flat sides, top and bottom and isn't consistent with any other iPod/iPhone designs.
2) Look at the scratches and crazing on the back. Do you know how hours of daily use and careless handling it would take to make a brand new anything look that traveled?
3) Finally, grab the picture and open it in Photoshop. I've been editing digital photos for 14 years. The pixel noise around the front button and the back logos is a dead giveaway.
This is the proverbial $3 bill.
Skepticism is your friend people. Just be patient and stop giving these hacks the bandwidth.
It would make a lot more sense for countries that actually have decent 3G coverage to get roaming prototypes of a 3G product than places that don't. But I like your "ONLY AMERICA TELLS THE TRUTH" ideology. It shows you for the arrogant arse you are and the cancer of the Apple fan community.
You need to calm down ssuk. Does your pussy hurt because he actually knows what he's talking about? Looks like you are disappointed you can't praise Steve for this one just yet...
@ssuk:
a) My comment about the photo originating on a French web site was not intended as American arrogance or through any hatred of France but, rather, because Apple is based in America, ergo it seems far less likely for the new iPhone to turn up there. I'm not familiar with Apple rolling out new products in foreign markets. If you have evidence of this, please let us all know.
b) How could you possibly know if I'm American or not? Your assumption and your response point to a pretty clear hatred of America and Americans, precisely the attitude you accuse me of.
c) Kiss my arse mate!
Purely for the sake of being a devils advocate, to answer point b, it is actually fairly easy to tell you live in America :)
It looks like cheap plastic. I prefer the current aesthetic.
Looks fake-alicious!
I'll give. That doesn't look half bad. Now the iPhone just needs to be able to go on a Pay As You Go sim without having to unlock the damn thing and Apple may have a sale.
this doesn't look good. Getting a shot of how your phone will look like after it's been obviously heavily handled and scratched is NOT appetizing. if it's the real deal, IPhone 1 looks a lot better. Bottom curve is very curious, makes it a mismatch on current docks unless there's an adapter. The first spy shot out there looked better, this really looks a lot cheaper. i pray this isn't it, but chances are i'm wrong... blackberry 9000, where are you??? (btw, i own an ipod touch because of the iphones inability to delete multiple messages initially... total inhibitor for business users)
was thinking the same thing, my money's on fake. seems the top looks an awful lot like a blackberry, and they have been talking about that touchscreen version.
The front looks like the top of a blackberry with the bottom of the iphone , and the back looks a bit too cheap to be touted as an iphone, apple wouldn't release something that non-shiny. There's most always some silver on apple products
Oh and his fingers are waaaaay too long, the length between the palm and first joints on my hand max at around 3cm, those look scarily long
It looks like a turd.
Fake.. used to generate web hits to the reporting website.
Great !
If this is the 3G iPhone then where is the front facing video calling camera??
The shadows at the bottom look like a poor photoshop... especially where the shadow on the hand meets the shadow on the table. Its close, but it just doesn't look natural.
I hope it's real. It's even uglier than the current one.
I cant really tell if this is real or not but if it is this really sucks for apple. They're know for keeping the best secrets? Although i do recall somewhere saying that the side buttons are going to be chrome/silver which i cannot even see side buttons on this one. also the apple logo does look a bit off but who knows.....i love my iphone its the most amazing device to come out yet especially since the customize beta 2.0 beta just came out a few days ago..... fricking amazing! when the second one does come out i am most def. selling this one a week previous and get more for it than i would after the second one comes out and use a cheap phone for a week......?
I call fake. That is the ugliest looking piece of cheap black plastic I've ever seen. Either that, or Johnny Ive is having a mid life crisis or some serious creative block.
Psshhh... Just another LG Prada clone...
I really hope this is nothing like what the real 3G iPhone ends up looking like. I have the current iPhone and I love the way it looks, I like the metal and the silver bezel and and all. The one in this picture looks like so many other phones out there. It looks cheap and palsticy. not at all like Apple.

That is a fake. Not only does it not have the design cues of an Apple product (the dimensions are all off), it is easy to see that it is a photoshop job.
The Apple logo's proportions are off. Look at it.
I think the first shot also shows a metallic back, and the light pattern on the back of this looks like the black has been slapped on in Photoshop.
I call fake.
The all black plastic iphone won't stay black for long.
I'm guessing that new single colour design means Apple are ready to move to different colours for the holiday season.
Really cool !
I call shenanigans.
Looks like it could be one of a dozen Chinese Knock offs, with a little photoshop tweaking. But has a striking similiararity to the LG Vu.
Anyone notice the Apple logo seems a bit compressed, it's normally taller, might be the crappy photograph though.
I really hope this isn't the new iPhone. It looks like it's made out of plastic. Would apple really use plastic?
That is an LG Vue, with an Iphone button stuck on it.
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=478589
definitely a fake
the new iphone is ugly....
Next gen iPhone video maybe?

http://youtube.com/watch?v=tWXjhqSTsNM
Apple would not make it so that the screen is far up, making the top part smaller than the bottom part (Where the speaker and Home button is respectively)
And yeah, the logo on the back is not at the same angle as the phone itself.
And, obviously, these would be down by now if they were genuine.
Come on guys, did you even zoom in and check the pixel density on that back shot? Its a pretty obvious fake..
I could belive that. that looks new and re designed, im a bit sad that there are no pictures of it on though. looks to keep the glass front and make a plastic back which i dont really aprove of becase its going to get scrached up, bad.
For a new Iphone the rear casing looks pretty scratched...mmmm
That better not be the new iPhone. Looks like a cheap toy.
What makes you guys think Apple isn't leaking shots of their upcoming products on purpose every once in awhile to test for market receptivity? :D
Apple never do market research, focus groups etc.
the screen looks matte, no shiny glass on the front, i doubt apple would ditch that. its the LG.
Wiigee,
you beat me to the punch while I was reading other comments. Take a picture of an iPhone. The glass screen would not reflect blurry. This looks like a matte lcd screen.
Not only is the apple logo squished, but the angle on the "iPhone" text does not match the angle the device is sitting at.
Its not just Photoshopped, its badly Photoshopped
Sorry guys, but this is totally a photoshop job. Import this image into Photoshop (or GIMP for that matter) and use the magic wand tool on it and you'll immediately see what I mean. Massive pixelation around the apple logo and the word "Iphone", and the home button is crooked.
If you don't believe me, check out this thread at Macrumors:
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=478599&page=1
There's about 5 examples on that thread of where this guy got sloppy photoshopping this thing.
Garbage... These images have been edited...enough said
Me no likey.
Look at the apple logo on the backside... it's out of proportion (width) ....
I don't think it's legitimate. Also I think Apple would use a plastic back considering they are moving to full aluminum on their iPods and computers.
[EDIT] Apple wouldn't*
fake!, apple uses brushed aluminum on all their products
what exactly is aluminum on the MB...
You guys have to give this iphone next generation thing a break. Apple is very very secretive and the odds of a future product being exposed like this is highly unlikely. Plus this looks like an iPod Touch with its case altered slightly. Also they design these things in California, why would it be leaked in France!
notice how the iphone word is pasted over in a rectangular box, and the apple logo is pasted in a square. it is obvious when you invert the picture:
http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/collectivemadness/UntitledAlbum/photo#5195869738066919058
lame copy and paste job.
99% Odds it is fake because: 1) it was disclosed that the volume up/down rocker will be chrome and here it is not, 2) the side outline was accidentally disclosed earlier and the side taper is rounder/incorrect in this photo, and there is also a slight reflection on the side as if the current iPhone aluminum while the sides/back are supposed to be all black in the real deal.
Thats either a smaller IPHONE or a HUGE HAND
You can tell that it's fake by the curved bottom (where the connector is for USB) all the iPhones, and iPods share the same connector and are placable in a FLAT bottom, curved edge dock. This new bottom would render all the current docks useless and apple doesn't do that kind of thing.
Come on guys. this is obviously a fake!
1. the back looks like its made out of a really cheap material. i doubt that apple would settle for such an inverior material. it's extremely scratched and thus must have been jingling around in someones pocket for a long time.
2. the stroke of the white rounded square in the home button is way too thick and not parallel to the bottom edge of the screen.
3. if you increase the brightness of the back shot in photoshop you can see that the black areas around the camera are slightly off colour compared to the rest of the back.
4. it's a really ugly design apple would never settle for. plus the rounded bottom does not allow for the iphone to sit in a conventional dock.
everyone here who thinks this phone looks cool should go and buy a motorola or nokia mobile instead of an iphone.
Not to start anything, but personally it looks real dull.
It doesn't look like something Apple would let out the door with the way it looks now.
It could certainly be a prototype, but with the way it looks in that pic,Deff wouldn't like it cosmetically.
We've seen apple come out with some pretty sexy devices, but this really is legit,Apple's design team must be on vacation or sleeping in a lot more.
Doesn't have that 'Apple' look
DEFINITELY FAKE
Look at where the bottom of the phone intersects with the hand... clearly a bad Photoshop job:
http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/3769/fakeiphonekc7.jpg
Note the faint line of the antenna cover on the bottom. I'm pretty sure it is a fake.

Id say with all the scatches on it, its definitely not far fetched.
Also. Were is the size & copyright things that apple normaly has there.
The screen too, is not behind glass, that is so easy to see.Its a cheap old reflective lcd. I don't know why anyone else didn't point it out.
i hope, i hope, i hope this is wrong.
Can anyone tell me why this 3g iPhone, if it IS real, doesn't have a camera on the front? PLEASE tell me the 3G equivalent WILL have the front camera for video calls, otherwise it's just pointless.
I am literally laughing out loud about how many people think this is real. The Apple logo isn't even ON STRAIGHT. This is so photoshopped it's not even funny.
When are you people going to Learn??? This is how you know when these pics come up if Legit or Not.... http://www.y2kers.com/2008/04/like-i-said-before-when-legal-speaks-the-rumors-are-true/
SHOULDN'T A 3G iPHONE HAVE A CAMERA ON THE FRONT (VIDEO CALLS)? Just a thought.
its fake for sureee.
look at the camera and apple logo, you can see they are cut out from something else (maybe the first gen iPhone)
plus under where is says iPhone, they always have a bunch of mombo jombo like the S/N, size, made in cali shit
Sorry, but this is a fake. It doesn't follow Apple's current design trends at all. There's no metal visible, it's plain black plastic (with heaps of scuff marks), and that screen doesn't look anywhere near the quality of the current one (also looks well marked).
Additionally, that port on the bottom is the wrong size and shape, and in the wrong place (how are you going to put it into a Universal Dock?).
that's so obviously a fake simply because its so damn ugly.
fail.
engadget fell for this? i mean i expect them to post next gen iphone images that are actually realistic and convincing, but this one is poor and amateurish. should we expect every piece of rubbish that someone claims is an iphone to be posted?
why would Apple wanna do a black back? Never happened, and in the near future wont happen.
Man, do you REALLY thing you will spot a secret like the new iPhone that easy?
Duh!
Remember how WRONG were ALL the iPhones pics and scratchs before official launch?
Wake up, please!
"anonymous and unverified"
These are usually the most interesting releases! I would've liked to see what's displayed on-screen (maybe there's novelty there too).
REAL photos of iPhone 3G!
http://www.iphonehellas.gr/978/3g-iphone-photos/
check them out...
if you zoom the picture, you can see the difference in pixels on the back between the phone and the apple logo and the "iphone" letters
