Well, that's that! Microsoft has officially pulled its bid for Yahoo! -- inflated for good measure this weekend by another $5 billion -- after the company did "not move toward accepting [the] offer",
asking again for
even more, another $4 bil (totaling $9b more than the
original offer). In a letter from Ballmer to Yang, he states that Microsoft also won't be looking at its option for a
hostile takeover, stating that Yahoo! likely "would take steps that would make [it] undesirable as an acquisition"; Ballmer then goes on to make a few backhanded criticisms of Yahoo's possible new partnerships with Google (which is no surprise). Good night,
Microhoo, the monstrous, hamstrung, lumbering mega-merger that might have been.
Update: Yahoo! makes its
public response here. Yang sums it up: "With the distraction of Microsoft
's unsolicited proposal now behind us, we will be able to focus..." etc. Alright then.

Not so quick, Quickboy. Originality, should not be claimed, it should be 'forwarded' with commen sense. Any savvy investor knows that Microsoft was a BIG catalyst to the dotcom bubble. Yes Microsoft! Let the Truth be Told... A Barron's article states a lot of companys were lossing cash at the time, and Microsoft had its initial anti trust issue. Yes, they were decleared to be too monopolistic....

Quickboy, your use of the word probably lets me think that you are pullin things out the air. Microsoft never created a web based email on there own...hence the acquision of Hotmail. Gmail is original on its own merits, just like Y! mail, which is the absoute best. Thats why, or at least one reason upon thousands, MSFT wants to hook up with them...hotmail is not good enough...MSFT is not good enough a combo of hotmail and Y! mail= Bloatware. this brings me back to Zune as a pmp...Why..why jump on the mp3 player bandwagons late in the game...Can you say Pocket PC?.. wasn't good enuf...Why didn't Microsoft develop/build upon ob that platform they already had, which btw was going head to head with the Palm in its heydays....Xbox..another platform that they waited to come in...They could take lessons from Nintendo and the Wii---Only a matter of time they jump on that too. Sony has this arena on lock in my humble opinion, anyway... Stil not convinced.....

Yes ...there are others... but i think you get the point. Incidentally, Microsoft just purchaced the sidekick platform from T-Mobile..Yes they Know whats coming. thats why they are searching.. Aslo the have a 1.6% stake in Facebook... Yeah, they don't want that one to excape their claws, just like MySpace....Ever thought about that?
