Windows XP SP3 hits Windows Update, Vista SP1 makes a comeback
At last the moment you've been waiting for. Microsoft wants to hit your version of Windows with an update, and this time you don't have to go rummaging around the internet to find it: just fire up Windows Update and let Microsoft do all the work. After a few false starts XP users get the much-anticipated SP3 update, which promises speed boosts and some of the fancy security features found in Vista. If you're a Vista user you're also in luck, since Microsoft has restarted its Vista SP1 distribution after some compatibility problems with Microsoft Dynamics RMS. Sounds like a party.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

FINALLY!!!!!!
you know how long i've waited for this????????
7 days!
Check out my post at the URL below. I have links to the stand-alone download files. There are two different versions that can be downloaded. One is a standard EXE file and the other is an ISO image that seems to be similar to when Microsoft released Windows XP Service Pack 2 for free on CD.

does this update include the genuine tool to tell us if the product is pirated or legit?
I cannot get my MSN messenger to run after SP3, anyone has the same problem?
Mike u can suck my d*** Apple rules and will be always be better than Microsoft!!!
Arley, I have to decline your request since I am not gay. Maybe you should ask Steve Jobs to suck it for you. I am sure he knows what he is doing since there are so many Apple fanboys love to suck Steve's dick.
I'm not a apple fanboy I love apple products and love my XBOX 360 Elite I just hate people who hate apple and cant handle the truth that Leopard is a way better operating system than Vista by the way I'm using XP SP3 right now & will be getting my new iMac by June :)
Arley, you are using 10.5.2 now? if not, you can do it when you have your new iMac. Try to put some spotlight comments on your system harddrive (command-I, then just write something in the spotlight comments) and reboot. in next few days, you will find out how "great" the mac osx is. When you do find out that, just reinstall the system (time machine is not going to solve it), there is no known fix (wait for 10.5.3?). good luck
P.S. my MSN messenger is working now
Awesome, installed SP3 on my PC at work and it refused to boot. Uninstalled it from safe mode and it's back to working. Anyone else have this happen?
I had the same problem and followed the same steps as you did.
It is most likely a Driver problem since i contacted HP.
I forgot to take not of the error code when the blue screen appeared..
I too am having the issue. And I too have an HP. Uninstalling now. Currently in safe mode. err...
I tried to install mine twice and both times they stalled in the middle of the process. How long did it take you guys to download and install it?
Hmm, three people with the same issue and all of us have an HP.
How long is the installation supposed to take? Mine is still going after 4 hours!
i have an hp 2710p tablet. After installing sp3 the machine worked fine, but everytime i would do a shutdown it would bluescreen. After troublshooting memory and drive, i removed sp3 and it worked fine. I also noticed that with sp3 installed, the shutdown never loaded the automatic windows file synchronization i use for my data on a network drive. After removal of sp three..file synchronization is working flawlessly....seems like the file synch has something to do with bluescreening on my hp.
had problem with installing sp3.after installing could not boot back in to windows had to boot in to safe mode and do a restore so no sp3 for me. so sad haha.
Just finished installing and everything is running without any problems. I don't know if there really is any speed increase, but startup was quick (or maybe I'm just thinking/wanting it to be faster, so I think it's fast?) But so far so good, some programs had to reinstall itself (MSN and other Microsoft programs) but other than that, everything is good
The Vista SP1 really sped up the pc.
Doesn't take anything to open up files, and annoying "calculating time" thing is gone, files move more quickly. 45MB took about 2 seconds to copy, instead of the usual minute or so.
using it now, used gravy's link on 1st page
patched uxtheme.dll using lein's link on 1st page (thanks guys!)
haven't noticed any difference in performance or whatnot. but it works, so that's all i care about.
So, they were late, but it is up and running now on Windows Update. You guess were pretty mean to the guy clinging to his iBook like it....well was worth saving or something. I am going to wait to see what happens when my friends install SP3. If their computers don't burst into flames or the DRM does something, I am on board.
I just hope it works the first time. No SP3 hotfixes please.
MAC FOR LIFE!
Cha-Ching!!!!! More Mercedes for Cupertino!!! They may as well add a few hundred bucks to every Mac with fans like you out there...Q
Good ol' Vista is getting better. I prefer it to XP any day, I run both in my house.
Only problem is with peoples poor coding for software/drivers. Yes, I am looking at you Dell...
Just installed Windows XP SP3. Install went fine, except that the Address toolbar is no longer available on my desktop. My Google Toolbar is fine, but no Address bar!
Nice to know you had a smooth transition. Mine is still installing after 8 hrs! Has mine stalled again or is this normal? Your advice is highly appreciated.
I had to re-start once before my download went ok.
I have actually installed SP3 twice and uninstalled once. After first hangup, it downloaded and installed just fine (takes about 30 minutes on DSL all together).
anyone know why SP3 wont download? The installing update window just does nothing!?
I had to restart mine once.
Installed it on my XP Media Center 2005 system without a single problem.
sudo kill xserver
echo "Console ftw"
oh wait we are talking windows? damn
I'm running SP2 and Windows Update is not pushing SP3 to me. How can I get this download?
Windows XP service pack 2 sets the half open TCP connections to 10 and there are patches like "Event ID 4226 Patcher" to change that value..... in the new Service pack 3, is the half open TCP connections also set at 10 or a similar low value? Is there a patch out to change the value? I want to know before i install sp3....
What exactly is the difference between Windows Vista 32-bit and 64-bit. From what I have seen they cost the same. What is the difference and which is better....I am looking to buy an HP laptop with 3Gb RAM, 2.0 or higher Intel processor, 256 NVIDIA graphics card....etc...Help?
Thanks!
and yes, I do know what my name means. :) I am still learning. :P
Well with regards to service pack 3 for XP. It does have some serious issues with regards to Java. I am not talking about the actual web browser plugin, though that *may* have issues, but with the run time environment needed to use drjava to do my programming assignments, it showed black blotches in the tool bar menu. Also it would totally screw up the formatting of my code.
This was working fine before the update. I removed service pack 3 and things went back to normal.
I am not using an hp computer, so it is not brand specific. Java is platform independent, and drjava is not even actually installed in the normal sense of programs being installed.
SP3 crashed my AMD based computer :(
And I'm not the only one with this problem. Now it only works in safe mode, if I start windows normally all I get it the windows start up screen followed by a blank screen and then my screen displays "no signal".
Supposedly it's some sort of driver incompatibility that happens in non-Intel processor based computers. You'd think Microsoft would take this into account -_- I wish I would have found this out before formating my hard drive, reinstalling windows then updating just to have my computer crashing again -_-
I haven't expeirence of WINDOWS XP SP3.Is it feasible to install?
