Zune TV lineup gets some NBC love
While we're still waiting for the early year flirtations of NBC and Apple to sprout into a renewed relationship, it looks like Microsoft is picking up the ball and running with it. Over 800 episodes in total are available at the moment, and all of them are going for 160 Microsoft Points -- about $2.00. A more complete list is after the break.

Did I miss something? Heroes series 1 and 2 are on the UK iTunes store.
yup, it's only a US Store thing...
$2.00 a show, lol, good luck with that one. Why would anyone pay $2.00 for something that's free on Hulu??? i mean back in the days when it was available on iTunes you had no choice but to pay .99 cents or wait a couple of weeks, but now these shows get posted within 1 day & are Free. I just don't understand why would microsoft let NBC screw Zune users that way, am not taking sides here but i bet Apple won't pay them more than .20 cents a show, Now that they go up on the same day for free
Why pay?
Same reason you buy a song rather than wait for it on the radio.
Or maybe you don't get that when you buy the video from the store, you get to play it anywhere you want. No high speed internet connection necessary.
@Sean, Dude as you already said, People like buying Songs to listen to them over & over, buying 1 or 2 Episodes of a entire Season to watch over & over does not make sense though, It make even less sense to buy it if a Free version is release along side with the purchase one,
The 2 bux per episode is for the rights to take it with you on the Zune. Hulu videos are ad supported and only viewable(in decent quality) on your PC while you are doing other things on the PC. Not everyone enjoys watching full television programs on the PC. No matter how nice the monitor setup is. I've watch Hulu videos all the time. I especially like the SNL videos. But I can't go anywhere with them. I can't switch to my LCD and watch them via my 360. I can't watch them on my old big screen via my Linksys Media Center Extender. They really are for promo use in my opinion. Plus NBC makes some money on the ads. For them to agree to put downloadable videos that are portable on Zune, somebody has to pay. TV has become bad enough...if people don't pay to keep it going...it's gonna get worse....Q
I'm really happy with the fixes finally can update album info in the program and it displays what your listening too when your minimized, all and all good update imo
Thank goodness for torrents and NZB's and DVR's and Media Centre PC's w/Tuner cards and Tivo and 10Mb cable internet speeds and red-heads and those twins.........
Many artists have gone on record to say that they make less money via iTunes than traditional album sales. It should be GOOD that another company (albeit Microsoft) has stepped in and offered a different deal. The only reason Apple can do what they do is because they're the only game in town. Well, make that WERE.
NBC hasn't gone Zune because Microsoft is necessarily better, NBC has gone Zune because they don't want to be bullied around by Apple.
Same reason I no longer purchase Ipods and Macs.
Ah, so you now buy *Microsoft* products because you hate being stomped on by a monopoly?
Hilarious!
P.S. I doubt you ever bought Macs...
I fully agree with you. Apple can bully them around because they are the market leader, and not by any small margin. As small as the Zune's market is, it's still #2. I own a iPod touch, but that's mostly because I had to. If i didn't then a) as a mac user, I have no good options for easy DMP. My other options were slowly opening up with Amazon Unbox, I could switch to Windows and port over, but their downloader was complicated.
So what choice did I have. Easy ways to get TV shows and movies legally? I needed to get an iPod, it was the only game in town. MS changed that, and now I'm more then happy to dump the iPod for a Zune 80.
Based on your comments, I doubt you've ever owned a Mac or an iPod. Once you go Mac, you never go back. :o)
i've owned a powerbook G4, two ipods (a 3G and a 4G Photo). the powerbook is seriously underpowered and not useful for much else than web browsing (if you're not using flash). and i've had a total number of 10 or so service repairs on my Ipods.
but the main reason i don't buy ipods is because of - like i've already stated - tactics by apple. ie - making people buy a new $300 ipod to get gapless playback (which microsoft offered for FREE recently on all their products), terribly designed and expensive AC adapters that are NOT covered under warranty but are well known to fail (i've gone through 2). the fact that the iphone headphone jack is specifically built for apple-branded earbuds. and the list goes on and on. it's the hardware equivalent of DRM.
apple is a good DESIGN company, and if their products have design flaws, i'm inclined to think that it was a conscious design decision.
"Yes, let's NOT have support for compitition," - Duscrom
Hey, I'm all for competition. I say let the best store (and device) win. But pulling your stuff from iTunes and offering it on Zune for the SAME PRICE is not exactly what I'd call "competition."
Ditto the music companies allowing Amazon to sell DRM-free music but not allowing Apple to do the same.
You're being used.
Microsoft has a funny perspective on "competition." And apparently NBC does too.
I'm not convinced it's them not allowing Apple to sell it DRM free. On the terms of Making money, let's look at the obvious. iTunes struck #1 retailer of music, with DRMed music, AFTER Amazon MP3 was around. Why should the release the DRM? They don't Need to, and it would take money from them, as they make more money off of the people who are locked into the iPod family then they do off the music store. There are alot of people who won't buy a Zune because it doesn't play their iTunes music.
Thanks to you for ensuring that content will continue to get worse and worse. It's people like you who contributed to the writer's strike. They have to make up for the lost revenue. You think you are so cool cause you don't pay for things. Like you were the first person to think of it or something. Some of us like ease of use and are willing to pay for it. Q.
> Ditto the music companies allowing Amazon to sell DRM-free music but
> not allowing Apple to do the same.
Blame your precious Apple for not negotiating. It's not the music companies fault - they are looking out for themselves and Apple has increasing leverage that they are rightly concerned about.
They are looking elsewhere and getting better terms - it may be a pain for the iPod-lovers out there but in the long-run it will benefit consumers to NOT have one, dominating "choice".
(1) if when downloaded to the PC will the TV shows stream to the 360 dashboard and extenders and (2) if I have already purchased a TV show via a 360, do I also own it in the Zune market place to now download to my PC and Zune?
I would think yes to both, but want to be sure. I doubt you would launch without this since Apple supports it via AppleTV \ iPod and I would think MS would want the same integration with 360 and Zune to compete.
I don't see how this is so surprising. MS and NBC have been really close anyway. MS owns (MS)NBC. It would have been NBC programing even if they didn't have the whole Apple incident. I am more of an ABC fan myself. I could watch episodes of LOST for hours on my Zune, even though it is free in HD on ABC.com.
There is some clarification in this thread:
http://forums.zune.net/216823/ShowPost.aspx
1) Zune purchased TV shows on my PC will stream to 360s. Great. :)
2) 360 purchased TV shows will not be available to download on my PC / Zune. This is unfortunate and needs to be corrected to compete with iTunes and iPod / AppleTV directly.
3) Zune purchased TV shows will not be available to download to my 360. Not so much an issue b/c of 1.
I only watch Heroes on that list, unless you count UFC. But I only watch that because it's on after Max X when I don't bother to turn off the TV.
