Sony's PSP Skype headset finally arrives Stateside

If you've got a PSP-2000 and a hankering for some VoIP on the run, Sony has finally brought its Skype-friendly PSP headset to US retail. Unfortunately, it won't work with those original fatty PSPs, and at $30 you've gotta ask yourself how much you'll really be using it for -- the original price was set at $20. That said, it's undoubtedly the easiest way to get up and running with Skype and in-game voice chat on the PSP, since it used to require two separate accessories to pull it off. Considering that you need to be in wifi range, this still leaves a lot to be desired when you consider the plans for a psp-phone. This does not really do much if i am honest, if you want to skype, then you need to have a reciever who is most likely going to be on a computer. Give this a GSM addon on similar and you would be able to enter the mobile phone gaming market also.

Switch to skype and cut out the telecoms. They are corporatist pigs no better than terrorists. Their rates are purely based on leeching off all the money you work hard for, don't give it them.

I'd follow. But, don't forget that Skype is owned by Ebay. And, ever since Ebay bought them, Skype's prices have gone up through the roof. No thank you. I have a Skype/landline phone, and I bought it before realizing how much Skype's prices were increased. Now, it just sits there collecting dust. So, Skype is owned by Ebay, which double dips on every auction via its ownership of PayPal as well. Are we still on the same page about "corporatist pigs"? No difference. If anything, I may actually go for Vonage.

I believe that the very similar looking headsets for the Phats had the mic and headphones in a single jack. From what I gather, the slims use two different jacks?

Wut? psp has great games you got street fighter alpha 3, final fantasy crisis core, God of war, the simpsons game, and list goes on, my 8 gig mem stick is totally full of good games. U just have to look for good ones.

U seriously wanna use psp as a phone? Come on now, it's nice psp now has skype support, but u really want to carry around psp, which can't function as a phone without headset. You need both to just work it. Also we know from the past game gadget/phones don't really work well such as nokia n-gage or gizmondo. In addition, you don't always have computer around where u get wifi. Such as in universities, in those case it would be nice to use psp with skype.

If you're a fan of traditional and tactical JRPGs (as I am), the PSP is THE system to have. Not since the RPG glory days of the SNES and PS1 have I seen so many RPGs being released at once.

I don't mean to be one of those fanboys that just rattles off a list of games, but that's exactly what I'm going to do. For the music gamer like me..

Dj Max, Dj Max 2, Patapon, Taiko no Tatsujin, Pump it up ZERO, Pump it up EXCEED, Patapon, Guitaro Man and more stll to come, it's an awesome game unit.

While I eagerly await Konami making a music games appearance (C'mon IIDX!) I still couldn't ask for much more.

I am not a psp fan, but do like some competition to the iphone, granted its a great product, but you need competition do drive down prices, a psp-phone would bring down iphone prices as its market appeal is across two platforms, just like the iphone can play games in 3d (see quake arena for that).

I'm really really confused here, I've had a sony branded skype headset for atleast a month now.. and by the way having a cordless skype phone built into a game console (if you can call it that) is awesome!

So Skype is free and I have to pay $30 for a client? Right now I can get Skype on my WiFi Symbian phone for free and pay just $70 for Skype World Unlimited!
