Pandora prototype "demoed" -- screen turns on

[Thanks, Andri and Atomicthumbs]

What you get from playing Tetris
A new study published by the big thinkers at Mind Research Network has found that "practicing Tetris" can improve brain efficiency and lead to a thicker cortex.

Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
Ohh, so a working got it?
Good working screen! Looks fine without one!
What!!! With no deal to be traded i must announce that i finally understand without!!
I cant see my open eyes being open to another place for this stereo!!
I know, huh?
Google translator didn't work as well as you seemed to hope.
Lets play guess the source language
I'm thinking Japanese.
I concur!
English, let me show you it.
Ho, Tom. It can not be more of my mind than how you see. Cat is really on that. My eyes look backward and brain can see that I see. Hand up to the moon, weedhopper.
Is this one of those Spam poems?
Pandora looks awesome, can't wait!
The dream has been realized!
I suppose that the two-minute preamble is to prove to people that no, this thing is not the size of an EEE PC or a mini laptop.
Also, in the finla revision the lid will be more smoothed; the entire thing will be streamlined and less thick.
BUT WILL IT PLAY PORN???
rv: yes.
EXCELLENT!!!!
lolz
When you're looking at it, just remember it's just a prototype at the moment. This will be a well polished machine, more shiny and not so "jaggedy" when it comes out as seen in this video. In terms of power; there's only one thing to say about this; it's going to be a beast!
Why is it sitting on top of a dell laptop?
for size comparison?
The DS should be sufficient for size comparison though, but perhaps you are correct.
Perhaps...
*Thoughtful expression*
Probably for size comparison. It's MWeston's laptop.
maybe because he felt like putting it ontop of a laptop?
I find this video shallow and pedantic!
oh Reginald... I disagree!!!
I hear tripods are cheap nowadays; put the camera on a stool or something at least.
and what's with the lighting?
I figure that somewhere in youtubes usage policy it states that all videos must be shot by spastic coffeine junkies with dusty/scratched cellphone cams and no more than 25 watts of lighting in a dark room.
hmm, I have never heard of coffeine... is that when the amount of caffeine in your coffee exceeds the amount of liquid in your drink?
@ stefan
you did forget the line where it states "it HAS to be out of focus"
have you ever played this game called mad libs? just curious
More importantly, who hasn't played Madlibs?
Pronoun have never verbed noun before.
The tall man entered the nice building to visit a very nice man. “Sit down, Mr. Smith. Can I interest you in any good catfood?”
Am I not the first person that saw the headline and thought it was a portable Pandora internet radio client?
no, you're not not the only one.
No, i thought that too,
but this is far more satisfying news
OK, so you three are the only ones.
Am I the only one that thought it was gonna open a box, and we'd all be in trouble?
I was hoping for all 3 at the same time!
But will it blend? (6)
If you blend this I will come to your home and steal your eyeballs
No, but I'm quite certain YOU will.....
FFVII Anyone?

Drooool
Looks like there's some glitchiness on the name input screen.
Lovely screen, huge compared to the DS there. This machine is looking pretty damn amazing... those vids of the PS1 emulator running fullspeed on an unoptimized port even before release are mindblowing. The devs say it will have all kinds of upscaling and filtering options to make it look much better than the PSP's emu - drooling at 2xSDHC for storage!
yea, i'm getting pretty excited about the pandora. I wonder if it will be possible to hook up an external keyboard. Then I could bring that bad boy to class and type up my notes as well. Although, the screen might be too small for that...
Definitely will be able to; and the Nokia N800 has the same size screen.
I use my N800 (with a BT keyboard) for that purpose. It works fine for me; I put the little screen right in front of me, between my arms, and the keyboard farther away, and it works fine.
what is the background music?
The background music is a track called "Muscle Cars" by Mylo from the album Destroy Rock & Roll
The official site has lots of info on this amazing bit of kit:

As does the forum:

I am am in no way affiliated with this project, I am just a keen observer with £200 burning a hole in my pocket.
That and a box of Playstation games in the garage I couldn't sell at a car boot years ago :-) boy am I glad they didn't.
I thought it was the Pandora radio station on the DS. I'm crushed.
No, but it could be Pandora radio on the Pandora...
Anyone know the music playing in that clip?
Yep, that's Mylo, from the 2004 album 'Destroy Rock & Roll'.
Track that's on the album is called 'muscle cars', but that has some basic lyrics to it. Same music tho.
Main screen turn on.
It's you!!
Damn it!!
I thought they got Padora running on the DS...
:(
Me like. Just let me know when it is complete and where I can buy it.
Hey Tom, how you go broth? I have not long been think that I'm only one here from Tralflamadore. Can you dig with that thing? I understand without too. My eyes look backward at my brain and I can see that I can see. Kriptonite on ice!
Is this only for gaming? If not what else can we expect?
It's a Linux-based open-source hacker-friendly environment
Expect ANYTHING dude... The thing can even run a full desktop (though it would not be very practical with that screen size, despite the good resolution)
Oh forgot to say - It has USB host... Wich means you can run on it anything that has drivers for Linux - webcams, gaming controllers, full-size keyboards, mouse, the Tux drone...
The real question is, will it accept this?
http://www.thinkgeek.com/geektoys/japanfan/9c89/
that would be great...
Not to be a buzzkill or anything, but this system doesn't look all that fantastic to me. The design reminds me of some of the clunky handheld technology that I recall from the late 1990s and early 2000s. Sure hope it functions better than it looks!
That's what she said.
It's a prototype...it's not supposed to be pretty. But it doesn't look much worse than the DS to me.
MY ONLY QUESTION...
why are they displaying both units on top of a laptop with white paper over the keyboard?
The pandora has been released to developers in a limited production run. It's a very powerful piece of hardware that's also fully OpenGL ES capable. Already, a known dev in the community has created a FULL SPEED PSX emulator for the device, which is proof enough for me of the performance.
Some other reasons why it's cool: not much larger than a DS, but has qwerty keyboard, WiFi, dual SDHC slots, USB Host capability, not to mention that it's more graphically capable than the DS.
In which format could these porns be? :P
Just kidding. Congratulations.
This thing looks like it will become my new coding toy :)

Pandora Battery Preparation
1. Make sure you have completed the "Memory Stick Preparation" first.
2. Plug the Memory Stick back in.
3. ***OPTIONAL *** Run the "Pandora's Battery Creator" program on the PSP and press Triangle "/" to back up the contents of your battery's flash into a file on you memory stick. The program will automatically exit. *Note:* This step is REQUIRED if you want to make this a normal battery again; otherwise it's optional.
4. Run the "Pandora's Battery Creator" program on the PSP. This prepares the battery. You will not be able to use it normally from now on unless you've taken the optional step above to revert after the fact (should be using a spare so you can keep it around anyways).
5. You now have a "Magic Memory Stick" and a "JigKick Battery". Proceed to the next section to reflash your PSP.
at the same time, you can get a pandora battery
