RIM's BlackBerry Bold / 9000 gets official
Damn, took 'em long enough! RIM finally announced the BlackBerry Bold / 9000 -- we've got specs, but no price or hard launch date. Here we go:
- Family will include HSDPA and EV-DO versions (including an AWS-capable 1700MHz version), much as we'd heard
- 480 x 320 display
- 625MHz CPU, 1GB internal flash memory
- 802.11a/b/g, Bluetooth 2.0 (with A2Dp), GPS, MicroSDHC
- 480 x 320 video recording, photo geotagging
- 4.5 x 2.6 x 0.55-inches, 4.7 ounces

May 21st isnt a Tuesday.
Your statement is incorrect! He didn't say what YEAR's May 21st.
2002 is the last and 2013 is the next.
wow.. that shits is baller..
Good thing I can get active sync on my sony ericsson phone though
What?
damn!... and I just renewed my contract for a curve... oh well im pretty sure it will take a 6 months for it to come to t-mobile than another 6 months for t-mobile to get 3G where I live so i will be good
That sure is damn slick looking Blackberry!
HEY GUYS !
I'm currently a 8100 user and I'm looking into buying a new phone later on this year.
Can anybody tell me what the major differences between the Xperia and the 9900? (I know they have different OS.. blah blah)
Like what's the difference between the Blackberry push e-mail and what the WinMo users get? which one is better? why is it better?
This phone is a godsend. I may have touted Verizon EVDO in the past, and AT&T still sucks, but I'll suffer to get my hands one of these before May 2009 (Verizon's launch date). Get with the program Verizon; early adopters adopt new tech early, not a year late!
Verizon needs some time to figure out how to disable the GPS.
@Hiwired
Funny and oh so true!
Your resolution is backwards. Try 480x320. : ) XxY is the proper format.
im diggin that nice screen
Now, if this could just come to Alltel in the next month or so then we would be in business.
What's an Alltel?
Alltel. I here it's contagious. A little cream should clear it up.
Wow that thing is gorgeous, it is the possibly the most beautiful smartphone I have laid eyes on, and I am not kidding.
if Chuck Norris thinks so, the competition is over!
Chuck Norris doesn't use smartphones, it's faster for him to run
Don't tell anyone, but when he thought no-one was looking I once saw him pull one out from his beard.
Do any gadget savants really prefer a Blackberry over a truly 3rd-party-supported platform?
The first day I bought my HTC Titan, it was hacked into a beautiful, pristine superdevice on the train ride home, with all the trimmings, including GPS. It was not built this way.
I suggest anyone going for the high-end business phone look to the Rafael for love.
It's not so much that gadget savants--I like that phase, btw--love RIM, it's more so those in business. The devices' operating on a closed platform lends to their greatest asset: security.
The Raphael may be gorgeous, but, essentially, as in the case of all WinMo and other open platforms, it comes hacked out of the box.
when i had a blackberry, the rim programs made for it worked so well i didnt' miss an open platform. Its pretty damn seemless
That depends on your priorities ... do you want to play with gadgets or just get the job done? I like gadgets, but generally fall into the later catagory; I love my Blackberry and will be first on the list to get oneof these.
Here's something that shouldn't draw flames from either camp - THANK GOD FOR COMPETITION!
You stinking fanboy! Take your stinking competition and shove it where the stinking sun don't shine! You can just go sing the stinking praises of stinking Steve Gates someplace else! I'm stinking tired of engadget posting everytime Bill Jobs stinking breathes!
I know neither Steve Gates nor Bill Jobs, but these might ring bells:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Jobs
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Gates
They might ring bells, or they might run/figurehead tech companies.
Perhaps you missed it, but in the subtlety of my post, I also used a word SEVEN times...
I'm probably just that over-the-top crazy, in which case I guess I would accidentally mix up names. The probability that it was deliberate is just too small to bear considering...
(For the record, I know neither Steve nor Bill Gates, nor yet Steve nor Bill Jobs. I don't even know Bill Wozniak; guess I'm surprisingly ill-connected, too, so don't feel bad about it.)
I'm already in love with my T-Mobile Curve.
Now that it's confirmed with 3G for T-Mobile (bout time), I'm gonna have to part ways and say hello to Bold.
K sprint hurry up and get this NOW!!!!!
Wrong CDMA carrier telling to pick up the BlackBerry--or virtually any device--in a timely manner...you hear me now? Good.
Is it coming to canada right away? because i'd love to get one.
none of the carriers have announced it yet, but it'll probably end up with Rogers first, since they typically get the new phones faster, being the only GSM provider and all.
Yea that makes sense. I just hope bell gets it within a reasonable time span.
Considering RIM is Canadian and all...Yeah it will come to Canada, probably before...everyone.
I guess technically it's in Canada already...
Mmm, that looks nice.. I wish there was more than 1GB internal flash memory, though.
You can MicroSD up to 16GB
@aaron I think you meant MicroSDHC? Correct me if I am wrong.
uber sexy.
yawn
I sure wish RIM would get their OS X act together. Not all mac people own an iPhone, and it is a pain in the ass to use the unofficial OS X BlackBerry software.
no wifi = lame
though it does look really nice otherwise
i guess you need "wifi" to be spelled out for you..
what do you think "802.11a/b/g" is?
Not knowing 802.11a/b/g is WiFi = lame
woops, completely missed that. thanks bud
As it says in the Specs..."802.11a/b/g" which is a WIFI capability. Even it has a logo of WIFI in the blackberry 9000 screen shown in the picture. So obviously it has WIFI capabilities.
where are all of you people using this wifi? in new york you are either searching for someone dumb enough to leave their wifi unlocked or paying for an access spot. I've never been on EVDO on a phone and wished i was on wifi. or are you sitting around your house on your home network without a data plan?
WOW I am seriously digging that 480x320 screen AND the 480x320 VIDEO record (though at what bitrate) NIcccceeeee!
I can't say I'm the biggest fan of the OS, but those are some really nice specs they have there.
