Sounds like that
rumor about a new, smaller Xbox 360 coming next year might have a shorter life than a red-ringing console. Specifying the release of "slimmed down SKU in 2009", Microsoft representative let us know today that "While we don't normally comment on rumors like this, we can tell you that we have no plans to release a new console in 2009". Yep, rumor assassinated, just like that. Of course, there still exists the possibility that Microsoft's just playing coy to prevent a little bit of Osborne effect from creeping in during their heated battle with the PS3 -- but they did go out of their way to directly comment on the rumor, so take it as you will.
I don't see what's the issue with the 360's size anyway. I think it's fine the way it is.
i should hope not, they need to fix what they got now before making another crappy console.
Why not? It falls quite nicely with MS M.O. for years. Without a product update from their victims to copy from, why waste millions in real R&D? Once the other manufacturers announce new consoles, MS will quickly announce their update. Of course with specs that will trump the others.
I suppose that they'll release this thing around Christmas 2008.
that is just what I did and I love the ps3. didnt know the system was this bad ass. already set the xbox to the side.
Just buy a Playstation...

I have both consoles,, not to sound like a SONY slave but the whole blu-ray thing made me sway over and now I see the power of the system. I think ms needs to buckle down. Sure halo was fun,,but didnt see the whole (oh its the best game ever thing). Could have been great pr by ms telling us we would love the game. Now as of a couple of weeks ago after getting the ps3.,,gonna trade the xbox in with all my little halo things. (maybe SONY did turn me into a slave to them). anyway,,by by ms ,,hello sony.
You know I want to believe you but I just can't. The only way I see this happening is if you happen to be a light gamer.
Why would anyone pass up the opportunity to play Gears 2, Too Human, Alan Wake, Fable 2, Banjo, XNA and all the other great tittles lined up?
I'm sorry it just sounds like you are lying, I could have believed you if you said that you owned both system and you are happily awaiting all the tittles coming out for both systems later this year.
In short I don't believe you just dumped your main gaming rig. No way you are playing as many games as you used to play when you had both systems. No way the PS3 has more hot tittles to play through than 360 not even after 2008.
I have said this before but it was confirmed by a colleague of mine who works for the largest european retailer that a new Xbox 360 sku will arrive in late 2008.
I don't know who your source is or how credible of a source it is, but I too thought that MS would drop a re-design in 08.
It just makes more sense:
1) Releasing a re-design 4 years into a 5 year cycle system just doesn't sound right.
2) The PS3 is finally getting some decent games this year, so dropping a re-design this year would balance out the scale.
3) If the re-design is dropped in 09, what happens to the New system in 2010 ? Isn't that too close? ( I know it's just a rumor but MS said their system has a 5 year cycle)
What do you guys think?
Surpised you didnt say this rumor was shorter than the 360 with blu-ray and link the older thread.
Note to Microsoft (as well as Sony & Nintendo)...

Take your time Microsoft, let's note have history repeat itself... ie. ring of death.
they should call it Xbox 1080, sounds good and catchy. also the fact it does 1080 ;)
you know with the manufacturing cost of a bluray drive being so "high" and the fact that you can get a 1 TB harddrive now for cheap ($150) i wouldnt doubt if microsoft just skipped bluray and went straight to a harddrive only setup. loading times would be faster and since everyone has broadband internet now they could just download their games. bluray can hold a little less than 50gb of info. thats 20 games on a TB hard drive if the games were a full 50gb but since most 360 games are much much much smaller it wouldnt be a problem. maybe an external DVD drive for cheap to play old 360 games..throw in an wireless n card and some bluetooth or maybe a 500 or 750 gb harddrive for cheaper than the TB. you kno they could make a deal with a company to mass produce the harddrives for super cheap.. and within a year when they're serious about a new xbox the price of 1TB will be way cheaper.. plus less moving parts.. less heat generated.. less noise.
