Constellation Light puts LED twist on chandelier
Though not quite as elegant as the Neues Licht, the Constellation Light is still way more practical. Designed by Kenzan Tsutakawa-Chinn and showcased at the recent BKLYN Designs expo, the LED chandelier is crafted from clusters of 3-millimeter LEDs (364 in total on the tips of 91 copper tubes). Notably, it's creator is currently seeking UL approval for the device and hopes to get it on the market in short order, but there's been no mention yet of just how costly it could one day be.

except these lamps don't use fiber opics. there are just LEDs on the ends.
It could easily be made far more attractive with a little tweaking, but nice concept for sure!
I think it looks ugly, quite frankly. I do like the save-energy led idea though.

Meh, it doesn't look bad. Not nearly as ugly as a compact fluorescent, anyway.
Agreed... those horrible spiral "bulbs" or mini sticks... they take a while to come up to full brightness, can't run off a dimmer, *contain mercury*, and do not necessarily last anywhere near as long as claimed: we started buying them last year. They supposedly last 5+ years. We have had 2 die already.
Bring on the LEDs, guys!
Adeptus: I bought two energy saving bulbs with 10 year warranty. I have scanned the receipt and made a backup I have put in my safe incase the orginal thermal paper gets ruined. I would just love to se the face on the clerk when I go to get my money back in 9 years time. It will be the Best_ 20 bucks ever!

So how do you power one of these things? Do you wire a bunch in serial and use a higher voltage or do you parallel everything at 3.7V with a large current?
Maybe a little from column A and a little from column B.
Oh, damn. This is my idea upside down. I made something
similar for my g/f about 6 years ago. It was a small uplight though, and
had about 21 lights in red,green,blue, which faded into different colours.
(@TIMMAH fyi they ran in parallel for each colour set but each LED
needs a resister in series, and then the sets are controlled via a
microcontroller, but I also used 3 MOSFETS to switch the high
current) I used thin 3mm aluminium tubes. I agree, its not exactly
beautiful design, but it looked okay, kind-of industrial look.
I am quite sad, it is not unique any more :(
Aw, great, although very appealing, it's just one more thing to have stolen as the price of copper goes through the roof. They've already knocked off my hot water pipes twice !
