Guitar Hero IV drum kit gets pictured, "cymbals" and all
Game Informer is at it once more: after securing the first snapshots of Rock Band's prototype drum set and microphone last summer, the gaming mag has now produced the first image of Guitar Hero IV's kit. Apparently designers wanted this one to resemble an actual electric kit a bit more than the one bundled with RB, most evidenced by the pair of "cymbals" perched atop the trio of circular pads. Upon banging on a "first-run prototype" in the Neversoft offices, Game Informer was fairly impressed with the layout, but we're still left to wonder if these will be compatible with Rock Band (or vice-versa). Another faux drum kit in the den and we'll be struggling to maintain sanity (and a functional relationship).

This is awesome! It always felt like Rock Band's drums were missing one pad. And the layout was just goofy. Not that this is perfect, but it's definitely a step in the right direction!
Its suicide if they don't make the drumkit functionality compatible with rock band. A lot of the market that wants more than a guitar will have already bought Rockband. This means if its not compatible they'll lose a lot of customers, unless they're not fully committed to the whole band idea, then they'll just sell a lot of copies to people who have the GHIII and GHII guitars already, but not much new equipment.
no hes 32 but is still angry he cant beat it on expert so he swore off the game and now he dedicates his life to bashing it where ever he can.
Just think, by the time this comes out, everyone will have broken their RB drums and will need a new set anyway.
I agree. Close, but no rocking cigar.
Make the kit look like a real electronic kit so we can play crossovers like a real kit would allow and I'll consider it.
Has anyone emailed Activision yet, or are we all just going to bitch on this thread? Let's get the emails rolling people before they decide on this design!
I love Rock Band. I have it for the PS2, though, and got bored of the game since I can't get new songs.
Why is Guitar Hero IV going to have drums? The name of the game is GUITAR hero, not DRUM hero. I'd like to see more drums, personally.. tom tom's, double pedal, etc.
I can do some Rock Band drums on expert, but not too many and I can't do them perfect.
Why is cymabls in quotes?
doesn't look massively different to proper Roland V-drums.
There's a gap in the market for someone to write software that uses this as a proper drum kit.
@Fred
"What does that even mean?"
What are you even asking? It probably means that he believes it should be done more like something you'd find on Gawker, with a quick one sentence summary of the article and then a "read" link. No reason to re-word what was already said on a sister site.
That's what.
GH I < GH3 < GH2 < Rock Band < GH4
It looks just like the setup for Drum Mania in the arcade years ago. I'm not sure why Bemani can't sue and get a piece of the Guitar Hero/Rock Band pie.
I agree. I've been playing Guitar Freaks since the PS1 days of the mid 90s and the Drum Mania games since their release as well. When GH came out I was just like, "what's the big deal?". Sure, it had 2 more frets, but seriously why didn't Konami just release the GF and DM games over here with different songs? Hell, the later Drum Mania games have plenty of American music (Dillenger Escape Plan FTW).
For once, Japan is the innovator and the US copies it... lol.
Whatever, I have more fun playing real instruments anyhow...
i have a fever. and the only cure is MORE COWBELL
want
Guitar Hero? Pfft. I'm waiting for 'String Hero' for the 360 and PS3. Available in viola, violin, cello and double bass flavours. You Baroque!
Less trying to have more addons than anyone else, more paying for licenses for a wider range of genres. Sure I dont mind playing whats on there but for those of us into heavier music, theres a lot to be desired. Im sure its the same for some others.
I really really hope they get a Meshuggah track on :D
