You know how the fanboy banter goes: Wii is teh lame because waggling is silly. PS3 is teh stupid because of those in-game installs and the slow Blu-Ray drive. What if the Xbox 360 were to get
both of those "features" in its
Spring dashboard update? According to a supposedly leaked list for the upcoming dashboard update, both a "motion sensor device" and HDD installation will be supported. The first item listed, "Calibration options for motion sensor devices" certainly makes it seem like a waggle stick is on its way to the 360. The other, "store installation data on Storage Device for faster loading" sounds a lot like the PS3's proclivity for keeping an HDD cache handy. PSWii60, anyone?
I guess you'd know better than I would.
Ha! Shows how much you know! HE'S LEFT-HANDED!
Wow, I don't even want to know how you know BuddhaBoy... Perhaps his avatar should be a picture of the two of you.
Ok if they do include these to main topic features, we can still put the hurt on Wii and PS3.
We will have the first option of using the controller and then the wag remote with games. But i hope to high hell that MS is smart enough to push XBL Arcade games instead of mini games on disc.
Second it sounds like we will have the option to install or not. Again so that users that have the 20gb like myself can still enjoy games. FYI if you have downloaded items in the past you can redownload them.
But it sounds like the PS3 makes you install some sort of cache for most of their games.
It sounds like it will allow more adaption for the gamer type.
I'm on 20GB and have never ran out of space. Who needs a PS3 with 80GB?
If you download full xbox one games and 360 demos you need more than 20gb.
@ Alex
I seem to barely save stuff on my HD and already i'm almost full. I guess it depends on what you're doing on it.
As a Wii60 owner, I care not for the pointing, waggling gimmicks on the Wii and do not care for them to make an appearance on the 360.
I wonder if the copying will ever go in the opposite direction so we get a decent online experience on a Nintendo system. Sigh.
I can actually here your avatar sigh., it's like the Van Gogh painting.
Bring it on.
Guys stop hating/complaining about something you haven't even seen yet. Let it get here before you poop on it. Jeez !!!
The more upgrades and complete the service is the better we all are. If you don't like the motion control/detection idea then don't buy games that are made for it. Just like if you don't like JRPGs you don't buy them. That doesn't mean the rest of us ain't willing to give a lightsaber match on Live a try !!!
Anyway, Low Ranked made a good point up above. This could be simply motion detection using cameras. MS has been doing research on this for a minute now. Products like Surface are using some of that technology.

OMFG GAME INSTALL SUPPORT!!!!!!!!!
I'm praying that this means we'll be able to copy our games to the hard drive so I don't have to hear that god damned noisy DVD drive anymore!!!
I'm sure you'll have to put the disc in for copyright purposes. So the initial spin symphony will still exist.
A lot of devs have been asking for this. I suspect the disc will still spin (after install) but at a much slower pace. More like DVD movie playback speed which is WAY quieter.
I wonder if any games like Mass Effect could be back patched to have this feature. I really like Mass Effect but that texture poping can get distracting.
Not going to happen.
If there was a true 1-1 motion control system that could be a lot of fun.
Unfortunately it's probably another lame ass gesture based system just like the wiitard system has.
By the way, I have all 3 systems. I had to learn the hard way that I don't like my Wii other than a couple of 1st party games (duh, mario and zelda kick ass no matter how lame the controller is!)
"wiitard system"
Wow don't you sound mature?
@ Ken
No, you're immature!! lol
Q: Since when do lame jokes make one immature?
A: They don't.
Your welcome.
Now fuck off.
So does this mean they're updating the BC of the 360 too? I hope so, because I don't want to buy a regular oXbox to play some of the games I got from Goozex.
Backwards compatability is seperate from the spring update. I think Microsoft has said that the BC effort is done for them (or specifically not an effort that will generate enough money (or good will) to justify the expense for the reminaing titles). I would not expect anymore BC updates.
Yes, it sucks, but welcome to the world of the PS3. A lot of titles did make it though, at least all the ones I care about except Riddick. Arggg.
That's a nice start, Microsoft, but everyone and their mother is going for the PS3 instead because of the free online play. Don't nickel and dime your customers for everything and maybe you can stay on top.
"everyone and their mother is going for the PS3 instead"
Is that why the 360 outsells the PS3 on a constant basis? Where did you get this information? Japan?
You ever hear "you get what you pay for?", I tried "free" multiplayer gaming on the PSP. That was the last Sony system I ever owned, Twisted Metal Black never worked in online play mode and multiplayer on the PS2 was a joke. Socom was unplayable online unless you cheated like everybody else. Xbox live actually polices its users and if you cheat your kicked out. PC games have punkbuster for a reason, what does the PS3 have to prevent assholes from pissing in the online gaming pool?
Can I get remote access to my live account? I want to be able to login from any xbox without moving around my hdd or profile. Can't I just login to it???
Amen brother.
Looking forward to this update. I like seeing new things and improved features.
I hope they fix the damn XBLA DRM scheme.
Anything that makes money in a market segment Microsoft can be in becomes the next target of Microsoft.
"How dare Nintendo make money on a game system, Microsoft is the game system" hisss "We will make a motion control system and call it Microsoft Play!, then Nintendo will know only Microsoft rules electronic land. The billions will be ours" hisss.
I actually think Microsoft's intent is more in attracting users who already purchased the Wii. The Wii has opened the market up to the casual crowed after all. I bet they think that with a new perphiral, they can lure that second purchase over to the 360 as opposed to the PS3.
Also don't underestimate the earning power of add-on peripherals. They generate a huge amount of profit for the console makers.
A Dual Shock for $55? Wii Fit...It's a frickin $90 scale and it's selling like gang busters.
Had a Wii the first day it came out. Returned it the very next day. I hope microsoft opens my eyes to motion sensing because so far what I have seen is not so great.
@Paul PS3 has better online gameplay? I am suprised you figured out how to post on here. Now use the internet to find out what everyone else knows about xbox live and its benefits.
Hey maybe now I will be able to get to waggle a controller. Everyone knows those freaking Wii's have been out of stock for damn near 8 months. I have been trying to get one since November last year. Plus I played the best Mario games a long time ago and as cool as the Wii is I would much rather use the motion sensor to beat people up in GTA than collect stars or fire a crossbow.
Motion sensor + good games = :D
PS3 is still just meh. I want one, but then again I don't.
Just to clarify I don't hate on any of the systems I want all of them just happen to only have a 360. 360 is more affordable than PS3 and more available than Wii Xbox live is just so simple plus teh Haloz.
If the 16x10 monitor thing is true that will be awesome as I have a 22 inch HP that does 1680x1050 gorgeously.
Will my 360 finally be able to play my Napster stuff?
Not too interested in the new controllers...
No news about the rumors of an update that will allow the xbox to spin down the DVD drive when it wasn't being used?
What we need is 1680x1050 resolution support... how difficult could that be if in a PC its like 2 clicks away????
Too bad, I would by two if it would allow video chat from the XBox Live Messenger to the Windows Live Messenger, but that is not in the list...
But it is on the list:
"Support for headset, Xbox LIVE Vision in Windows Live Messenger."
game installs, great. Now how about an update that will let you use any off-the-shelf hard drive, so we don't have to get reamed by Microsoft and pay $120 in order to actually install more than one game on a 20GB system?
Well, according to Southwest Airlines. Xbox 360 already has motion tracking controllers, with a baseball game. Check the TV ad... http://youtube.com/watch?v=Y8DhF3z1Q0s
Saw this the first time during the Cavs vs Celtics Game 5.
That update is going to be RAW.
