Sumitomo may not actually produce OLED TVs in 2009
Whoops! Looks like Sumitomo President Hiromasa Yonekura was "misquoted" just a few days back, and there may actually not be any large OLED TVs churned out by the outfit in 2009. According to a new report, Sumitomo is currently "working with partners," thus the "timing of any product launch is not just its call." No worries -- we're fairly certain someone else will step up to the plate in your absence, right guys?[Via OLED-Info]

I am in no way an expert on OLED technology, but I have a general understanding of the core science behind it. Is it a matter of technology or just cost?
I've seen it work, we have stuff in production. Is their a technological roadblock in making it work or is it just too costly to manufacture?

They are both costly to manufacture and have a limited lifespan compared to current technologies...
They do look absolutely fantastic though (you have to see them in person to truly experience this!) and hopefully it won't be long before those kinks get worked out :)

It's cool Hero - I have OLEDs penciled in around 2012/13 on my buy list.

it's a matter of money from the TV market leaders....
as far as right now it's enough to declare new tv-lcd astonishing = higher price just for a slimmer case.......Samsung, Philips, Toshiba, have no interest in a brand new tecnology, with really a step behind image quality that will turn their investment in new lcd factory into a waste
just look how they pretend a 15.000:1 contrast ratio to be SUPER....when OLED will bring up to 1.000.000:1 contrast (yes the numerozf zero is correct...)
The same you see for the time they tried to get rid of VGA plasma display.....pretending to sell them at full price in 3rd world markets.....
