Nothing seems to be official just yet, but it looks like VIA is set to both adopt an always-desirable 45nm manufacturing process for its processors and roll out its first dual-core processors by the end of 2009, at least if the "sources at the company" DigiTimes has heard from are to be believed. Unfortunately, there's apparently no further details on either of those tantalizing possibilities just yet, but the company has done a bit of bragging about its current CPU shipments, saying that it expects its shipments in the first half of 2008 to equal its total shipments in 2007 -- a number that only seems set to go up if
Isiah's benchmarks are any indication.

So I can listen to music and browse the web at the same time? I'll take 2!!

Dual core eh? Hey VIA, welcome to 2006.
tom @ May 15th 2008 4:20PM
+1
Via is gonna crash and burn the CPU project and back to making chipset.
Tomshardware said, they were expecting to make cpu with a V4 Bus speed from 800-1333 MHz, and two 64 KB L1 cache and 1 MB L2 cache pairs with 16-way associatively.

I think via is a good company , invest now is my vote.
bartoron @ May 15th 2008 4:31PM
I'd like to say that VIA has a fighting chance at the moment, but Intel is creeping up on them in the mini-itx department.
Fusion @ May 15th 2008 4:37PM
I swear Intel and AMD have had dual core proffessors sinse 2006
bartoron @ May 15th 2008 4:42PM
I swear you meant processors and not proffessors. (whatever a proffessor is)
martin @ May 15th 2008 4:43PM
wow dual core professors, must make university multi tasking really easy
CraigJ @ May 15th 2008 5:08PM
Is that like a dual core Maryann?
itlnstln @ May 15th 2008 5:49PM
@CraigJ
No, if you have a dual-core Professor, then you need a dual-slot MaryAnn
Duh.
CraigJ @ May 15th 2008 7:06PM
Well, I'm pretty sure Ginger had 2 slots, or at least one really big one...
yuppicide @ May 15th 2008 11:30PM
VIA sucks. Intel and AMD are the only two CPU companies worth anything if you ask me, but I prefer Intel.
Fusion @ May 15th 2008 4:48PM
wops meant, I swear Intel and AMD have had dual core proccessors sinse 2006
BassTek @ May 16th 2008 12:48AM
I think you should change your name to Fussion.

Wow this is just not your day. Stop while you're...
...you know what screw it, you're past the point of no return. have fun!

"Since" hasn't been spelt that way, ever. But your version isn't a far cry from the 15th century "synnes," so good try anyway.
Zach @ May 15th 2008 5:42PM
Why does everyone on here feel the need to be grammar police? I mean, I got the idea he was trying to get across...it was a useless comment, but why all the hate?
Chris Aubeck @ May 15th 2008 6:32PM
"All the hate"? "Grammar police"? Be serious.
What are you, the "grammar police police"?
Zach @ May 16th 2008 9:16AM
Yes, I am the grammar police police. Deal with it.
uclatommy @ May 16th 2008 3:42PM
@chris: are you the grammar police police police?
FYI, I am the grammar police police police police.

Me want to work when me want to work. Most of the time me want to just chill or whatever, or just hang with me beetches.
marc @ May 15th 2008 5:18PM
Shouldn't they be able to hit 1 Ghz before they go dual-core?
bartoron @ May 15th 2008 5:38PM
They hit that a long time ago.

digitallysick @ May 15th 2008 6:03PM
The point of via is to not hit high clock rates, but to to have a very low heat/power consuming chip.
tekman94 @ May 15th 2008 7:23PM
The only question I have is, are they as good as Intel and AMD for basic stuff (word processing, internet, email, etc.). Also are they as cheap, if so if i ever get the money and ambition to build a Linux system I might look into these.
thehumanyawn @ May 15th 2008 8:35PM
With what they've done on 90nm, I can't wait to see what they're going to do with 45nm.
Korgmeister @ May 15th 2008 10:00PM
VIA have an irritating habit about talking about a chip for long time before they actually hit the market. I'll consider the possibility of dual core VIA chips next year plausible if VIA manage to ship the Isiah in June like they said they would.
And that's a pretty big if.

via was supposed to have dual core processors like 3 years ago...
