Fujitsu's LifeBook U2010 up close
While yesterday's minuscule shot of this Atom-based UMPC explained the form factor quite well, this here picture shows the unit in a much better light. Otherwise there's little new info on this U2010 from Fujitsu, but that $1,300 pricepoint isn't a great start. Was this whole "Atom is cheaper" thing just a cruel, cruel myth?

Maybe they just meant cheaper for them
Oh snaps! You actually thought they were talking about you? tsk tsk tsk.
The "Race to the bottom" seems to have forgot where the finish line is supposed to be.
that looks so military. I love it!
$1300?
no thanks
It'll almost certainly be cheaper than that for the US release. The U1010 was like $1500 overseas, but got released for $1000 in the US.
Remember that this thing is much smaller than the eeePC or any of the other competitors, and actually has a touchscreen.
This is just a re-introduced UMPC failure. Fujitsu failed with the same device(u810, u1010) last year but here we have Atom in it and at the same high price as before. Mindless decision by DipShit-su.
hahaha DipShit-su reminds me of a shih tzu
Hmm, a failure huh? I have one and I wouldn't call it that. Works well enough for me. The name calling really makes you look all grown up :-)
I can't see paying $1,300 for a UMPC when I can get a regular, more powerful lappie for cheaper. :-\
I can't see paying $500 for a laptop when I can get a regular more powerful desktop for cheaper :/
The point of UMPCs is not to be less expensive than regular notebooks. The point is to be a very small general purpose computer you can have anywhere. But it is a very awkward goal, I had a Samsung Q1 Ultra and it was pretty awful to use, especially because of the keyboard. This might be a better solution.
Keep in mind that's a Centrino Atom, and not a normal Atom....not sure if that justifies the price difference or not.
That is a riduculous price, HP has tablet PCs tx2000 series starting at $900 with a lot more beef/functionality than this. Around $1,100 and you've got a machine with 3GB ddr2 ram, dual-core 2.2Ghz proc, 250GB sata hdd and wacom touchscreen.
I'll easily pass on this one.
Yeah sure, cheaper as in it's cheaper for them to make it, so they can mark it up by about a grand! :-O
Tho it is a very pretty UMPC. D:
Is it just me or does that look a lot like a ZX spectrum with a display?
it seems that people forget the size of this thing...its tiny...some people pay for that pocket(purse)ability. If it doesn't sell at 1300 then the price will drop accordingly.
See this is one of the reasons why we need AMD and VIA to step up their game so intel does not get away with charging these outrageous prices for these types of mobile CPU.
Sure think what you want about AMD or VIA but you can't deny that the competition does help to land a laptop in your hands much sooner and $xxx less.
Fujitsu set the price of this umpc not Intel. Just because Fujitsu gave it a high price doesn't mean Intel is charging too much for their processor. Fujitsu generally charges a lot for their products.
Specs please!
Nice improved keyboard compared to the U810...I spy a TAB key and right-shift!
I want a Close-Up of that keyboard. I got the first rev and it sits unused because overused Function key.
Now if they would only make the screen bigger. (move those speakers)
I wonder if this could be use with two hands thumb typing? I have seen the previous model and it looked to bulky to me and not very pocketable. Why can't they make the device the size of the screen or the screen the size of the device? To me anytime I see a device with a screen 2/3 the size its size, I automatically think its a rip-off from the vendor. And with everything in these things costing less to make, I still don't understand why smaller computers are more expensive than the bigger better ones, asides from desktops of course.
