John Mayer secures a BlackBerry Bold, makes world envious
See how easy it is everyone? All that's required to snag a BlackBerry Bold well before its public release is to become a Grammy award-winning artist, sell out shows worldwide, date a smattering of superstars and convince Fender to create and sell your own branded guitar. While you're off working on step one, John Mayer is living it up with his brand new BlackBerry Bold. Granted, he can't claim to be the very first with said handset, but it's likely the first completely legitimate edition let loose. Of course, once you've landed the Curve and MacBook Air before everyone else on the planet, snagging a Bold is just child's play.

I think RIM is doing an awesome job keeping their phone up to date - a lot of companies forget that its not just the hardware but also the software. Would like to see if this update is more than just skin deep - hardware and software wise.
RIM looks like they are paying attention to both and will certainly give Apple a run for its money.
Still happy with my iPhone - but it's good to see RIM doing its homework. Cant say the same for the sorry offerings from Palm and WiMo.
sk8rpro @ May 16th 2008 11:48PM
Woooow! Cool phone - just look at the low battery power!
John Mayer Here, @ May 17th 2008 12:18AM
Just thought I'd let you guys know I'm banging Jennifer Anniston while posting with my new Bold. TTYL.
Cuthbert @ May 17th 2008 10:36AM
Is it my imagination, or is this screen on the Bold very small? Part of Blackerry's useability is that they have decent sized screens - I would have second thoughts about this one if they have shrunk it any further.
john @ May 16th 2008 3:47PM
He's such a d-bag that they should take it away from him!
Khris @ May 16th 2008 4:49PM
Here is definitive proof that he's a bona fide douchebag.
Check out his blog post from May 1st.

Wow. Is that guy for real ? Damn. talk about being full of himself...
J. sykes @ May 16th 2008 7:29PM
Wow...
its called a joke.
I mean do you seriously thing celebs can't have a sense of humor?
That blog entry is no different then myspace trash about trying to light your farts.
He's having fun, rich, and has a Bold.
Off the man's nuts.
Khris @ May 17th 2008 12:08AM
"Off the man's nuts."
Sorry, are we keeping you from attaching yourself?
moo083 @ May 16th 2008 3:47PM
I'm not really all that excited. Whats the point of a touch screen if its too small to be worth using?
ohshhitscarl @ May 16th 2008 3:48PM
The bold isn't touch screen?
generally @ May 16th 2008 3:49PM
Better yet, what's the point of a touchscreen if it isn't actually a touchscreen?
I don't think it's a touchscreen, at least not from what I've heard.
Stelios Philippou @ May 16th 2008 5:32PM
Even if they take it away from him .... helll just get him self another one .... just like that
Brendan Sheehan @ May 16th 2008 6:28PM
I don't care what anyone says, Apple has the whole industry (including RIM) all confused. Like it lump it the iPhone did actually change the whole industry. They behave and are trying to imitate the iPhone. And I don't care who buries my comment, try to say that's not true and you're only fooling yourself.
A "dock" of icons similar to the iPhone along the bottom of the screen, the chrome rim around the whole edge, and then finally the full touch screen thunder coming later this year.
Go on say it: "touch screen phones were out there before the iPhone!
Bla, bla, bla, bla.... bla.
Music players were out there before the iPod. It means nothing. The iPhone is changing the whole phone world and koolaid has got nothing to do with it. Taste, a revolutionary user interface, good management of the iPhone team, talent, vision and direction are the reasons for this. Simple as.
mufdvr3669 @ May 16th 2008 8:34PM
@ Brenden - Dood It's not even a touchscreen. How can you say the copied the iphone? Iphone totally copied the razr, cause you make calls and stuff on it. Must be true cause I said so.
Dr. Evil @ May 17th 2008 3:40PM
If anything, it looks like a Moto Q which was out well before the iPhone.
This has nothing to do with the iPhone. The iPhone has a large screen for multimedia purposes. The screen on the Bold is more than large enough for business purposes such as email, text, calendar. Furthermore, I would much rather have a hard keyboard than the iPhone soft keyboard which is not all that easy or quick to use.
It's silly to compare every new phone to the iPhone. Not everyone wants and iPhone. I don't.

John Mayer, here:
My Bold doesn't work and I need it repaired ASAP!
Tony @ May 16th 2008 4:20PM
Lies!
Jessica Simpson @ May 16th 2008 7:19PM
Why don't you ever return my phone calls?
AJ in the East Bay @ May 16th 2008 10:39PM
Because you gave me the clap, Jessica! You skank!
paul @ May 16th 2008 3:50PM
John Mayer seems to need a lot of attention.
Khris @ May 16th 2008 4:44PM
My feelings exactly!
"I'm John Mayer! Look at me! I'm important because I'll shill for Apple and RIM! Aren't I precious??"
roflercopterer @ May 16th 2008 4:59PM
Psh...if I got a gadget that wasn't out yet I'd share my impressions too...
gtfo
Khris @ May 16th 2008 6:56PM
And there lies the problem.......he didn't share any "impressions". Essentially it was a "Look at me, I've got a BB Bold" post and nothing more.
Phillip Hatfield @ May 16th 2008 3:51PM
Nice.
Awboy @ May 16th 2008 3:51PM
Bastard.....can we force him to put it on EBay?
waiownsyou @ May 16th 2008 5:05PM
If he puts it on eBay, he won't be the first to get RIM's BlackBerry Italics.
Matthew @ May 16th 2008 3:52PM
I don't think anyone is envious of that fatty Engadget. This looks pretty much like a treo with a smaller screen. They're going the wrong way. Screens need to be longer and touch. It's the future folks.
CUBSWILLWIN @ May 16th 2008 3:59PM
weel, compared in looks, that is one of the best looking phones after the iphone. note I said ONE of the best. There are a bunch of other good lookers, but this is like michael jordan to a little kindergardener in basketball when compared to a treo. It isn't that fat anyways.
Phillip Hatfield @ May 16th 2008 3:52PM
5/5
Keith @ May 16th 2008 3:53PM
um...someone needs to charge up...QUICK!
Evan @ May 16th 2008 3:56PM
It's so random that he gets pre-rel. stuff. Do the companies who give it to him really think he's going to give apple the boot, and start endorsing them?
George @ May 16th 2008 4:30PM
More importantly, why does John Mayer's endorsement matter in the first place?
JT @ May 17th 2008 12:49AM
RIM sponsored his tour IIRC.
Elliott @ May 16th 2008 3:57PM
So he has a Bold and a Curve.....WHY?
OziD @ May 16th 2008 6:10PM
so when you get new phones do you use the old ones as well?
what makes you think he does that? he had the curve before the general population is what they are saying.
roro2210 @ May 16th 2008 3:57PM
Its times like these that make you wanna be famous :(
Low Ranked @ May 16th 2008 4:06PM
Oh, that poor, poor early adopter.
Michael @ May 16th 2008 4:11PM
Umm...why are the icons all white again? I thought the press image showed that the icons were getting a splash of color, which I think they really need imho.
Andrew @ May 16th 2008 6:13PM
Probably a different theme, the theme currently active is probably 1 of 3 or 4 RIM has installed by default
funkright @ May 16th 2008 4:12PM
who gives a sh*t...?
The Dude @ May 16th 2008 4:19PM
Why's BlackBerry working political correctness? "Bold"? It's fat; call it fat. Not bold, thick, curvy, plus-sized or big-boned. It's a fuckin' chubster.
TriZz @ May 16th 2008 4:24PM
The Dude abides.
Gingerbread Man @ May 16th 2008 4:26PM
That screen blows!!!!!! It's so tiny. You dont even need a trackball, all you need is a left or right button for the menu.
DanH @ May 16th 2008 4:29PM
Have you even used a BlackBerry before? It doesn't sound like it.
DanH @ May 16th 2008 4:29PM
His douchebaggery knows no bounds. I want his phone, though.
Joe @ May 16th 2008 4:38PM
Cite sources, please.
PS3guy @ May 16th 2008 4:30PM
The screen on that phone look small.
DanH @ May 16th 2008 4:34PM
Small compared to what? It matches the resolution, but not the size, of the screen on the iPhone.
