Shinoda Plasma showcases 125-inch curved PTA display
Surely you remember Shinoda Plasma and its obscenely large PTA display, right? Unfortunately, this one's no 142-incher, but 125-inches of curvaceous screen real estate still isn't anything to sneeze at -- especially when we're talking about an actual prototype. The 3- x 1-meter display consists of three PTA (plasma tube array) modules connected together, and it features a rather uninspiring 960 x 360 resolution but weighs just 7.9-pounds. The actual "display part" measures just one-millimeter thick, and while this unit is likely to make a veiled appearance at InfoComm next month, a mass produced version will reportedly be produced in conjunction with Hibino. Honest opinion? We're still feelin' the resolution of Alienware's curved monster, but digital signage fans should certainly dig where this one is headed.

CRYSIS.
VERY HIGH.
3 x1 meters....
Yeah, that'll look great in 960 x 360...
My 14.5" LCD at 1024x768 >>> Above.
I don't remember. And don't call me Shirley.
I would GLADLY wear a dome helmet coupled to a spherical projector and play halo 3 / gta 4 / GT5 all friggen day.
I want more than a curved screen. I want massive field of view in all directions, not just horizontally.
So I figure I'll just need about 6 or so of these screens :)
Now that our televisions have gone flat, wide and in high definition, are curved screens going to be the next evolutionary step in flat panel displays?
I remember seeing a curved iMac concept awhile back so it's got me wondering.
Is that resolution a typo or a really cruel joke?
Than has to be a joke and a funny one at that lol
And the weight- 7.9 pounds? Ha. The stand alone must weigh ten times that.
Something must have been lost in translation:
"It has 960 x 360 resolution and uses 600W at maximum"
600W ?!?!?!?! That means that if I turn on my 1kW supply with this display, I will be spending more per hour than driving around in my car...
I'll take 6 of them. Then use a monitor splitter (joiner?) to get 1920x1080 by combining them into one big monitor. 6 video cards (or three duel head ones) would do the trick as well I guess.
The thing is I actually have a wall in my house where I could put 6 of them.
Duel? So you're going to have the video cards count ten pixels and draw?
9, you mean?
I thought that was a window... Wow.
um. resolution?
I cannot wait until curved displays become commonplace. Ya know, from what I've always been told, they chose the 4:3 aspect ratio because they believed it was the closest to the human's visual aspect ratio, and then wide screen came out and took a HUGE step in the wrong direction. Sure, they added more resolution, but they could have kept the aspect the same, while upping the res. (the main reasoning behind going wide screen was just because thats how films have always been shot, which is not adequate justification by any means)
Anyways, point is, I'm really looking forward to more immersive displays, and I hope we see a shift towards making films and screens in general as catered to the human visual field.
I think its dumb, you can see the line that divides the panels. Its not horrible but its not as classy looking as Alienwares curved monitor.
while you're at it, join 16 of these bad boys, then have fun finding a way out :)
Sorry, not for me - I don't know s**t from Shinoda...
Looks like the top half is missing
When it said PTA I though it was for PTA meetings, and was like ''whoa, those teachers and parents are living it large aren't they, must be for beverly hills'
I bet in britain they do have lots of footage of the kids for PTA meetings though, what with all the cameras there.
