RAmos V8 appears in the flesh
We thought the RAmos V8 was looking pretty sleek in render form, but now that some real pictures of the black PMP with the 4.3-inch screen and 16GB of storage have surfaced, we're really impressed -- with how much this thing looks like an iPod touch. (We'll be here all week, folks!) Of course, the V8's codec support is way better, but without pricing info and a look at that UI we're not ready to call this one a winner quite yet. Let us know if you hit China next month, okay?

courtenay27 @ May 19th 2008 9:25AM
"i" could have had a V8.
...I know I'm two days behind on the story and that was some pretty lame word play but I'm at my desk at work and I couldn't resist...sorry...

How many different ways are there to make a slim, full-screen MP4 player anyway? Likeness to the iPod touch is inevitable...
Blaktornado @ May 17th 2008 10:42AM
They could make it circular?
telepheedian @ May 17th 2008 11:04AM
They could make the edges less rounded, but then it would look somewhat like a Zune 80.
Richard Lai @ May 17th 2008 11:13AM
I agree with Blaktornado: they'll just have to speak to LG about it.

Until LG takes over the world with a circular television, I doubt there's much point in a circular MP4 player ;)

well despite bloggers tendency to say everything looks like something... usually an iSomething. this product does look pretty similar to an ipod touch. from the bezel to the back.
Michael @ May 18th 2008 3:09AM
This is true. But why does everyone want every new product to be such a departure from something else? Personally I think the iPod Touch is a great device, but it's missing some things I'd really like. If some other company can make a device that's just like the iPod Touch and then improve on it in some ways then more power to them. I mean why constantly reinvent the wheel? Technological evolution is noticing the things someone else did right and making them better.

hey nilay, post a better picture man. cant make out anything on this pic.
Richard Lai @ May 17th 2008 11:11AM
By the way, that company's name literally translates from Chinese into "Blue Monster".
Ivand @ May 17th 2008 11:25AM
gotta love google translations
AlekZander @ May 17th 2008 11:31AM
Blue demons? In my music player? Aaaaarrrggghhh...

The lack of design innovation in the PMP business is really quite sad.
So much talent, so little creativity....
Yuri @ May 17th 2008 11:44AM
But it works, no?
Think, the square or rectangular design is a given. The rounded edges make it a little nicer, though my P2 doesn't have that and goes for the sharp edges.
Now full-screens are nice for the fact that these are for multimedia. I don't really watch movies on my P2, but at least the option is available, on a larger screen. Do you like watching movies on a Nano screen? Ugh, it's not even worth it.
So because Apple made a basic rectangle, with curved edges and nothing but a full screen on the front, the design is now very unoriginal.
I think that's a bad way to compare PMPs now. There were PMPs that looked simple before Apple came around, and Apple was just the only ones to actually get the word out and market it. Because the only good thing Apple can do is make pretty products and actually advertise, everything is compared to them.
I think Apple products are nice, don't get me wrong, but it's sad that that's all we can compare things to...

Here's a picture where you can actually see it:

The fit and finish look like they could use some work.
Eric @ May 17th 2008 12:18PM
Well, according to the headline, it is made of flesh.
Maybe it's going through those "awkward teenage years."
Timothy @ May 17th 2008 1:53PM
Looking very sharp. Would be interesting to feel the texture of the case, by the pictures it looks like its not so much smooth but with a feel that would aid in gripping the device.
max Walker @ May 17th 2008 5:52PM
The finish clearly identifies it as NOT an Apple product.
However, a crappy finish isn't really a good product differentiation technique
crescentdavid @ May 17th 2008 7:05PM
@ max: tell me, what pic showed you it's "crappy finish," just out of curiosity. Was it this one? http://images.imp3.net/article/2008/05/15/020008.jpg
HeYo @ May 18th 2008 10:20AM
@ crescentdavid
Didn't you see the first image? looks like crappy finish and edge detailing to me.

No, its the real one at the top of the article showing how poorly the screen is mounted to the bezel. In the one you show, it a glossy look at the chrome backing - and might even then have been 'shopped'.
Aaron @ May 18th 2008 10:42AM
I'll be in China next month. I'll keep my eyes open for this one.
