Swashbot sashays his way into our hearts
Most bug-inspired robots do a much better job of creeping us out than giving us the warm fuzzies, but this here Swashbot R/C robot from Crabfu is just too cute for words. It kind of looks like he's trying to find his little robot buddies so they can sing a song about slushies before nap time, while simultaneously dragging a cinder block behind him. You know, cute. Video is after the break.

Just the head kinda reminds me of those robots from "Batteries Not Included". I love that film.
ddub @ May 17th 2008 4:59PM
I thought the same thing, although these come with Rayovac apparantly.

Reminds me of the droidekas from Star wars.
stitifier @ May 17th 2008 4:58PM
Except, you know, CUTE. Like a baby Droideka, before it gets all mean and nasty and tries to kill Jedi.

Looks like theres gonna be some sore fingers from the way he has to turn the robot @ 2:47
But yea it would be cool to put some longer arms and back bone on that thing and maybe an electric saw.... and battle Pleo..lol
tubes @ May 23rd 2008 3:30AM
looks like one of those 'battle ants' from Starfleet :)
Ayman @ May 17th 2008 5:55PM

OMG I wish I could make one with six (or more) legs. Imagine how cool that little critter would look if it could actually move like an insect. Maybe our future toy robot companions don't have to look like baby seals or dinosaurs. Just don't swat it.
Deed @ May 17th 2008 7:13PM
Man what.
Two LEDs, four servos and a battery pack? Sounds simple enough to make at my fucking school. Perhaps too simple for year 11 engineering, but surely this would've been simple enough for a year 9 project, which would've been far better spent than making crappy maze games/light-sensing meters.
Want one of these so badly.
SOOPERGOOMAN @ May 17th 2008 10:13PM
I see Military Contract! Camo them as real crabs, send em into battle and noone will be the wiser. I want 10. These would be great if they came out for Christmas. Hey you all must know about Mario and the Micro heli's before the havoc stuff came out.
jasenj1 @ May 17th 2008 10:23PM
Right. Projects that capture the imagination and lead people to bigger and better things are helpful. But, genius goes to those who can see through the "crappy" exercises to the captivating and enpowering things like this guy.
Technex @ May 17th 2008 6:05PM
You're joking me right, he's using the same TX as me and I think the same G-Force neck strap balancer :D.
This guy is awesome he even has a cute cat.
I think the servos are from a Blade 400, they sound pretty weak so they must be :D.
Technex @ May 17th 2008 6:09PM
Well, I might as well use the reply button as there's no edit lol. Nah, it's not the g-force neck balancer, looked at mine lol.
I could build one of these, I have all those parts laying around, real cool this is. I might just go ahead and build one I dunno!
Take a look at his other videos :D.
Technex @ May 17th 2008 6:13PM
NO WAY! Just went to his site, man it's like me but rich. It's got everything I'm interested in, awesome! AH so this is the guy that made the steam turbine RC tank!!
There's also a V2 of swashbot!
jasenj1 @ May 17th 2008 10:18PM
"I could build one of these, I have all those parts laying around, real cool this is. I might just go ahead and build one I dunno!"
And that's what separates genius-types from the rest of us. Sure, you have all the parts, and maybe even the technical ability to do the same thing. But do you? Do you have the patience and determination to develop the plan, execute it, refine it? That's what often separates people of amazing ability from the rest of us: The willingness to execute. The strength of will to spend hours DOING something rather than getting bored or stuck and go back to watching TV or playing video games or whatever.
Joe Commisso @ May 17th 2008 6:32PM
I want a whole army of these!

Where's the kaboom? There was supposed to be an Earth shattering kaboom? The the eludium pu36 explosive space modulator. That creature has stolen the space modulator. Delays, delays. Capture that creature, and return the eludium pu36 explosive space modulator!
Bob @ May 17th 2008 11:43PM
Neat, sort of looks like an ant.

Shawn Khamenehe @ Jun 5th 2008 11:24PM
It's pretty much just CCPM servos and a air receiver with a DX7 mixed for CCPM...
Broken down:
This is nothing imo, all the controls and mixing have already been programmed on the controller by default...even he's using E-Flite servos, those are crap...should be using some Futaba S3154 or S3156
Zorque @ May 18th 2008 4:44AM
It's killed before, and it's waiting to kill again.
Maverick Saturn @ May 18th 2008 8:31AM
Just you wait, this is the beginning of the end, robots will take over the world!
On the other hand, it looks quite nifty, What can it do exactly ¬_¬
Add a built in cam.
