Sony Ericsson video shows two new handset renderings
A video doing the rounds on the interblogs is apparently showcasing not one but two new Sony Ericsson handsets. It's unclear just exactly what models we're seeing in the clip, nor do we know if they're prototypes or actual production versions, though they do bear a few similarities to the forthcoming X1. One thing is for sure, Sony is definitely pushing the convergence angle on its new phones, highlighting lots of multimedia, data sharing, and a suspiciously familiar chat app. Check out another pic and the full video after the break.

The video is apparently two years old (but has only recently been released to the public) - so I wouldn't count on seeing exactly these two devices anytime soon.
Esat Dedezade @ May 18th 2008 3:13PM
Wow.
That video, showed me NOTHING about the product, bar a few unimformative glances.
Unless off course the phone is a 3d colourful holgraphic room and sound filling projector when you dock it.
If it is, then I'll buy three.
CUBSWILLWIN @ May 18th 2008 3:17PM
everyone is getting their iphone competitor moods on. Looks like a total touchscreen phone
Eastman @ May 18th 2008 3:17PM

Kusk @ May 18th 2008 3:21PM

X-BLADE @ May 18th 2008 3:18PM
I say some sort of iPhone killer
paul @ May 18th 2008 11:02PM
Even comes with a rootkit pre-installed. Awesome! Thanks Sony!
Fernando @ May 18th 2008 3:36PM
I don't get it, why is the chat app familiar?
Also lulz, touchscreen = iphone killer
Fernando @ May 18th 2008 3:37PM
Ah! I see it now, looks like iChat, I was thinking about mobile IM apps :P
Mikey @ May 18th 2008 8:16PM
Yeah, looks like it runs iChat.
Something the iPhone can't even do!!
Don @ May 18th 2008 3:46PM
I see one new phone with a sliding mechanism similar to the Nokia N95. Screen slides to reveal more functions.
Saad Rabia @ May 18th 2008 3:47PM
Another pointless video from a huge company showing nothing but floating images of a "Minority Report" style of life, and actors who can't sync their body movements and heads to all that 3D stuff flying around, all to tell you that this handheld device plays music, communicates with others, and shares stuff all over the place, Yuppiii.
Am I the only who finds this video style very, VERY overused?
Why can't product ads and demonstrations be like the iPhone ads? emphasize on the product for the love of god! (I swear I don't own an iPhone, but these videos are going to make me shift very very soon)
James Cameron @ May 18th 2008 4:11PM
Good, then why don't you?
Ever heard of a teaser?
Wwhat @ May 18th 2008 4:55PM
Excuse me but I think the actors do the movement and stuff and then later animation is put in and it's the animators that should sync it, not the actors, the actors just have to pretend they see stuff in empty space according to a script.
At least that's how it's normally done AFAIK.
Saad Rabia @ May 18th 2008 5:01PM
@James: ever heard of an overused teaser style? It becomes boring and dead.
@Wwhat: My problem is that the actors act like if they are looking at a camera rather than looking at an actual object, I know it is hard to act stuff like that but, these days people are doing it on YouTube way better than this video shows.
My main point in general is the overuse of this ad or teaser technique, enough with the Minority Report thingy.
James Cameron @ May 18th 2008 5:50PM
Yeah maybe overuse to you. But commercial like this sell a products. Maybe you should try creating your own product and produced an uninspired commercial and see who will give an ass crap about your product.
Saad Rabia @ May 18th 2008 5:58PM
Thank you James for the advice.
ScooterDe @ May 19th 2008 2:12AM
this emphasizes lifestyle in order to position Sony with those who identify themselves in this age bracket, with similar interests e.g. multimedia, friends and family, sharing, modernity, fun, etc.
It is a common approach, but it is not about a specific product model. Instead it is about the product category (portable multimedia communications). The idea is to position the brand first and foremost, so that target consumers (e.g. young adults with disposable incomes) will be inclined to Sony products in future.
Ankur @ May 18th 2008 4:07PM
Was that a SE ad or a Microsoft Touch wall?
ThisIsTheChris @ May 18th 2008 4:09PM
There's an XMB kinda flavour to that video.
Austin Gregg-Smith @ May 18th 2008 4:34PM
That make me vomit a little
Imran @ May 18th 2008 5:55PM
Cursed Bulemia.
dBs @ May 18th 2008 4:59PM
Video down =X
dBs @ May 18th 2008 5:03PM
Must have had the page loaded and idle for too long. Working now. Commercial is useless for anything more than the screen shots already captured. That song sounds familiar. Mix of Tiesto or Van Dyke?
Drew @ May 18th 2008 5:20PM
Clearly a Rip-Off clone of the "HiPHone"
They are all jealous of the "shake control"
Imran @ May 18th 2008 5:55PM
So the long haired thing at the start and smiling at the woman was a man?
famm113 @ May 18th 2008 6:00PM
Not sure that sold anything. Orgy of colors and techno playing with a little bit phone in the mix. I guess that's marketing now...? Demo's with phone features are so underrated sigh......:(
Jeff @ May 18th 2008 6:32PM
Could they have picked a douchier looking kid?
yikes.
Brendan Sheehan @ May 18th 2008 6:57PM
Be nice
Fernando @ May 18th 2008 8:20PM
or else...
Tony @ May 18th 2008 11:50PM
I will tell...
ill trooper @ May 18th 2008 11:52PM
'Douchier?' Is that French for French? Do I pronounce the 'r'?
Still using the word 'douche' in 2008 is the linguistic equivalent of tripping over your own shoelace - coulda been avoided if you were smarter.
The comments on gizmodo concerning that fey model-stalker are far more clever, and hence, funnier.
Jeff @ May 19th 2008 12:49AM
@ill trooper.
Sometimes a word is just perfectly appropriate. ...even if you've decided it's clumsy.
take another look at the kid in the video. I challenge you to imagine a creature "douchier" - i certainly cannot. ...though maybe our understanding of the language differs.
(PS: I'm not sure you should lecture me about the timeliness of a word when you still use "ill" as part of your moniker.)
jaykeeley @ May 18th 2008 7:05PM
they look like the same phone, but slid up slightly
Brock @ May 18th 2008 7:19PM
The message of this ad is that if you buy one of these products, you will act like you had a lobotomy, but it won't matter because you will be dead and live in heaven (indicated by the "What Dreams My Come" environment.)
andraz @ May 18th 2008 8:01PM
obviously it WILL turn you into an EMO :D
Rusty @ May 18th 2008 8:06PM
Ok, this is going to sound like a silly question, but does it still work as a
PHONE?
Kspraydad @ May 18th 2008 8:20PM
I love me some XMB.
ryan @ May 18th 2008 10:55PM
how incredibly generic.
Rom @ May 19th 2008 12:34AM
with this kind of new phone video blogging will be much exciting
anabouboula @ May 19th 2008 2:50AM
Take that Apple!
Vit @ May 19th 2008 3:26AM
iPhone is so yesterday! BTW, why is it any Upcoming touch screen phone should be labeled "iPhone killer" ? Touch screen was available way before iPhone, and from SE as well. Can it be just 'new SE phone', with no comparisons?

"Technology: 3.5G+, AGPS+, UMTS+, HSDPA+"

"New Technologies:

Just how "new" is that? Available now in Samsung(?) product.
"Microprojecter: 2 meter distance viewing"
2 meter distance? What for? Micro projectors will be available this year, some products have them already.
"Video messaging: streaming, clips, sharing"
Available now, limited by current data transfer speed and applications used.
"Virtualization: only via bluetooth googles or sensor fitted conf room.
Virtualization not available in outdoors"
Give me a reason for that... Privacy/paranoia rules?
"product under theory...

Why wait till 2012?! Get some funds, software and hardware engineers and you can make it this year!

I think a good image advertising.
However, the image of Touch is not exceeded.
An advertising man is making cannot a wipe of the image of Touch.
To think so.

No way the guy in the clip is straight!!
