Nintendo's Wii Fit gets official, set to launch in just two days
If for some reason you've been so far outside of the natural world that you were unaware of Nintendo's impending Wii Fit firestorm, this should get you back in the swing of things. Today the big N has made the forthcoming release of the exercise / gaming sensation officially official in the States. The device is available exclusively at the Nintendo World store in New York City starting today, but will hit other shelves on May 21st, will run you a thrifty $89.99, and launches with software containing more than 40 activities. Of course, you'll never get to experience any of those activities, as there's already a run on stock, and if you haven't pre-ordered then you're pretty much left to the whim of eBay sellers and their inflated prices. Thanks Nintendo!

WTF? I've seen a May 19th and a May 21st release date, what gives?
Ignatius @ May 19th 2008 8:57AM
Where I work, the boxes say do not sell til 5/21, so I guess it's the 21st. :P
fraz @ May 19th 2008 9:23AM
true, except (I don't know where you bought it) $90 is still way way cheaper than £70 for peeps in the uk...
LiQuiD_FuSioN @ May 19th 2008 9:36AM
Wow, I thought this thing was already released. -_-
mymaclife @ May 19th 2008 10:13AM
Too f**cking lazy to get their act together.
They should do another version for the less active and call it Wii Fat
Neg2LED @ May 19th 2008 8:28PM
I already have a wii fit. YAY AUSTRALIANS GETTING IT TWO WEEKS AGO!
Gav @ May 19th 2008 8:55AM
I have one...
Purely so I can say I have a gadget released in Europe before in the States.
Mitch @ May 20th 2008 6:28AM
had one for two weeks in Australia..
mingistech @ May 19th 2008 9:00AM
Odd... My buddy works in the Target electronics dept and told me they already have then in stock and will be selling them on Tuesday the 20th.
Don't they always release new titles on Tuesdays anyways?
Kakairo @ May 19th 2008 11:16AM
The Target newspaper ad says that they will start selling them at 8AM on Wednesday. I hope they stick to that, since I plan on lining up at my local store.
El Taco @ May 19th 2008 10:15PM
Usually, Nintendo releases games on Sundays. They launched the Wii on a sunday, they launched Mario Galaxy on a sunday, Super Smash Bros on a Sunday, and Mario Kart on a Sunday. Wednesday is different for Nintendo.
Eric M. @ May 19th 2008 9:07AM
89.99? Psssh running around the block for hours is free.
Dan @ May 19th 2008 9:43AM
Yeah. When I was younger we just used to stare at a barrel for entertainment too.
Eric M. @ May 19th 2008 10:43AM
Yeah. When I was younger we used to actually get up do something to keep ourselves entertained. It might not have been the smartest of things to do, but I digress.
dawggpie @ May 20th 2008 10:05AM
Nintendo needs to hire some of Apple's supply chain and manufacturing specialists. If Apple can more of less meet iPhone demand at launch, Nintendo definitely should be able to meet demand on some silly piece of plastic.
the tansman @ May 19th 2008 9:11AM
I thought we agreed no more headlines with "gets official."
Pochi @ May 19th 2008 9:20AM
I know, and things were going so well with that "gets legit" headline a few days ago...
: (
the tansman @ May 19th 2008 9:30AM
I take issue more with the "gets" than the "official."
eddy @ May 19th 2008 9:12AM
I was notified that my pre-order had shipped the other day. Can't wait. A little bummed that there's limited multi-player functionality, but my wife and I will just swap off.
Nate @ May 19th 2008 9:57AM
Same here. I preordered from Sams. It's scheduled to be delivered on the 21st.
I really think Nintendo's missing the boat on the multiplayer, too. They could have had me for two of these things. Hopefully this will be remedied down the road.
gus @ May 19th 2008 9:18AM
pfft... been out in Australia for a week and a half.
Tragedy @ May 19th 2008 9:22AM

Kip HT @ May 19th 2008 9:38AM

"I was SURE I saw this a week ago"
Troels C @ May 19th 2008 10:16AM
I have one on my living room floor right now. I guess the launch date in Denmark must have been earlier for too.
Arsonism @ May 19th 2008 9:26AM
If you didn' t pre-order and can't find one, I'm sure that stores like Sam's Club and Wal-Mart will have them in stock, at least for the first few days.
STNC @ May 19th 2008 9:32AM
I preordered mine
Oinquer @ May 19th 2008 10:02AM

Jay @ May 19th 2008 12:06PM
We have a bit of an obesity problem here in the states. We can't be expected to pay the same price as the rest of the world AND still afford our supersized burger meals.
Exile @ May 19th 2008 7:20PM
€99?!?!? WTF??
In the UK we only paid £69.99 (thats about €88!!)
m0m0 @ May 20th 2008 12:43AM
it's high time you realize that europe ALWAYS get shafted. but, be glad you're not living in a developing country, like I am. you'll get a bigger shaft up your ass buying consoles and accessories. Of course, developing countries have their own "perks" along with it.
Rob @ May 19th 2008 10:55AM
I had mine since last week.

Yeah what? My friend has it... dunno if he imported it or something but he was saying something about Best Buy at the time...
friendlyner @ May 19th 2008 11:10AM
I did a pre-order at Toys R Us and was told I could pick it up after 5:00 on the 20th. I hope they were right...I feel fat.
kal326 @ May 19th 2008 11:10AM
Wonder if I play Guitar Hero and Wii Fit at the same time if I will become a healthy musician.....yeah didn't think so......
Rob @ May 19th 2008 1:00PM
It's nice of all you to say you have one already.
It would be much more helpful to get a review!
Richhh @ May 19th 2008 1:19PM
yeah, theyre crap...
Ethan @ May 19th 2008 12:01PM
If there's no backlash against this in America of all things I'll be surprised. You have to smile at people for 20 minutes on a shopping channel before telling people they're fat.
Thi mam(kris120890) @ May 19th 2008 12:11PM
this things does'nt even work.
nintendo have been giving out apologies because it wiifit has been telling kids they are overweight even when they are fitter than most other kids.
Nintendo said sorry because the wii fit does'nt process numbers correctly.
David @ May 19th 2008 12:11PM
Went to the Rock Center Nintendo store this morning. They had plenty on hand. I waited in line for an hour... and was at the end of the line the whole time. I hate when the happens.
I'm sure if you show up now there would be no line.
Ethan @ May 19th 2008 6:35PM
I hate that too! Having suffered it is alleviating to know there's someone worse off than you... maybe I'm just evil.
Silverfrog @ May 19th 2008 12:12PM
In my opinion, $90 would be better spent on a good pair of running shoes. Or, if you prefer, take an actual real-life Yoga class with a real instructor. Great way to meet girls. The one I know of has about 80% girls.
Andir3.0 @ May 19th 2008 2:46PM
* very flexible girls ;)
yusuke @ May 19th 2008 12:27PM
I picked one up at the Nintendo World store also. I only waited about 20 min. It's probably a little crazier now since it's lunch time
Jon @ May 19th 2008 12:46PM
Does anybody know if in the American version if you can use metric units for weight/height? Does Canada use the US version or do they have their own?
Richhh @ May 19th 2008 1:19PM
confirmed?
i thought it being out and on sale was beyond confirmed...
i think you mean confirmed for america (Y)
Scott Smith @ May 19th 2008 1:51PM
Let's hope this isn't used as a fitness crutch, or worse yet, promoted as one:

Where's the status on Ryan's workout program? :)
hairbug @ May 19th 2008 3:34PM
I think it's pretty terrible to charge $50 more to people in the UK for exactly the same hardware. There's nothing different, is there? I can occasionally understand that it costs more for on some occasions, but how can they justify $50?
