Teclast T50 PMP reviewed on video, shows off totally aped UI
We'll admit, we had our suspicions that Teclast's capacitive multitouch-packing T50 would arrive with an eerily similar user interface to some other device out there, and a ten minute video review recently tossed up by MP4Nation thoroughly confirms those fears. In all seriousness, this thing may actually not be a half bad unit, but whether or not you're really interested in such an impostor, it's worth checking the video after the jump for laughs alone.

does Apple make awesome UI's or does everyone else just suck?
While this things UI might not be a pretty as my ipod touch's, from the video it *looks* better and beats my Touch's UI in terms of functionality hands downs. But that's is just my opinion other people might see it differently**.
*meaning that it has more functions built in, better transitions, less cluttered, etc.
** BTW I really don't give a rats a** bout other peoples opinion, just like they don't care about mine. I'll buy what i want to buy based on my likings on someones else's
that was not supposed to be a reply engadget : /
Thats the thing, designing a capable and usable UI is extremely difficult. Apple pour time effort and money into it and do it better than anyone else.
Well it seems, from the MP4Nation forums, that they are customizing this player for their own product line, looks like this thing can have its interface customized and some people are already trying to make their own style interface

pretty nice that you can load different interfaces
None of the touch screen pmp have giving me any reason to switch
from my meizu m6 8 gig as of yet
touch screens right now just seam gimmicky to me no really
added function benefit in my opinion
Well, if all you're doing is playing music there's no reason to have them. When you start getting web browsers and custom apps and all that, they become nice.
Oh man, the 'photos' app looks terrible, almost unusable.
The video playback looked very smooth, the device itself (especially with the brushed aluminium rear) looked very nice and the screen with its incredible viewing angle also looked amazing.
But my goodness did that UI suck ass.
Hm– a T50 ? I have one of those. Mine just has an Apple on the back. (!!!)
Am I the only person thinking that this may actually be just a iPod Touch with a modded home screen?
The whole Video/Audio UI, the Track listings etc.. just looks too much like the iPod as I know it
I actually thought it looked like a kind of nice player for how cheap those things usually sell online. Would be good to buy high schoolers instead of a $400 touch.
Why is it that reviews of bad products need to mention the most meaningless aspects, like the "rockchip RK2706" over and over again like a dodgy car salesman?
The RK2706 is a good selling point in the MP4 market, as it's a new breed of video decoder which is able to play high resolution videos without lag or the requirements for conversion like previous generations of chips. You can basically go straight from bittorrent to your player without needing to go through hours of video recompiling.
The chip may not mean much to you, but this comment is like someone saying "Why do they keep repeating meaningless things like Geforce 9800GTX" in a PC review
yes, i suppose it would be like that
--- which would be just as meaningless to me,
and certainly a good graphics card would not make a poor computer any better.
The only problem with Microsoft, OSS Community and those Companies out there is that they just have no taste. They have absolutely no taste. And I don't mean that in a small way, I mean that in a big way, in the sense that they don't think of original ideas, and they don't bring much culture into their products.
Only the most arrogant, whacked out of Apple user would even think to take such tripe seriously.
Seriously that is seriously the most foolish reply I've ever read. God, I swear Apple has created an army of ignorant people that think they truly understand style and taste, when they are only just so in love with one brand's style aesthetic, that they are too dense to realize that style comes in all sorts of forms, and is not merely defined as Apple is good, everyone else is baaaaad.
@fred
I agree, some people do have that problem (Me included sometimes), but have some justification next time. You are boring the Engadget readers!
Beautiful quote from Steve Jobs!
They're not bad, they aren't able to give their Product a FACE, How
can you identify you're product if it has no typical Character?
You're also ARROGANT to judge all Apple-Users as you did.
I like watching this person review products... good voice... and he always says "GB's of memory"
I'm a phone noob. Will these phones use the google Android?
Yes. No.
If a better UI can't be made, obviously people are going to copy what worked best. This certainly seems to be the case (so far) with the touch-screens and the iPhone's UI. So I think it's a bit unfair to say people are ripping off Apple off, when really there is no alternative aside from a shitty user experience. It's like the steering wheel: you don't see everyone saying that every car ripped off sailing ships way back when, do you?
I think these sorts of UIs are to become the norm for mobile touch-screen devices. People should just crown whoever came up with the design first (is it Apple? or someone else?), let everyone else do the same thing and/or improve upon it, and STFU.
"Scrolling is very nice on this" lag, lag, gone to far, come on work you bastard touch screen!! "You see, very sensitive.
Actually, it's just like a P2 and an iTouch combined. I could've sworn it was a P2 when I saw the LED blink red, and the UI right after the welcome.
