WiBrain B1 UMPC gets SSD option
Look out! The world's ugliest UMPCs are all getting the SSD treatment, or so it seems. Just five days after Raon Digital added a 32GB solid state drive option for its Everun S32S Dic, WiBrain has introduced a SSD-equipped B1. Starting today, users can grab one of these devices with an 8GB, 16GB or 32GB SSD packed within, each of which will set you back ?399,000 ($383), ?549,000 ($528) and ?599,000 ($576), respectively.

It may be ugly, but i like the fact that it has an actual touchpad. if you can't have a touchscreen, that's the next best thing.
bootareen @ May 19th 2008 9:54PM
yeah the touchpad is a nice touch
Ace b @ May 19th 2008 11:41PM
@bootareen
Was that meant to be a pun?
blizz419 @ May 20th 2008 8:08AM
it not only has a touch pad it actually has a touch screen as well, and that web cam does push down obviously so its not permanently protruding, may not be the prettiest thing but function over form, it runs xp, built in wireless and bluetooth, touchscreen touchpad, 1.2 GHZ cpu 512MB RAM, webcam, qwerty keyboard (although split), 1024x600 resolution. i want one of these pretty damn cool even if not pretty looking.

texas instruments makes UMPC's?
blizz419 @ May 20th 2008 10:37AM
apperently they offer this with 1GB of RAM as well
Thomas Arnold @ May 19th 2008 9:19PM
More like PSP meets TI-83...
ddub @ May 19th 2008 11:42PM
First thing I thought of when I saw it was TI-92.
Kyle @ May 19th 2008 9:19PM
Actually, I sort of like it. It's obviously not as sleek as many of the more stylish UMPCs but still. I might actually buy one. And Carl is right, the touchpad is pretty cool on such a small device.
Stetson @ May 19th 2008 9:20PM
That looks like the enormous 80's boombox (with built-in 5" black and white tube TV) of UMPCs.
David @ May 19th 2008 9:31PM
and it is rather cheap i guess
Ace b @ May 19th 2008 9:37PM
if anything you could gut it and use the ssd for other uses.
WITCC Student @ May 19th 2008 9:33PM
Very retro.
Faulken S Wulf @ May 19th 2008 9:34PM
That's the ugliest thing ever.
pakkman781 @ May 19th 2008 9:52PM
The 80's called, they want their design back. It looks decent, especially having a trackpad, but I wouldn't be able to leave the house with it or face shame in the eyes of my peers...
Personally, I'll stick with the Eee and it's clones.
pakkman781 @ May 19th 2008 9:53PM
I mean, "looks decent spec wise" not as in actual "looks"
sinjinn @ May 19th 2008 10:29PM
your comment is irritating. its overly exaggerated. its not a good comment.
pakkman781 @ May 19th 2008 10:49PM
@sinjinn: Your input is appreciated, and shall definately have some affect on my future comments. /sarcasm
john @ May 19th 2008 10:13PM
Are the SSD options available on the linux version?
Pc_Madness @ May 19th 2008 11:13PM
Aww come on, the Raon Digital isn't ugly. :(
fischju @ May 19th 2008 11:25PM
Does the webcam come off...?
SnowB @ May 20th 2008 1:02AM
Yes, but not by design!
blizz419 @ May 20th 2008 8:15AM
it pushes down into the device it is not permantly protruding
Steve Paine @ May 20th 2008 3:48AM
Yes its ugly. Practical though. One of the easiest-to-use UMPCs that exists.
Function over Form was never pretty!

It looks like a PSP without the corners rounded off.. Shiny screen too.
EricR @ May 20th 2008 11:12AM
Looks like an old HP calculator to me -- in my mind just retro enough to be interesting...
